Thanks Diane.

Isis - I really put off purchasing jeans and trousers even when I am slimmer as it is such a mission to find something that fits and is flattering - thank goodness for my tailor. I guess I have the usual pear dilemna of buying to fit my hips & thighs and then tailoring to fit my waist. I have no problem with tops & skirts but trouser/jean shopping is the bane of my life - and I love to shop.

I think the jeans look great, from the front and from the back.

But if they are at all uncomfortable, I would buy a larger size.

Personally, I don't find uncomfortable tight clothes an incentive. I make better choices when I'm feeling attractive and healthy in the moment. So I'm firmly in the camp of dressing for the body you have now.
Well I think you look fab in all pics. It sure isn't obvious that the jeans are snug on you. I like the bit of a boho vibe that you have going on in #1 and the combo with your jacket is great !

I agree with Parsley. I looked at them and thought, what's the problem? In fact in the second round of photos, in the more autumnal outfit, the jeans even look like they have some slight bagging in the back.

I do like the bootcut style of these on you, so feel they are worth keeping. Pockets like these are an acquired taste. I wear plenty of jeans with lower placed pockets (all of my True Religions) similar to these. What I like about them is they draw the eye up and down rather than sideways. Although one could also argue they just plain old draw they eye back there to begin with. Which isn't a bad thing. We ladies do provide eye candy to the men. There's a reason they like to say, "ladies first."

Parsley & Ingunn thanks for your lovely remarks - I'm reassured that I don't look like I'm exploding out of my jeans and can therefore put off the dreaded jeans shopping trip.

I looked through all the pictures wondering, "Where is the problem?", and really couldn't see one. So I would let comfort be your guide. If they drive you crazy when you wear them it's not worth it! But if they just feel a little snug, then rest assured you look good, and nobody will think there's anything amiss.

Your outfit in shades of blue certainly looks fabulous on you, and love your sneaks!

Thanks Beth Ann - you're right dark wash definitely disguises more sins than lighter washes. The pockets aren't actually particularly subtle as they have a button flap which I try and cover with whatever top I am wearing. I actually had this style of jeans in a lighter colour a few years ago but I was about 20lbs lighter than I am now (god it feels terrible to say that).
Hmm glad I decided to cut my hair.

Firstly, on days like this I remind myself that I don't love my friends more when they're at their trimmest. I often have a hard time noticing extra weight on others when it's just around 10 lbs or so. We see your beauty and style!

These jeans are a dark wash, which is easier to pull off when the pants are a little snug, IMHO. The pocket placement isn't great, but the pockets are subtle, so I think they still work if you aren't physically uncomfortable wearing them.

Kiwi, what in the world are you talking about? These look totally fine to me! You look wonderful in general. If you have other jeans/pants you can wear to alternate (for comfort), I'd totally keep these and work towards having them loosen up a little. If you seriously could not get them on, that would be different, and I'd tell you to buy some clothes that fit you now.

I love seeing your fab boho style with that great tunic and scarf.

I think these look fab on you, but if they don't feel fab, I would size up. You are gorgeous, and your beautiful body deserves to be dressed well whatever size it is. Angie's motto: dress the odd you have today. :)

I really think 1-3 is on trend with the loose flows top, and I love 3-6 on you. So fab!

Caro - clearly I have a high discomfort threshold and little desire to try on new jeans.
Sarah - yep 10lbs is about how much I have put on too and as both you and Nicole have said DH may have it right with buying the larger size.

I think they look alright in the photos. I have also gained a few pounds (ok like 10!) and I find some days I can wear the tighter clothes (I'm talking to you pink skinnys!) and some days I want nothing to do with them and choose larger pants (that BF trend will get you!). I am in DH's club too that buying larger is a disincentive to slimming back down.
I think this is so personal - what is mild discomfort to some is day-ruining for another. Unfortunately I'm in the later category - I can't wear anything I'm uncomfortable in, I just end up fiddling all day.

Gaaaaaah! Jeans! Such a barometer of weight gain! I have a few pairs that I know "fit" but fit a whole lot better when I am my fighting weight. THey look amazing on you just the way they are, but I think DH is right. Wear them and every time you strain to button them up, use that as motivation to make better choices.

Donna and Diana - there aren't any pull marks on the jeans and no issues with air circulation they just feel really tight on my thighs and a bit uncomfortable around the waist but not too uncomfortable to wear to work which doesn't require me to do anything too strenuous. I certainly wouldn't wear them on a longhaul flight or chasing around after my grandson. But if they don't look bad, to be honest, I'd keep wearing them until they fit again. DH's theory is if I size up theres no incentive to loose the weight and the danger of growing to fit the bigger size - sadly (based on my complete lack of will power) he may have a point.

Your tops are creating a bit of a shadow, so from the pics it is hard to tell if there is pulling above. If the jeans are biting you or hurt when you sit down, I would stop wearing them. Also, umm, if too tight for air to circulate, you could end up with, umm, a yeast infection. And if you feel unfab and completely self-conscious in them, you may want to give them a break.

You know if you go out and buy new jeans, they will probably end up setting a record for stretching and bagging more than any jean known to womankind and will end up being two sizes too big for you! I mean, isn't that how these things go?

But no, in your pics you look as fab as ever and I was drawn to your beautiful face and didn't really notice the fit of the jeans themselves, just that you can wear a bootcut well even if you are wearing flats.

Here are a couple of casual Friday outfits. When I first bought these jeans they were a comfortable fit but unfortunately I have put on a lot of weight since then. In fact all my jeans seem a little too snug but fortunately have some elastane in them - these jeans don't. Anyway for better or worse I have continued to wear them but have avoided examining myself too closely in the mirror especially from the rear view as the pocket placement on these jeans even when they fit better was not the best.

Photos 1-3 are the jeans worn with a chambray loose fit peasant blouse, scarf and my fab new sneakers.

Photos 4-6 same jeans, sneakers and scarf with more tailored jacket and blue top.

Should I stop wearing these jeans until my weight returns to normal or I admit defeat and size up?

Would they look better with longer butt/thigh disguising tops (like the chambray top which covered the pockets at the back)?

Should I continue wearing them but avoid ever walking in front of others and only exit rooms by walking out backwards?

Or is the front view just as bad as the back view so stop wearing them all together?

Help I hate buying jeans which is why I think I hold onto them for too long as I dread going shopping.

Edit: added photo of my sneakers did I mention I love them - great colour and soooo comfortable.
