Thank you for all the input from everybody. It seems that almost everyone feels the same way, that #2 was the best outfit. Thanks for the thumbs-up, Angie.

I've been enjoying the charcoal too. I am considering a slow shift from black to charcoal, at least for the top half. We shall see. I'm kind of addicted to black...

Caro, some day we are going to have to find ourselves on the same continent. That would be great!

I think #2 works best - both with and without the belt, and with both scarves. Well done!

Grey is a great colour on you.

"Gaylene, thank you for the words "easy elegance". That is probably as good a descriptor of what I'm aspiring to as anything I have heard or thought of. With a side of funk, or quirk, or romanticism (something I haven't indulged much lately, but I'll get to it)."

I love these words for you so perfect. Wish we were on the same continent we could have a clothes party & just try things on to see what worked.

Hello, fuschia belt twin! I quite like your belt over sweater + scarf look, and like you would prefer the gray scarf with the pink belt to gray and burgundy.

Btw, my DH has the same reaction to floaty tops. Every time I bring one home he furrows his brow and tries to think of something to say other than "that looks like old lady clothes".

JR, I just had to pop back in to tell you how much I love these outfits. You look so polished and chic. I'm with KCS in marveling at how you've mastered that easy, elegant look these days--and I don't think it's just the change of season. You've got such a good eye for putting the elements together no wonder you're getting all these compliments.

And I'm joining with you in seriously envying Caro's ability to wear those loose, floaty tops. My husband's comment the last time I tried something like that on was "are you trying to look like Bea Arthur on the Golden Girls?" Ouch!

Caro, yes I've worn the fuchsia belt with the skirt before. I maybe should have thought of that yesterday, although I was really enjoying the silver vibe then.

My wardrobe is almost entirely basic essentials. My practical streak, I guess. I rely on scarves and to a lesser extent, earrings, to spice things up. Maybe that will change over time. I would love to have a couple of loose, long, floaty tops like yours, for example. Although my very un-boho husband would probably be ill at ease with them. LOL! If he had the final say in all my clothing, I would wear only structured, lady-like things all the time... I don't mind those things, but I usually want to loosen them up somewhere. And I would go frantic wearing them day in and day out.

I like the look of the top untucked either with or without the belt. I also like the skirt on you. Does the belt work with the skirt? I think you are right about the pants - there seems to be extra fabric in the thigh area. Your scarves are lovely, they really finish things off.

Thank you so much, K, that is very sweet of you. Although I did join in the summer, which is a very challenging season for me, clothing-wise, especially the last couple of years. But I have really appreciated learning how to look at my outfits with more informed eyes, so I can make better choices with new purchases, which was really my goal in joining the forum.

I agree that your two original outfits look very nice, but the skinny belt over your sweater in the update looks even better!

Also, I understand the burgundy with fuchsia hesitation. I'm slow to mix colors too. However, today I tried a burgundy scarf on with my fuchsia top and I was amazed how great they can look together. Definitely try it sometime! I often find that matchy matchy coordinated, which is my first impulse, is less interesting and less gorgeous than something with a bit of friction to it, like burgundy and fuchsia!

JR, I have to comment that I feel like you are growing by leaps and bounds in your style since joining the forum. I don't know if you can see that or feel that way, but it is very obvious to the rest of us!

I like both #1 and #2. Have you tried putting a narrow belt like that OVER an untucked sweater? Sometimes it shifts around too much, but it can create a nice shape. Both scarves are gorgeous on you.

I would love to see #3 with your jacket and boots which I am sure really finish it beautifully.

Emily's post reminded me that I also have a fuchsia belt (the amount of overlap between our wardrobes is starting to weird me out, LOL) so I got to play after all. I do have a fuchsia T-shirt which I dearly love, but today is frigid around here, and I just couldn't face the prospect. I don't normally wear the same scarf two days running, but sometimes you just have to sacrifice for the cause.

Pic #2 is how I started the day out. All in all, I felt better in my original outfit. What do you think? Does it work better? Why or why not? I swapped out the scarf because I didn't want the burgundy competing with the fuchsia, but perhaps I was just being anal. And perhaps #1 would have been better untucked.

Pic #3 is yesterday's outfit: silver and black with denim. It made me very happy, and when I went out, I added riding boots and my black knit jacket (with silver hardware).
