Tanya, of course, the best way to shorten the torso here is to showcase the waistline with a full tuck, semi tuck or cropped top.

I know that what I said with the longer layers here is counterintuitive - but somehow the shorter layers are playing tricks on my eyes too.

Angie, I can see that - the photo angle /mirror are exaggerating the effect but it is definitely there. Should I try a longer top then to cover the rise? I feel that would shorten the leg line, but I am clearly not getting things right here.

Tanya, look at the length of your rise despite the layered tops - you can still see most of the zipper. To my eye, the layers accentuate the torso length. Perhaps it's the photo making things look this way - or the way the mirror is slanted away from the wall?

Thank you very much everyone!

Angie, thanks for chiming in with your painful arms. I will attempt to fix the jean fit one or the other way.
I am curious about the proportions elongating the torso part. I was hoping that layering a cropped sweater over shirt with all the horizontal lines would shorten it, not lengthen it ( shows how little I know after all these years). What kind of top would shorten the torso visually (or at least not lengthen it)? The jeans are pretty high waisted. Would tucking a fitted turtleenck into the jeans or semi-tucking slightly looser top be better, proportions-wise?

Great to see you post again, Tanya.

I'm sorry the jeans stretched out. Throw them in the dryer and see what happens. The fit should be sleeker on the thighs and knees.

Fabulous outfit. These proportions do lengthen your already very long torso - but to my eye the result is JFE.

Hope you're feeling better, and that you got your greencard stuff off to the lawyer. Much love to you.

This is a fabulous outfit! Love the proportions here---the cropped sweater is a fantastic addition! I agree with you - the jeans should be altered to fit snugly on the thighs.

I agree with having the jeans narrowed. They look more like bfs at the moment. I think the flare would be more fun and dramatic with a tighter leg. Otherwise the outfit proportions look good! Good to see you again here.

Tanya, so great to see you post! I think this is a really great outfit -- the soft neutrals are lovely on you -- and your thighs do not look huge to me. But I understand that feeling -- I can easily succumb to it also if the fit of jeans seems off somehow or sometimes just because of the wash and the proportions of the outfit as a whole.

No huge problem but I agree it looks like they should be more fitted, not tight but to create more contrast with flare at the bottom, I think you would look fab in that; it's a trend that suits your shape and height so you may as well get a more intentional " cropped flare" look.

Here is an outfit post from me, I do not think I have done one since May.
It is cool and rainy here, and I have a super busy and stressful day with lots of running around, so I wanted something casual and comfy.
I decided to break out my Sperry boots from NAS, pair them with light wash cropped flares and shorter and lighter tops for (hopefully) elongating column of color effect.
These are new proportions for me so I would appreciate the input on whether it works. I am also not too happy with the jeans - they stretched out a lot, particularly around the thigh area and fit more like BFs making my thighs look huge. I am contemplating throwing them in the dryer on high to try and shrink them after washing - I normally never put premium jeans in the dryer. If that doesn't work, do you think I should take them to the tailor to have the upper leg area taken in? I plan to wear them a lot and I know that the thigh fit will keep bugging me.
