It might be a little busier than what I usually choose, but I feel that it still works because 1) the color in the shirt matches the jacket so well, and 2) the diagonal plays on the asymmetry of the jacket closure. I tend to wear this jacket more often with simple, solid color knit tops because it is kind of busy already with the collar and the zippers and all. Kept me plenty warm (even had to unzip for a while) for an outdoor celebration and ~4 miles of walking, with wind! </p> <p>Chris, I confess that my footwear collection has developed over years of trial and error. Some were thoughtful purchases and some more spontaneous. I'm trying to be smarter about the spontaneous purchases -- keep the crazy things like floral boots within a smaller price range so they won't be a big expense if the trend passes or the quality fails me or I tire of them. These moto boots were on sale but fit a distinct need for something rugged, warm and walkable, with a bit of tough style. I get a ton of wear out of them. If I really think through the potential for outfits with my shoes, I usually get it right...as long as the comfort holds up! </p> <p>As for the mirror selfies, thanks for the kind words, but I also have to confess I think it's mostly luck. I have that inexpensive mirror from Bed Bath &amp; Beyond hung on the back of our bedroom door. I open the door to the bathroom to let in light from the side, and I try to angle the door so that the bright light from the windows behind me doesn't throw off the exposure in the photos. So much is really about the light! Good, even light (bright shade, for example) will usually result in better photos than high contrast with dark shadows and bright highlights. </p> <p>This mirror might be kind to me, in all honesty -- the high camera angle when I hold the phone up seems to make me look thinner on the bottom half than I really am (an illusion I admit I like). However, that high angle also can make my legs look shorter than they are, so I tend to put one leg forward and maybe tilt my body ever so slightly backward to negate that effect. I do try to get an angle that is true to what I think I look like, but in my better moments.
