Agree with the rest that the individual pieces are fine. The shape of the trousers is flattering and if you still like them you could always get them taken in. If anything is too worn then let it go otherwise just experiment a bit more with mixing these pieces with other items in your wardrobe.

If, as you say, the trousers don't make you feel fab and don't fit well -- let them go! But keep the other items: you like them and they're workhorses. Just because this outfit doesn't work doesn't means they won't work in anything else.

I actually love my casual buttondowns; they're total workhorses in my wardrobe. But I pair them with jeans or casual pants to play with their casual vibe. Someday I may get brave enough to try casual buttondown + dressy trousers + casual pants (my cons, maybe?), but that'll be a while because I'm a slow learner. So great to see you diving right into that combo, though!

BTW, you have an amazing eye for pieces. I love the detailing on your tank, boots, and watch. I can't wait to see what you bring into your wardrobe to replace your pants!

The shirt looks kind of wrinkled. What if it were freshly ironed?

There is nothing wrong with the separates, but all the items do not go together. A classic trouser needs a different type of bootie, the top is lovely but not as a layer for that shirt.
Try the top + cardi or jacket + trousers + black bootie

I would let the pants go as they do look like they are too big for you. The shirt could work but I don't think it needs the tank underneath (it is lovely though). But if you are. It enjoying these pieces, I would let them go.

Thanks everyone!

Ceit - Sorry it wasn't well captured in the photo, but the issue with the trousers is that they are too large, and were bought before I cared about PPL, so they only work with flats, which looks frumpy to me now.

Victoria, Caro, JR - It was my suspicion that this outfit simply wasn't melding, so thank you for confirming. My BF is no help when I ask for input! I appreciate the suggestions on how to improve the proportions.

Suz - always so sweet, thank you!

missvee - I am looking to replace with new button downs soon, but I am also in the market for a knit jacket. My office is incredibly casual, and it is really challenging to find the vibe I like, but I think knit jacket might do the trick.

I would not put those wide pants with those boots. Skinny pants would draw more attention to the detail. Also, the boots are a bit on the bulky side, so pairing them with a wide silhouette makes the whole thing feel bulky.

I agree with the consensus that there is nothing wrong with any of these pieces as such, they just aren't melding very well here.

I think the shirt would still work with casual shorts in the summertime. I like that slightly rumpled look when it's hot out. What were you thinking of instead? Maybe a more structured jacket, or knit jacket?

If any of these are worn then let them go.........
I like the length & shape of the shirt on you but as the others have said it doesn't work with these pieces.

Just my five cents-the biggest issue is that all the items do not go together-I can see this shirt with trousers but these boots do not look right with tailored pants. To me, it would be better with jeans. Same for tank top, I would put it with different bottom. I think all these pieces are fine, just not together

Yes I think the shirt can go. The tank is lovely, and I can't see the trousers in enough detail to comment.

Today's outfit needs help. There's nothing terribly wrong with it, but I don't feel fab in it. I am in a position where some of my former wardrobe workhorses either don't fit or have begun to feel worn out. Such is the case with this striped shirt. It is starting to remind me of my grandpa's pajamas!
Anyway, I love the tank underneath, the watch, and the boots, but I think the button down and trousers may need to retire. What do you think, YLFers?

Thanks for looking!
