Approprio - the garden is in Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto and is one of the most famous zen gardens, so no doubt you would have visited it on your holiday. I do love Japan so very much!

Thank you for sharing these pictures! Your style is so fun and full of personality. I am totally digging the cap and big sunnies on you. And you make it work with a golden rain coat. That takes sass. My kids haven’t entered the Pokemon phase yet, but I understand we are going to need a lexicon soon.

Anne - living in Japan, that would be fun. It is much easier to get around now than in the past, Google maps makes everything easy to find.

Firecracker - we were made so welcome. As most Japanese people travel themselves, they are incredibly hospitable and kind to tourists.

These are great touring outfits, or great outfits, period. Casual, pretty, chic, and fun with touches like your baseball cap and floral docs thrown in. What a cute photo with the children--looks like you were welcomed and were having a great time.

Great to see your pictures Bijou. We lived in Japan 20 years ago and I think I visited at least some of those places! I agree that summer isn't the best time to travel (April is good) - but we traveled twice in August anyway because that is when we got holidays. I have a very good appetite, but that Japanese summer is about the only time I have lost it.

Lyn D - glad that I am not the only adult that loves Pokemon, lucky that I have an 8 year old to share it with!

Harmonica - hopefully you make it to Japan some day. We are lucky in Australia that the airfares are not too bad to get there, but the accomodation is expensive. It is definitely a great cultural experience, from high tech Tokyo to the amazing ancient temples. The food was wonderful too.

Iozz_oz Lucky you - Japan in September will be perfect. July was great, but very hot. The gold jacket was very handy because most days at about 4pm there was torrential rain.

JuniperGreen - I did a little shopping. I bought a handbag and dress in Tokyo, which were my good purchases, and then some fun t-shirts etc on the rest of my trip. For Pokemon fans there was a very cool Pikachu t-shirt in Uniqlo (so I bought 3 of these so that I have a constant supply)!

Diana - for me shoes are the most important element to get right on a trip. I brought 4 pairs, because my feet are so fussy that I need to change up what I wear every day to avoid any blisters. Unfortunately that took up quite a bit of space in my case. The gold jacket was used daily to deal with the heavy rain.

JoyceB - thanks, I always enjoy seeing other's travel posts too.

Rachylou - your uncle sounds like fun, although abandoning your Mum was pretty bad. I am sure he would not be so mean to his niece - it must be that he reverts to being a naughty little brother when with her.

Jenni NZ - Funny to think that I may have crossed paths with your daughter. It was hot, but luckily I do like the heat and it was nice to escape the Australian winter weather.

Brooklyn - thanks for your kind words. I love florals too.

K2 - you are wise to pack cool cottons and linens. I didn't really believe that Japan got quite so hot - as on previous visits I was always freezing cold (but that is because I am Australian and don't really know what cold weather is at all)!

Ryce - I must admit to loving shoes! I probably should have travelled with less shoes as it meant that there was not much space left to buy anything new.

Sal - I really enjoyed getting away and experiencing a place so different from where I live. However, it is lovely to be home again. I missed my doggie Bijou very much.

Nice pics. Heading to Japan tomorrow for two weeks, but will definitely not be bringing jeans or a jacket. You look cool and composed, I don't expect the same in my pics as the heat may melt me as I'm used to a much drier and less hot Canadian climate! Lots of linen and flowy things for me.

We took a recent trip to Kyoto Japan to visit temples and also the Pokemon Centre and toy stores for my 8 year old son.

These are some WIW's and also a couple of photos of Kyoto near where we stayed in Gion.

I love Japan because of the amazing gardens and culture. This was my first visit in summer and it was hot and humid. If you have never been before, I would recommend spring and autumn as better times to travel. The bonus of Kyoto in summer and winter is that it is not crowded and you get to enjoy the zen gardens in serenity. However, walking up the hills to get to the temples was hot work as you climb many steps - photo 3 gives an idea and that is just to get to the temple, there are many more steps once in there.

1. Boho blouse, jeans and gold sandals and cap. Being very touristy, I purchased the cap on this holiday.

2. Linen t-shirt dress, gold rain jacket and gold sneakers. The students asked if they could have a photo with me and my son (they previously had made comments that he looks like Justin Bieber and loved his Yokai Watch t-shirt).

3. Crepe blouse, jeans and docs.

4. t-shirt and shorts in the zen garden.

5. Maiko walking down the streets of Gion (Geisha in training).

6. The children's parade in Gion.
