You look great in that outfit. I have a boatneck top from them that I absolutely love and will probably have to retire it soon.

I also had a no-iron Chico's dress shirt in Oxford blue. It was gorgeous! Very supple. They do some things well.

You look fab! I love the juxtaposition of the crisp button down with the more casual olive pants, and that $100 belt was worth the investment!

I gave Chico’s a whirl ‘back in the day’ when I found myself pinning lewks that ended up being from their catalogue/look books! The clothing items I tried didn’t work for me (seemed designed for petites) but they did some inspirational merchandising.

There’s a Canadian store called Northern Relections that gets a rap similar to Chicos et al. however there is some good value to be found in their merchandise.

I regularly shop a place called Marks Work Warehouse. Yes! Their bread and butter is steel toed boots, coveralls and scrubs, however they carry traditional styles from Levi’s, Carhart, Converse, Sorel, Timberlnd, Columbia, Helly Hanson, Jockey, Dickies, etc. They are a great place to source classic styles of leather boots and shoes (shout out for their Quad Comfort line) and in random years there is a house brand collaboration with a (usually) Canadian designer (Alfred Sung, Nrad Goreski) that results in some interesting things. You can find a decent amount of natural fibre garments, and they are big on BOGO offers.

MsMary, first of all, I am 93.2% certain it was you who coined the term “Chicostastic” on these very forums a decade or more ago (or was it LisaP?) and I snort-laughed when I read it.

But I have a small collection of vintage Chico’s belts that I have thrifted, and they have been perfect finishing touches for rockband costumes, so I will never discount Chicos as a possible contender for “cool”.

Second… Isabel Marant has a similar sort of shirt in her Fall 2025 collection.

KILLER shirt, and even better on you in person! It couldn't be more perfect on you, Mary! You look chic and polished.

That belt is wonderfully memorable :)

And YES, Lisa and Mary. Leave no retail stone unturned! There is going to be just the right item from a brand you don't consider "your brand", over and over again in your style life. I have items from Talbots, AllSaints and Everlane that I LOVE! And they are not usually my go-to brands. To cat2's point.

How fun that the investment belt is still a workhorse all these years later. I really like the "old lady" Talbots jacket too. Every once in a while I find a real gem at Talbots, not one of my go to stores, but as Angie has said, leave no retail store unturned because you just never know!

That is hilarious! Thanks for fessing up.
I’m carrying my one and only Dooney & Bourke bag in eggplant and walnut brown and wearing eggplant suede Ann Taylor loafers. Neither is my first stop for accessories but the combination is making me really happy.

Of course you can wear "old lady" brands head to toe and not look old lady at all, you look so fresh and chic! Great dressy casual look and you amped it up with the studded belt and olive sunnies to match the olive pants. You are a fashion wizard!

Love that belt! As to the "old lady" stores -- you should have seen my reaction to finding things I liked by going to Lane Bryant way back when I first saw Angie's recommendation to leave no stone unturned. I ended up with great bras as well as some cute outfits, but I'm less pleased with them lately.

I had to laugh because I was badmouthing Chico's and J Jill on a thread the other day, but this no-iron striped shirt is one of my absolute favorites and a true blue wardrobe workhorse! It comes out of the dryer 100% ready to wear, every single time! I teamed it with Z Supply pants and Talbots (another "older lady" brand -- as I always say, it's weird being the same age as the old people!) jacket. We had a nice breakfast out with our out-of-town friends this morning before they went to the airport -- the weather is so nice we ate outside! Oh, and fun fact -- this distressed studded belt is one of my first YLF-inspired acquisitions, from 15 years ago! It cost something like $100 and at the time I was shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you! at the very idea of spending that much on a belt. But I've worn it AT LEAST once a week ever since and the cost per wear at this point must be pennies!

Anyway, thanks for looking and remember, leave no retail stone unturned!
