#1 and #2 are my favorites. Love the pattern mix and that skirt is super flattering on you JR. I am not crazy about the cardigan in this combination. I think a cardigan in a finer knit, slim fitting sleeve and deep v neck would work beautifully.

Great pattern mixing and I live your scarves, too. You look wonderful is this type of skirt silhouette. The fuchsia belt adds a lovely touch of color.

I like the cardigan! Another option would be to unbutton the third button and to leave the top two on the ribbed part of the sweater buttoned. I'm thinking it might add a little movement and swing to the look, if that makes sense.

I love how you play and experiment! Love the pattern mixing and the colors and the joy-fuschia belt.

My heart did a pitter-patter when I saw your gray cardigan. I used to have a cardigan very similar, but I wore it to death. You know my favorite look with it? This will sound funny coming from me, since I've said repeatedly how little I do not wear such shirts, but I loved that cardigan paired with a crisp white button down collared shirt!!!! Worn with cardi buttoned to the top, as you have here, with collar splayed, and shirt untucked. There's something about white + grey that is sharp. I think that's the appeal of your striped shirt too, no?

I like 1 and 4. The unbuttoned at the bottom cardi in 3 just puts odd emphasis on the belt and fly of the skirt.

Definitely worth a try with pants! Do you have any wide legs? That was my first thought with the cardigan, but of course it might also be too much volume. Unbuttoned over a fitted lower layer untucked so it's longer than the cardigan with straight leg pants might also work. Or buttoned as it is here over a column of color, preferably something that contrasts so the detailing of the cardigan really stand out.

I like #1 the best. I think the cardi is too much grey. A raspberry one would be nice but seems hard to find. I'm not big on scarves so I'll let others give better advice on those. I will say I prefer more color up by your face so with scarves I'd opt for more color instead of muted with that top.

Everyone's right, you do have great scarves, and you know how to use them! I love the combo of scarf and stripe, too, and a denim pencil skirt is one of my wardrobe essentials. I'm with Una in that I feel the cardi is OK, but not the best part of your outfit. What about a v-neck cardi or a soft, stretchy blazer? I think it's the silhouette that throwing me off, and the gray is calming and pretty, but there's a lot of it near your face. Again, I don't dislike, I just have loved white and pink on you!

You have an innate sense of style, JR, and you are clearly coming into your own! Yeah!

Jayne, still figuring out my colours. Blues and reds of almost any description, pinks too. White, as Angie never tires of telling me. Some greens, but I'm still nailing that. Ditto for oranges. I did try it with a couple of bright scarves I had, and it worked, but not with the belt.

Joy, I don't have a proper blazer yet, except the brown one (hmm, maybe I should see how it looks, although I'm skeptical) and a grey jacket which is a bit fitted. Because it's a bit fitted, it's starting to look too big, although I should be able to squeeze a little more wear out of it before it's too obvious. Boxy styles accommodate changing sizes better. The grey one did indeed look very cute with this outfit, although a little more formal. In the right context, I would go for it. Around the house, not so much. A denim jacket is definitely on my wish list. If I can find an incredible bargain, I'll buy one now, otherwise, next year.

I'm experimenting rather freely at this stage. I want to make all my mistakes while I'm still buying cheap. ;o) Or when it's just playing with combinations in front of the mirror. Doesn't cost me anything, and no regrets for things that don't work.

Parsley, all my structured tops will be coming with the cool weather. And as wardrobe holes open up, I will probably get more.

Thanks Aida. Do you think it would work better over pants? I also threw on one of my husband's old shirts as a different kind of topper, and I actually really liked the look.

Great combos! I think I see what Una sees regarding the cardigan; for me, it's the length more than anything. I'd like to see it either shorter, so it's more properly cropped, or longer, so it's more of a boyfriend style; right now it's a neither here nor there length. I especially like #5, and think that'd look great with a blazer added, too.

You've been having fun with pattern mixing! Do you have a blazer that you could try with this outfit? A white denim jacket would also look good, I think. There's something about the structure of a jacket, although your cardigan looks cozy.

I like the gray and white on you, JR, and the stripes are cute with the denim skirt.
The scarf in #5 looks creative and fun with it, as does the bright pop of color of the fuchsia belt.

That denim skirt is a great piece for you! I like the trim fit, and the length is perfect. It looks good with tees, and I think it would also look great with a woven top, as merwoman has said. Maybe a drapey silk shirt or a woven V-neck or slightly scoop-neck top?

I liked 2 best actually. The cardi felt boxy and I suppose it hides something but it also hides your waist. The color might also be a factor in that you have pale skin, pale hair, and now another thing of the same shade. What are your colors? Maybe yellow, or red, or orange for you? I liked the scarf in 2 that made the outfit go from thrown on, to planned. in my eye

That's somewhat what I mean. Something I've learned from YLF is to move from Tshirt to a different structured top. I find it a bit more grown up (and yes even in my 50's I am still learning how to be a grown up - and I find it more flattering/appealing to my eye.

Mer, body-skimming as opposed to tight, I suppose you mean? I think you're right there, I kind of went nuts with Tshirts this year. And I confess, I kind of count on shrinking when I buy.

Please excuse the wet head. We finally have something of a cool day, so I could bring out some longer sleeves. First time wearing this top. :o) Couldn't resist adding the fuchsia belt for that little shot of joy I tend to favour, although the earrings were already a move in that direction.

And, of course, I played with several ways of layering it. Right now I'm sitting here in the last option, as I let the house cool off overnight. Very pleasant after such a muggy summer.
