Got my FitBit Charge HR yesterday and so far I really love it. I have done a comparison with my Polar F7 HR monitor, my oximeter, and my pedometer and so far I do not see any discrepancies. I am using their online dashboard to help me monitor my food and exercise and to keep me motivated. Hopefully, this will help me lose the pounds I need to lose and keep me fit!

Tonight, temps are supposed to drop here and we will have freezing temps for the next 5 days. Tomorrow morning supposed to be only 5 degrees. Hard to walk outside when it is so cold. Will have to limit myself to the treadmill and maybe running up and down the stairs a few hundred times.

Shedev - it was only a one day of feeling tired. I'm okay now.
I decided to go ahead with the cutting out sugar (and alcohol) and dairy for a month. (though to be precise, I am still having some cottage cheese until I use the open container up!) I really don't know if I have any problems with dairy - I don't think so, but it is a HUGE part of my calorific input (I calculated about 250 cals a day just from cups of tea) so it should make some weight difference.
As has happened when I have tried this before I got very hungry yesterday, and also headachy (I think) because I was drinking tea at a much weaker strength than when I have milk in it.

Gradfashionista, that has happened to me before. I might just get used to this though. I think even if I do return to dairy, I won't return to sugar. Eating gluten is never going to be an option.

Amiable, great job so far, sometimes my body does take a time out after a little weight loss.

The scale isn't really moving much for me the past couple of weeks. But I've worked out a half hour every day, and started counting calories after I discovered that I wasn't eating enough. I've lost nearly half of what I hoped to lose this year, so I'm pleased with my progress even though it's rather slow right now.

You might be able to go back to dairy after you've been off of it. I don't know your history with wheat, but if you had both dairy and wheat issues concurrently, your dairy issues may been significantly worsened by the wheat [due to intestinal permeability caused by WGA].

Anne, Sorry you are feeling poorly .I'm on a bit of a reset myself. I've been off sugar and dairy for a little over a month. I was having different reactions to both of them, but the root cause is my intestinal damage from Celiacs. I do miss cheese. I don't miss sugar all that much. I think paleo is a good plan for people with Celiacs. I don't have a really structured diet, except that I eat the 4 palm sized servings that PN recommends. I do skip some of the carbs though.

Louise, great job.

DianeG, bummer, I get a lot of stop and starts too. So frustrating.

Style fan, it's great that you are settling in.

gradfashionista, it sounds like you are on track to make your goal.

Ms Maven, glad you are seeing progress on your legs. I do a lot of squats, and I don't know about my knee area, but I did take a couple inches off my hips. Until I measured for the butt dress, I really only had the sense that I looked a little less hippy.

Kiwigal, strong, fit and healthy is the way to go. I am feeling better.

Hope the nagging injuries and exhaustion pass.

Last week cut calories by 100-200 per day and at last saw a couple of pounds drop. Exercises have gone well, but haven't been able to get the 10,000 steps, unless I add a couple of days together.

One day I was trying on some new shoes and looking in the mirror as I pulled my skirt up above my knees to see how they would look with a shorter, summer skirt. Well, to my surprise I saw a change in that area just above the knees that gets saggy on older women. It seems like the flesh and skin hang down and I thought there was nothing to be done--it isn't a weight problem.

So, I'm happy to report that after 18-months of doing half squats and ball marching all the rest, that above the knee area is thinner, more muscular, and looks younger. Now if only the same exercises worked to make varicose veins go away.

When it warms up again (chilly, windy and rainy today) I'm going to check and see how the upper arm sag is doing. I've mentioned this before, but it is much easier now to unload the groceries from the trunk, including 30 pound boxes of kitty litter.

I'm going to keep at what I've been doing for next week.

Disappointing food/scale/clothing fit week, but did three lifting days, and one conditioning day, so exercise is on track. The workouts went well, though I am only adding 1lb at a time in two of my lifts. Mini-goal is to get my deadlift work set up to 250 by the end of the month; did 220 on Friday.

3 runs, 1 swim, 1 yoga. We have had a week of snow so one night the swim workout got shelved and I spent an hour shovelling the driveway. Roads were a bit slick yesterday so I bailed on the gym (no spin).

Was also feeling the effects of a cheese fest Friday night and feeling the effects of too much salt...and wine.

DH and I are settled in our rental apartment in Florida. I can now focus on my daily Yoga practice and walking 10,000 steps a day. I did have a very bad cold or flu but I am recovering. Not like me to get sick.

I have been keeping up with the daily Yoga practice but the waling is about 5,000 steps because my dog hates the ocean. This happened last year. We walk other places and she is okay. The ocean scares her. She is a Nordic dog. Poor thing.

Well, I managed a workout of sorts on Monday, then one on Wednesday which seemed to feel really difficult...I found out why, as I came down with another cold on Thursday morning. No workouts now perhaps till Tuesday as the muscular problem around my back and ribs on the left has not subsided yet either. It's frustrating as I felt I was making good progress.

I'm still enjoying the gym and have been twice this week and hoping to go again tonight. I managed to run for a 1 1/2 minutes (and fast walk for 20) on Friday night, doesn't sound much but with my dysfunctional breathing and dodgy knee I'm very pleased with myself and it's up from the minute I managed last week. I also noticed I could squat lower at Zumba on Monday so the gym is definitely having an affect. Still walking to work and greyhound walking yesterday. Am also noticing I'm not eating as much rubbish in the evenings yay x

Well done - you are shedding weight every week Shedev

I wrote this on last weeks but only yesterday so I'll copy and paste

"I went back to running this last week, or at least jogging with
some walking in it! i also made it to half a pump class and walked the
extra to turn one of my walks to the bus from a 7 min to a 20 minute
one most weekdays. Last Sat I went to an hour long spin class that I
absolutely love and was hoping to go again today....

And then I got hit with a feeling I haven't had much since 2013, when
I started working full time for the first time in ages, had moved towns
and about every 4 Saturdays spent the morning lying on the couch. So
spin class wasn't happening. I dropped DD at her gym class and then came
back and lay on the couch (and read 1 1/2 books!). I regularly have a
little nap and lie down on Sat afternoon but sat morning is different.
In 2013 I was diagnosed with anemia and through that celiac disease so I
was a bit worried to be having a repeat - hopefully it is just me
adjusting to increasing my exercise and going back to work after a long
holiday"

I am feeling better today and managed about 35 mins of jog/walking while the girls rode their bikes. It is going to be fearfully hot today and was already at that point.

Am thinking about doing some dietary reset. I have been looking into the Whole30, which a couple of friends have done. It is pretty hard core Paleo, which I am simultaneously attracted to and skeptical about. I am thinking of doing a sort of modified version with cutting out sugar and dairy for a month. I am very attached to dairy so it'd be quite a challenge - but maybe what I need to jumpstart some weight loss.

Hi all. I got stuck at work a couple times so my workouts suffered. Fitness aside, I sometimes forget how exercise keeps me sane. I'm really feeling out of sorts and could use the endorphin rush. My food was good, lost a couple. How was your week?
