@windchime: funny how the fashion wind blows! Maybe we should try shopping for another item next time around only to get another item we've been looking for? Ok ok I know it doesn't work that way, but that amazing you found what you wanted/needed!

I really shouldn't feel bad about my most recent purchases. Some of the items are already getting some wear!

Bummer that your bag slips off the topper because it's gorgeous! (Hmm...maybe you could carry a clutch?) I love the entire outfit.
The winds of fashion blew me to buying a pair of black sandals yesterday although I was shopping for a white blouse. Since all your items were on your list, as were my new black sandals, and we didn't go into debt, let's enjoy our new stuff and not feel guilty!

@Joy: I'm not yet sure about the fucshia. It does look great with cobalt (upcoming WIW will illustrate that), but when I mixed and matched fucshia and cobalt yesterday, some items didn't quite look right. I guess I'm an idealist, hoping that all items can go together. I'm really curious what the wardrobe minimalistas and capsulistas say to that. Glad this inspires you though! To me, this is a creative challenge and for once, I'm really excited to see how this turns out!

@rabbit: thank you!!!! A-line tunics are definitely HEWI's for me! This sounds boring but I doing mind having a whole bunch of them in different fabrications and styles. I am eyeing two beautiful silk multi-layers silk tunics at Club Monaco right now. This cut has been commonplace lately for some reason!!!

@Gigi: oops! I wore the shorts and cobalt top already! But I intend on keeping those, though. I'm taking Claire's advice on my fuschia items. I'm stowing away the tunic (since that's a major HEWI for me) but I can live without the shorts.

Thanks for all the feedback, ladies!

I like Claire's advice: Keep the tags on the stuff before you wear it, and wait a week or so before committing. You might find that you need only two pairs of shorts instead of three, etc. But when you've been looking this long for certain items and finally find ones that fit the bill, it is sensible to buy them even though you hadn't planned on it! So often our HEWIs come to us unexpectedly.

Also, with regard to Project 333, I wouldn't force yourself to stick to those exact numbers. I think it can be a good ballpark, but not everyone's life fits well into 33 pieces. So try not to be too hard on yourself! :^)

You have gotten great advice. Please post more about your summer 333. So inspiring. Why not keep a fuchsia piece in rotation? Fuchsia looks great with cobalt.

Thanks ladies!

@carter you will NOT believe this but they are CROCS. I've had these crocs for about 5 years now and I love them. They're super comfy! Look into the Crocs Patricia -that's what they are. They have a 1.5 inch wedge. It's a very popular style so they still sell them! I'm due to buy replacements for these soon.

@rabbit: I thought about returning my fucshia items, actually. Mainly because I have a really nice colour scheme going (though monochromatic). I still have tags on all of the though I'll likely wear the blue tunic and white shorts today (a different take on long over lean). So I'll see how I feel. I like the idea of a single colour scheme and adding accenting colours in accessories instead.

Long tunics are from Winners/Marshalls. They are Cable and Gauge, which to me is a reliable brand because it almost always fits me (plus, nice comfy fabric too).

What is HEWI? I've seen that term around but never knew what it means!

@clearlyclaire: YES! I'm doing an "inactive" or not so full version of Project333. I love accessories and am still on a lookout for shoes so I excluded them from the exercise. I focused on clothing items. I have a small closet, a busy life and severe ADD (haha, ok not really), which is why I do this.

Regarding the shorts: I worked out a modified "long over lean" silhouette. I tend to like shorter shorts (you got legs, you flaunt it! I don't have a waistline or nice torso to show, lol!) and I wear them with loose tops or tunics. Although because a muffin top is absent, I can finally wear my fitted Cable and Gauge shirts too!

I noticed you've been minimizing your wardrobe too and I notice you also have a common colour scheme (blue!). Do you stick to this, or do you incorporate other colours as well? I'm debating on stowing away all my pink items and maybe returning the fucshia BR shorts. I want almost every piece to go with everything I own (am I too unrealistic?)

@Celia: yup... Shoes are just so hard for me to find. Since my foot diagnosis I've made some expensive mistake purchases. I'm really lucky that my condition is not bad, but I love walking and running so I do my best to take preventative measures now. Toppers actually used to be difficult for me too... Until the tunic/slouchy trend!

I totally agree with rabbit (I love her words 'bow to the winds of shopping fortune') this weekend I've bought 2 dresses, several tops and 2 pairs of cropped trousers, I've just ordered duplicates of the trousers and may go back for duplicate dresses. Sometimes I'll shop and come away with absolutely nothing for months then the shopping gods look on me favourably and I can get loads. I go with the flow nowadays and don't worry if I come away with nothing, loads or anything in between, it generally balances itself out over the year x

Happens to me all the time, go in to buy shoes, come out with loads of tops and toppers.
Sounds like you did a good job getting out of your previous comfort zone, though.
Regarding the outfit, I do understand that the topper might not be very practical with bags but it does look very good with the outfit.

It sounds like you're doing project 3/33? I went back and read several of your other posts. The items you bought yesterday sound terrific, and like they fit into your challenge, but if you're feeling guilty or ashamed why not leave the tags on them for a week or two until your head clears a bit and you can see your wardrobe more objectively. It's great that you found shorts that fit, flatter and are comfortable! That might be worth re-thinking any previous "rules" that you had for yourself. I have to do this periodically too. Never say never!

I like your shopping outfit, but what a bummer that it wasn't well behaved, lol! Maybe the neckline of your top has stretched out a bit or you've lost some weight, even if it seemed perfect in a previous season. I think you look fantastic in shift dresses as well as long over lean. Hope you post some shorts photos soon, too!

Sometimes you just have to bow to the winds of shopping fortune and bring stuff home :). But of course, then you need to really try everything on, make sure you don't have too much of something (duplicates in different colors sometimes get me this way -- I have better luck with two, three never get worn as much).

Where did you get the long tunics? Now that is a HEWI that I keep trying to find in my price range.

Your shopping outfit is beautiful, but I know what you mean, put a purse on one of those shoulders and everything kind of slides off to the side -- that happens to me when I wear big scarves, especially if the fabric is silky.

I'm not sure whether to be proud of myself or feel awful. Yesterday, I went shopping with the intent of purchasing comfortable lower heeled (1.5 " max heel height) footwear that can take me from dressy to casual. Instead, I came home with 11 items of clothing. I did not get in debt for this, thankfully (I've been managing my finances well) but it so happened that so many deals were happening yesterday and they were pieces on my shopping list!

For instance, Banana Republic had a 40% off sale on shorts. I've given up on shorts about almost a decade ago because of muffin top and crotch fit issues. I've been entertaining the idea of wearing them for years but nothing fits at all: until I purchased the banana republic shorts! I'm amazed at the absence of the muffin top and I can SIT in them! The crotch area didn't look terrible either. Toronto summers are unbearable sometimes so shorts in my weekend wardrobe would be a welcomed change! I purchase black, white and fuchsia.

Another item I've been looking for are plain, slightly a-line tunics that hit upper mid thigh. This makes this length flattering on Jeggings, and upon further discovery, my shorts and tube skirts as well! Aside from the see-through fabric (easily alleviated with a workout wear black racer back tank), it was everything I've been looking for in a tunic (I really wonder why many plain long tunics have a breast pocket on them. Seriously WHO USES THAT and why is that even there???). I got the tunics in black, cobalt and fuchsia. They were under $20 each.

And then there were the tube skirts. The a Vince Camuto tube skirts at The Bay were NOT on sale, but I found some lovely Catherine by Catherine Malandrino tube skirts with side ruching and can be worn with the ruching at the front or the sides. They were only $30 so I grabbed a basic black one and one with a really edgy cobalt print.

Other purchases were a $13 hi-Lo summer sweater in white (looks amazing with both skirts), a really RATE tweed moto vest topper and finally a shift dress which I will return (tried it on 2weeks ago) because sitting down isn't delightful because the dress feels tighter.

Needless to say, I got all 33 items in my closet. Separate post for that. Aaaaand.... I have more separates than I have frocks now, thanks to the Catherine Malandrino skirts and weekend shorts. I guess that means I no longer deserve the title!

Sorry to detour into my shopping exploits. Here's how I feel about the outfit: it was irritating! Yes I love the print, drape and flowy-ness of the look and I sure felt comfortable for the mosh part! The major drawback is carrying my purse because the topper pulls in an uncomfortable way, and for some reason the top just stretches out and shows more cleavage than what us like. Sadly, these didn't make the cut in my 33 items because they just didn't fit my functional requirements. The top got so much wear in the past though, but the topper? I now know why I've only worn it 3 times in the 3 years I've had it. I held on to it because it was gorgeous, but lesson learned? Tops draped like these are far from practical.

Topper: purchased in Mendocino
Top: purchased at Winners
Jeggings: American Eagle Outfitters
