I prefer the green outfit but I have a serious sugar eye for blue green combinations. And that’s such a great green too. Hard to find! But you look wonderful in the red also. Dress for your mood, I say!

Both look great. I'm partial to the green because it is just a smidge softer. I like red but I really like green with your hair color. So pretty.

The green sweater fits you a bit better than the red one. Also, the red sweater, at least on my computer, seems to be a warmer red, which doesn't work as well with the cooler toned palette that looks so wonderful on you. Love the slim straight jeans, belt, and shoes too.

Thanks everyone! I have actually relegated the red sweater to the holding zone ... I will try stretching it out but if that doesn't work, it's time to pass it on. I am so bad with fit and used to get things too big; now I think I've overcompensated the other way ha!

I only need one "statement" (i.e. bright) sweater, so the green one will fill that role nicely as I really love the colour ... and I can always keep an eye out for another red/wine/berry/magenta one in a better fit.

Both look good to me, but I prefer the green because the arm fit looks better. The red seems tight at the shoulder area, like the armholes could be a bit bigger for comfort.

You look pretty in both outfits but if I were to dissect the outfits this is what I would come up with.
The green is a gorgeous colour on you. It seems to be a jewel tone and is very flattering. As The Cat has said, the red is a warmer colour and may not be your best.
Both pairs of jeans look great on you but the slim straights with the buttons are super cute.

That saturated yet vibrant green is a beautiful colour on you! The red seems to have a slightly orange tone and might not be your best red.

IMHO slim straights generally look much better than skinnies. :-)

To my eye, there is nothing christmassy about any of these outfits. Neither your green nor your red are the typical Christmas colours, and they are not combined. While the combination of a certain red and a certain green might signal Christmas in the days around December 25, I don't see why various reds and greens shouldn't be worn year round.

Both outfits look great.

The difference that I see first is the cohesiveness of the accessorizing factors from shoes to jewelry to everything but the jeans and tops. The green outfit has consistently light and bright details, even the buttons on the jeans and the light soles of your shoes and it makes the outfit "shine" more.

However, still think the red is excellent, just a different mood/day.

I'm thinking, also, that from the photos I would guess that the red
is a bit more restrictive in the shoulders than would be ideal and if so
then you would have an awareness of that not-rightness? A Goldilocks thing.

If you were me, here is why I'd be feeling better in today's outfit than yesterday's (and it has nothing to do with color and very little to do with style):

• I'm wearing new shoes! I like new stuff! it feels good.

• My hair is done! Yesterday I did not feel good about my hair.

• I'm not tugging at my sweater. I did not have the patience for doing that all day yesterday.

• I squeezed my butt into skinnies yesterday after a summer of not wearing them, and that felt bad (physically and psychologically). I didn't like feeling that way.

• My shoes looked fine yesterday but I felt bad in them. I don't like feeling out of style.

Yes nemosmom, this is 100% true for me too! For example when life is chaotic is will find myself craving black and white - clean, uncomplicated, controlled. I definitely need to get a better handle on the emotional component of my dressing, and stop trying to give it objective logic - if that makes sense?

Can I add that sometimes it can be a mix of mood and fit? If I am feeling mentally stressed (or otherwise overstimulated) by something *other* than clothes, I feel like certain fits or features can just compound my sensitivity.

Kids being overly noisy/obnoxious, stress over work, feeling rushed, can make a favorite sweater feel more itchy, a shoe feel more annoying, or pants feel tighter than they would normally... Not saying that is the case for you, but consider a piece a few times under different conditions before letting it go!

Thanks so much everyone for your input! I agree it wasn't the colour ... I think the fit and details were more important. The devil is in the details as they say, and I can be extremely sensitive to these small differences by nature. These are the lessons learned I am taking from this thread:

It would be helpful to isolate variables when trying outfits vs. taking or leaving an outfit on the whole

I need to make sure my jeans are more "current classic" and the skinnies are maybe ready for the donate bin (or at least the holding zone). Aside somewhat: I need to add an addition pair (maybe black) in a newer silhouette (straight rather than skinny prob).

I need to think about harmonizing details (e.g. the detail on the jeans to the jewellery), the shoe situation, etc.

I need to think about whether my colour mood is for something more soft and harmonious or more bold

I need to pay attention to fit and I might need to assess my current collection for items that are too small

Thank you for the masterclass friends!

Sometimes it feels like the red color takes too much attention to that particular item of clothing.
That nice cool green color is perfect on you - it is more complementary to your coloring ( to my eye at least ) and gives just the right color pop to the outfit. The slightly more relaxed fit could be one of the reasons you like that outfit more than the other ( which is pretty on you as well ).
Blue and green is one of my fav combinations - just a bit quieter but still impactful.

I like both outfits but I was going to suggest something similar to nemosmom -- start with yesterday's outfit and swap in/out elements of today's one at a time to see if you can identify what makes the biggest difference. (Haha the ylf analytical contingent strikes again.)

To my eye, today's shoes look more intentional than yesterday's. Also, while yesterday's red is a good color on you, today's green subtly matches your eyes (which have some green in them, right?), and that may make it extra harmonious.

For my own outfits lately something usually feels 'off' because of one piece. Maybe try the green sweater with the skinnies and yesterday's sneaks with today's outfits. Do it over the next couple of days before hair/makeup to see if that helps to pinpoint it at all.

But honestly I think both look really good on you!!

I am not much help as they both look equally good to me. These must be very subtle differences that make YOU feel better rather than noticeable ones. I know drape is very important to me feeling better in an outfit. I do feel better in certain colours too obviously. I just cannot see it. I am curious to see Angie's opinion.

So, I am wearing basically the same outfit as yesterday, today, with a few differences, and I like today's about 1000x better. Trying to discern why, and have a few thoughts:

the colour, though also in my palette and fairly bright and saturated, is a little softer and less bold (??? do you think?)

the jeans are my slim straights rather than my old skinnies - I might be over those skinnies and needing the more current feel

these are the new shoes, they work much better to add polish

the green sweater is a size larger than the red, and it feel less fiddly and drapes better

My hair is done today but I got dressed first and had the same feeling, so that's not it ... and I've been lazier with my makeup today too.

Any thoughts on why the green works better than the red? Or do you have similar 'same but totally different' feeling outfits?

PS - Yes, I look like I'm ready for Christmas. It's been pointed out to me by the offspring lol!
