In addition to the turtleneck thing, layering knits on knits can also sometimes lend that feeling; plus this particular style of cabling can be tricky as well. I think this cardigan color is very pretty and could certainly see it worn over a more structured shirt like a button-up, which would also add some useful structure when wearing the cords. This shorter necklace would look great with a non-turtleneck lower layer, but with this particular combo I would prefer to see a much longer pendant (one that doesn't sit entirely above the v-neck) or a long scarf if you wear them. Also second (or third or fourth?) the ankle bootie suggestion, either heeled or flat. Would love to see your rework of this outfit, it has good potential!

Love the cardi! I'm picturing this with a classic white button-down shirt underneath, collar open with the necklace just peeking out, and cuffs turned back over the sweater sleeves. Trying just the middle 2 or 3 buttons fastened as others have suggested. Worn with camel or khaki trousers and a brown shoe or bootie - a classic look, I know, but classic is still fab!
In spring, I'd try to find a peach shirt, somewhat lighter than the sweater, maybe a tone-on-tone botanical print.
I think this color is perfect for you, but the black is too high contrast with your lovely soft coloring.

I agree with all the feedback (no turtleneck, scarf orbigger neckace, etc).
Do you have any camis or shells to try underneath?
I also agree this one might look even better with dark wash jeans than with black.
Finally, to really emphasize my waist, I often button only one or two buttons just under the breasts. Give that a try as part of your experimenting perhaps.

This cardi is a great colour and texture and I agree with others that it is the turtle neck that is the problem here.

I like the cardigan a lot. But the v seems to be counteracted by the t-neck. I avoid those like the plague, because I'm short, short-necked and busty, plus claustrophobic. Try the cardi over a scoopneck and see how it looks unbuttoned.

New shoes are always justified!

Thank for all of the help! I will try a cream scoop neck under it or my white v neck tee and see if that helps. I will also try the button suggestions.

I tend to worry so much about not matching, I think I over compensate and become too match matchy.

I love the idea of animal print slipper shoes or some booties. While I love the idea of suede, I think the slush, snow and salt and would eat them here. Still, Sam Edelman really gets a lot of rave reviews. Off to Zappos to check him out!

I think the cardigan is such a pretty color and agree that the turtleneck might not be the right choice to wear with it. Also, perhaps unbuttoning a button or two might help give a little more V and be more flattering. Low heeled booties would be great, I have the Sam Edelman Petty boot and are less than 1 1/2 in and quite comfy, you should check them out. I just ordered another pair in black suede.

Thistle, I really like the cardigan on you! I think it's the right shape and color. I agree with what the others are saying - I think the cardigan doesn't look right to you more because of the turtleneck than anything else; perhaps you chose the turtleneck today because of the weather? I can totally see this cardigan with a white scoop-neck top and a pair of dark denim jeans in the same shape as your pants....... and maybe a pair of leopard print flats like Moira suggested? Wowee! Don't give up on that cardigan yet... I think there are lots of options out there for you still

I agree that a scoop or even a V neck T underneath would lighten the look. I am not a fan of turtlenecks except for the most swan necked among us, I also think a different color. Maybe a print, possibly a cool mint green.
The thing I think you should try with that sweater is leaving the top and bottom, maybe even the bottom two buttons open. I think that will "shape" the sweater better to your amazing curves.
Some shoes with a pointy toe, even if they are flats would look great. Leopard perhaps? HMMMM????

I think if you added a great scarf that draped down the front, it would create the long line you are seeking. You could also belt the cardi...

That cardigan is such a pretty color on you! I agree, a scoop neck top in a less contrasting color, wear the cardi open, and switch out the shoes for low heeled boots or a cool flat like a slipper shoe and you're all set.

I think the black top with the black pants with a colored cardi over it is matchy-matchy and can look a little frumpy. I agree with K to try switching the black turtleneck for a lighter color without a turtleneck. Scoops can look really good under v-necks.

I think you might be subconsciously feeling the tension between the v-neck cardigan and the turtleneck. I'm personally not too much of a fan of turtlenecks with v-necks. I think it is accentuated a bit by the fact that the turtleneck is so dark and the sweater is relatively light. It has a lot of contrast. Maybe a scoop neck in a lighter color under this sweater would make you feel better?

You know what really strikes me with this, though? How much more amazing your gorgeous figure looks in the tops and particularly the sweater that you posted for your Nordstrom purchases!

Ankle booties would be great. I've put most of my cardies away for a bit. I think if you wore this unbuttoned or traded for a fitted jacket or swacket of some sort it would be more modern. The cardi would look great with a dress or skirt.

I wore my new Jones New York cords today. It was cold, overcast, and windy, so their warmth and softness was welcome. I also liked the black color, it felt like a warm, rich black, if that makes sense.

The Cardigan, however, I am less sure of. It has the texture that is supposed to be on trend. it is v-neck for us pears. Yet, I still feel it might be stealing my waist and adding too much frump.

Necklace was a gift from DH and was supposed to help add a vertical line.

I desperately need to upgrade the shoes. These are my super comfortable Wolkies. I think the pants would do better with some nice ankle boots. Still looking for a pair I love with a very low heel.
