Wow. I have been compared to Suz. :o) Seeing as I very much like her style, that is a wonderful compliment.

I do like the structured look of a fitted blazer and would cheerfully wear it out, but at home it feels a bit too formal, I guess. Mind you, in mid-winter, if nothing else goes with an outfit, I might end up wearing it. (I tend to keep my house on the cool side. I don't turn up the thermostat unless I'm cold with both a third layer and an indoor scarf.)

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. And I do appreciate the initial wisdom of the forum concerning that top and it will help guide me in future purchases. But I don't purge things for being less than ideal: too cheap for that. It's not bad enough to make me miserable, so I'll wear it around the house for the rest of its life. In the meanwhile, learning to style it in ways to downplay the colour is a good exercise. ;o)

I think you look great in all of the photos! The blazer does bring the look up to a more professional level, and I can see why you may not want to wear it at home. I'm the same way. I'm also struggling with the idea of putting on stockings/tights when just hanging out around home -- especially since I typically kick my shoes off during the course of the day. Thanks for inspiring me to give it a try!

WOW, I love 1-5. You have those chic layers down pat - something I struggle with, or rather gave up on, since it is not in my nature to fuss with layers. I so admire when I see scarves deployed like this!

It is hard for me to see the details of the other pics, but good for you for rebelling and experimenting. No place to test out a semi-tuck than in front of an easy audience like 3-year-olds.

You look fantastic! In fact, your first outfit progression reminds me very much of something Suz would wear, and we all know what fab style she has! I don't think you should feel like you have to wear a blazer in the house. You could wear the sweater, and then change (like Mr. Rogers) if you have to go out. Or, wear a (shhhhh, don't tell) fleece jacket at home if you have little ones touching you with grubby fingers. They are so easy to wash. But that's our secret. I hope your beautiful new boots are breaking in nicely for you.

Thanks, Pil!

Caro, I buttoned the shirt all the way up. Problem solved. I haven't worn a closed collar like that in ages, but I liked the way it turned out. Thanks for prodding me to experiment.

Suz's "arty professional" is a better descriptor than the "snazzy" that came to mind for me : )
I like Caro's idea of the belt. The boots and skirt look great with the hose!

Sona, Kathy, thanks! :o)

Caro, you have a good eye. I do wish the scarf were a little less bulky, I have to admit, because I have to work a bit to get it to cooperate sometimes. If I find a narrower one with a similar colour scheme, I will be all over it. I do agree that #5 needs a little something. I tried a belt at one point, but didn't like it too much. Maybe I tried the wrong belt, or didn't have enough patience to find the sweet spot.

Suz, mallard? Maybe. I'll go look at duck pictures. Thanks for the idea. And yes, a peacock blue is often called teal, which bugs me. I have a hard enough time figuring out colours without people being sloppy in their terminology. Teal is supposed to have a strong greenish tint. Just ask the ducks... ;o) I love wearing all three of them, whatever they are called.

You look fab! Very "arty professional." Those are some of my fave formulas: denim skirt, boots, tights, top, jacket, scarf. Or sub the skirt for jeans.

Of course I LOVE the taupe action.

Is the colour "mallard?" Or maybe it is true teal, and what we sometimes call teal is peacock. Hmmmm.

My favourite is #9. I love the scarf but it seems to "fight" with the collar of the white shirt - if it doesn't ignore this. I would like to see some waist definition in #5 maybe a low-slung belt?

I think the scarves look great. I really love 3! I have issues wearing a blazer for a "casual" look too. I think it's just something to get used to like anything else that is outside our comfort zone. I have two blazers that I am looking to wear both at work and casually when the weather cools.

#1-4 It's a cold day here, and I am resting at home after a few hectic days. What better time to clomp around the house in my new boots and break them in gently? Angie, please note the sheer hose. I don't know if I've ever put nylons on to stay at home before. History is made once again, and you are responsible. ;o) As per normal, the various layers are getting peeled off and reapplied as the day goes on, so all these iterations have made their appearance at one point or another. My daughter stopped by briefly, but other than that, I don't expect to see anyone, so this is almost like a dress rehearsal. The tunic blouse is getting big, but it's white :o) and it stretches, which means it's following me down fairly nicely. I'll squeeze as much wear out of it as I can.

#5 I tried the outfit with a more fitted jacket, just to make Angie happy. I feel stupid wearing a blazer around the house though (maybe I should get over that, I don't know) so I didn't wear it any longer than the picture. Do you think it works with a tunic-length blouse? I am ordering a fantastic Van Gogh scarf, which will marry taupes and blues absolutely wonderfully.

#6-9 I was feeling a wee bit rebellious yesterday and wore the top that gets little love on YLF. I felt good anyway. (Look Ma, my first semi-tuck!) I know the colour isn't my best, and that the top is past its prime, but it is so cute. And the grandkids didn't care. ;o) Busy day, feeding three kids under 3 and their parents, but fun was had by all. I wasn't going to take pictures at all, but relented at the end of the day, which explains the bad colour quality. My apologies. I put my teal-green (I really don't know what to call that colour: like teal blue, but tilted more to green) cardigan on over it, mainly because the neckline frames the crochet detailing so perfectly, and the chameleon scarf that seems to match every colour combination I can throw at it. Besides, combining seemingly incompatible colours is all the rage, judging from the outfits I see in the advertising that walks through my door. I do prefer to add a scarf that contains both colours, when possible, because I am a little anal about colour coordination.

It should be pretty obvious that I am rather sensitive to temperature variations, which is perhaps why I wear scarves so often. I pretty well always plan my outfits with removable items that allow me to fine-tune my comfort during the day.
