I really like this. Great colors for you. The sweater is sufficiently fluid so no bunching - like in my WIW. I like the peek of the blouse in the front as well as the back (not sure if that is required to look "right" - I'm still learning). If it was my outfit, I would wear a long necklace. I have wide shoulders so I tend to like the V a necklace can give. Just some food for thought.

Thank you unfrumped. I do actually have some pretty cool patterned tights that break up the expanse of black, when I wear black skirts and boots. I guess I was thinking with this particular outfit, I'd keep the skirt plain because the sweater has a bit of bling and a skirt with a pattern would be too much. But in general, yes, I agree with what you said.

And thank you Shannon and Angie

Stellar. Not seasonally confused at all. If you were wearing a coat with sandals - that's seasonally confused to my eye.

Lovely sweater shirt combo. Do you like skirt fabrics that are not quite black--maybe some tweeds or pinstripes, grays or off-black? Even though a cool-weather uniform for me includes black tights and footwear, I have also liked dark gray tights and gray or patterned skirt to look less stark. I also look for tweeds or small patterns that mix black and another color--white, gray, taupe even burgundy--so I can wear the beloved black tights but have more visual interest.

And I know what you mean about wardrobe holes--once I found a few fluid sweaters Iiked over pencil skirts, I wanted more--enough to trade off, and to go with different colors, or to be different weights for seasonal temps. I'm happy with that as one of my go-to silhouettes. So comfortable.

Thanks Carole. I like the idea of tall boots and tights.... just have to make sure I don't get too bottom black heavy. That's going to be tricky going forward.

I like it and you look great! That's a beautiful sweater with your coloring and I love the hem peeking out! Cool booties, too. I Can see this with tall boots and tights when the weather gets colder. Good job! I've been reluctant to layer because of super broad shoulders and feeling all bound up, but I have a new tunic I need to try this with and see if it feels better. Thanks for the inspiration.

Inspired by a couple of Angie's recent posts (pullover with a pencil skirt, layering), I decided I was bound and determined to make this layering thing work. Other people on the forum helped push me, as I realized I wasn't the only one who struggled with this, and also helped me realize that proportion was where most of my trouble lies.

This white button down tunic/shirt has been a closet orphan. I got it a couple of years ago, and was so excited to find one that FIT! But I struggled with it because it has slightly strange hem detailing, and I couldn't really make it work. I often thought I should just cut it off, but never got to it.

So enter the layering concept, and my broad shoulders, which require more length in my tops so that I don't look square. Out comes the tunic.

And here is the result. I have to say, I felt great. I hope it looks good too :). But please, I'd love to hear anything you have to say from "what were you thinking" to tweaks for improvement.

Oh, and bare legs!!!! Weird weather we're having here ... I hope it doesn't look seasonally confused.

I also realize I need more sweaters like this. I love the proportion of it on me, ie long enough, it has a bit of weight yet is still fluid. So - a hole identified!
