Aw thanks, Alasse. :-)

Suz, that makes sense. I don't think I fit the definition exactly either, but I know think it's a good framework to work with.

Thanks Denise. I think the camera works in a pinch, but the quality is definitely too bad to print them.

Astrid, I read a few more descriptions of the summers and thought about the colours of the palette that seem to work best for me. To tell the truth, I think I am somewhere *in between* soft and true. I may look nearer to "soft" when my skin is a bit tanned (so more neutral) and a bit nearer to "true" when my skin is not tanned.

I remembered the colour consultant's confusion that I could wear darker colours better than she had expected. It turns out that is a common characteristic in "soft" summers vs. "true" summers. Also, what really looks worst on me are super bright or clear colours -- I just disappear. So that seemed like another clue.

But mostly it had to do with how very well I wear taupe. That is not a colour that works quite as well on a "true" summer.

On the other hand, I look awful in the light coral that most "soft" summers are supposed to be able to wear, horrid in those light yellows, and I really can't handle much warmth at all, except for true red (sometimes). Plus, one of my best colours is that soft fuchsia, which "true" summers seem to wear best.

So, like you, I'm happy to pick and choose between them, just generally keeping the soft - shading -into true summer in mind. I guess in the end if we focus on cool, mid-toned colours with greys, taupes, navy, or soft white as neutrals, we'll be all right. :)

Thanks Aubergine! I'm glad you enjoyed my post...

Thanks Elly! I'm going to work on going lighter and more diverse with my colors, going forwards. Purple is an old friend of mine, although I'm still a bit leery about reds. But the right ones look great! I'm having a haircut tomorrow and my stylist wanted me to try putting in some highlights, but I'm not sure yet. I do trust him not to overdue it and to choose the right color, but I guess I'm still traumatised from the last try. We'll see.

Thanks Suz! Yes, I also came to the conclusion that I'm a soft summer after all. I just had a crap color chart and wasn't testing on the right colors, I think. I'm think I'm going to fare better just judging things on my own, keeping the characteristics of a soft summer in mind. And how interesting that you made a switch to SSu! What made you think that the consultant might have been wrong? And yes, Berlin is lovely in the sun. Not so much when it's raining, but oh well... I also enjoy just making some flying visits to the museums, I have an annual ticket. #9 was in the Old National Gallery, there was a group doing some kind of arts seminar there, talking about how to communicate different concepts in art to students.

Astrid, thank you for sharing both your outfit and your walk! You look terrific and how lovely to see you in the closeup. Now I finally see your true hair colour! I am saying you are a Soft Summer. Oh, and guess what? I recently self-diagnosed myself as a Soft Summer, also, changed from the True Summer the colour consultant said. So we can be colour twins.

What a gorgeous city you live in. And it seems as if your day was rich in aesthetic beauty. Drink it in!

I love the outfit too, and your hair has been looking really good recently. I like this relaxed look-- it still has a lot of style. I would love to see you in some not "warm" colors, but colors on the warm end of your spectrum mixed with your blues and darks. Purples and reds look goregous on you as well, and so do teals!

Loved this post so much! Between the pictures and your musings about the violinist, I feel like you almost transported us there with you. And thinking of your parents having that conversation about how you were born into a whole new world -- just so powerful.

Astrid, you are looking very pretty...hair...outfit. I love your sensibility, and I so enjoy your posts about your links to your family. Though I live in Canada, and am half American, I am also half German! I had an Oma and an Opa, and spent time in their small town of Schiefweiler (near Saarbruchen). I try to incorporate some traditions with my family (DH is 100% Scottish!), so sons are 1/4 German).

Thanks frannieb! I will, no worries. I don't think I could have stopped taking regular pictures anyway, it has become a part of everyday life I guess.

Thanks Ornella! Yes, it was just him sitting there on his jacket, with the case next to him. I heard him before I saw him and I was suprised when I did. And yes, of course it wasn't just any day. I was born November 1989, so I know the pictures and everything only from documentaries and school. My mum was in hospital shortly after the wall fell and she once said she talked with my dad and they wondered how life would be for me, a child that would grow up in a whole new world, totally different to what they had known.

Thanks Firecracker! Actually I have no idea what the English name is...

Thanks Gingko! Berlin is definitely worth a visit, but make sure you visit when there's a good chance for nice weather.

That is such a great look on you, it definitely bears repeating! I enjoyed your writing about the violinist--how touching, that your sister plays your Opa's violin now. Your photos make me long to be in Germany again. I loved those crisp, sunny fall days and enjoyed walking everywhere, too. (I was in Heidelberg, 1990 to 1993.)What a beautiful way to spend Unification Day (if I've got the name right).

What a beautiful moment to see and hear someone playing like your Opa did. And I love seeing the man on your photo - just him, the instrument and (?) the jacket he's sitting on so he's not cold. The acoustics in that place must have helped. I cannot but wonder if the little girl who's so focused on him is what you looked like listening to Opa when you were that age.

Yesterday wasn't just any holiday, was it? Do you remember anything from 1989 and that day ;-)? I remember the news and headlines very well, I was 17. My son explained to us what had happened, our neighbour had told him about the significance of the date, I loved hearing the version adapted to the 7yo child. We then told him that he had already been at "that" wall and he was really eager to see the photos to prove it :-)

Oh please keep posting - I went back and looked at your other outfits and I enjoy your style. I like repeats and enjoy seeing how minimlist work their wardrobes.
Great outfit for a wonderful walk on a beautiful day.

Thanks Ruth. I guess you're right... And yes, it's good to have those memories.

Thanks Thimblelina! You're a fellow minimalist, right? I didn't post in the thread we had a few days ago, but I would call my wardrobe minimal too. Without necessarily working on being a minimalist, I just never had that many things to start with.

Thanks! I'm wearing my black oxfords, like in many recent outfits. I've been really enjyoing the weather, usually fall is quite cold and wet so this is awesome. Fingers crossed it stays that way for a bit longer.

I can't quite see your shoes, but I love this outfit and enjoyed the photos from your walk, too! I'm longing for a real autumn day (not the 90 degree heat wave we're experiencing this week) and can't wait to layering with light jackets and wearing tights with skirts.

Are you tired of seeing these clothes yet? I'm wondering if I should keep posting my outfits when there's so little variation anyway...

We're having a long weekend here because yesterday was a national holiday, so the city is packed. And the weather has been fantastic! After realizing that everyone I know is busy elsewhere I just decided to enjoy the beautiful weather on my own and went for a long walk. I just walked everywhere instead of taking public transport like I normally do. I did some window shopping and also tried a few things, but there wasn't anything that was good enough to come home with me. I swear I'm getting more and more picky.

I took some pics with my awful phone camera... See that guy with the violin in #11? I've never heard anyone play that well outside of a concert hall. He was playing the Four Seasons and he did it with such fervor I almost started crying. His playing reminded me so much of my Opa, who was a very talented violinist himself. He stopped playing when I was maybe 12 or 13 years old because his hands stopped doing what he wanted them to, but I remember his playing and how much feeling he put behind it. My sister plays his violin now.
