Interesting discussion about camera angles. This explains a lot! My husband and son both take photos of me, and are within an inch or two of height. I think my husband must angle the camera differently, though, because my son's photos are usually the more flattering of the two

I love all your outfits! My daughter has a very similar plaid coat and I always think of you when I see her wearing it!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate all the feedback Also glad some of you are finding the camera information useful, I find it all pretty fascinating and am more than happy to share.

Bookarella: We were walking inside-to-outside all day, but mostly I just sat on the couch. So the heels weren't so bad ;)

Morethanbeige - I'm a firm believer that even if your shoes are mostly covered by pants (like mine usually are), they should still be cute! Besides, when you're sitting they'll usually be seen.

Jonesy - I like that general height for myself as well in terms of getting the most "accurate" representation of myself for documentation/analysis of outfits. Though at my short height, while I find the low angle super awesome for making me look leggier than I am for photos, I'm pretty sure most people see me in that higher angle view (being much taller than me). Interesting to keep in mind, but I usually just ignore it

Great outfits! I love all three! It's so interesting about the camera angle thing. I prefer having my pic taken with the camera positioned in between belly button and sternum height, because that looks the most natural to my eye...Interesting what we prefer, based in part on our thoughts about our own bodies.

Thanks very much everyone! I will certainly try to wear my hair down more for you all :)

Coco, that's correct: Whatever is closest to the camera will appear the largest. Allow me to nerd out a moment Think of the camera lens as if it were a big vertical plane; whatever direction you tilt it, your image gets angled and therefore distorted in kind. So in #1, legs are closest and coupled with the sharp camera angle appear elongated (great for us shorties, and generally flattering to all; when you see photographers shooting models, they often use this angle). In #3, hips are closest but since they're in the middle of me AND the camera isn't angled at all, proportions are very even (at least on me). In #2, shoulders are closest and since legs are furthest away they appear shorter; the camera is straight but this effect would be much more pronounced if it were tilted downwards.

My favorites are 1 and 3. I love grey and red together and the black striped top is so on trend and flattering.

I'm still not sure I get the whole camera perspective difference. But I have noticed that pictures taken from my hip/low waist level widen my thighs and hips a little. Would you agree with that observation?

Rae, have him kneel and tilt the camera up to you to take the photos (or just one knee down, if he wants to look cooler ); that's usually how my husband does mine, like in #1 there. I have 2 pairs of colored pants now and I'm officially sold!

Thanks ladies!

Ornella - No fear of pairing a pendant and a belt here! I'm enjoying the semi-tuck as more of a little nod to the 70s versus the full tuck homage.

Morethanbeige - Thanks! I (nearly) always dress for a long leg line as you posted about, but generally treat shoes as a full-on accessory. So, color variety certainly allowed and desired :)

Liss - These were my first pair of colored pants and I must say it's much more fun than denim all the time! I highly recommend you try a pair if you haven't (since I've seen that you like color!), they work just like a colored skirt would.

Glad you guys like #3, I was so iffy about it after taking photos I almost changed!

Una - Added some shoe detail for you (they were from Kohl's). I think Teri has the same pair I love wearing my hair down, but the curls only last the first day after which it does a really half-assed wave that just never does what it should. I wash my hair every 3-4 days, so I really need get a proper curling iron or some curling product! Still working on becoming more hair savvy.

AJ - Thanks! I got the pendant from Forever 21 and was pleasantly surprised that it's an actual working watch

I do like that plaid jacket as well!

Luv the 70's vibe of #3 as well as the color combo. That watch pendant is fab!

I love the third outfit! What are the shoes in the first picture? You need to wear your hair down more often - it's very flattering (although I never did when I had long hair!)...

Weekend outfits plus Monday's (pre-snow).

Worn out to breakfast Saturday with hubby and then to get car tabs. Fun story: When we walked into the DOL, the lady who helped us looked startled; after a moment she commented that she loved my coat and had worn one just like it in 1949. It made my day! Then in the evening we went out with a bunch of friends and I stayed up too late. Getting too old for that ;)

Wasn't planning on getting dressed Sunday, but some of our friends wanted to come hang out and help my husband brew his first batch of beer. So I threw this on for essentially a day off at home.

Worn to work Monday. I had this outfit in my head to try, but the sweater didn't play as well as I'd expected; it's too short and doesn't drape well. But I like the color palette a lot!

Comments, critiques, thoughts and questions welcome.

EDITED TO NOTE: For those interested in how camera height changes your proportions in photos: #1 was taken around knee height, #3 between hip/waist height, and #2 almost shoulder height. I'm wearing 3.5"-4" heels in all three of these, and the jeans in #1/2 are the same. More on this below.
