I am a fan of this skirt length on you -- it is hitting at narrow part of your upper calf. A nod to the midi trend yet more flattering because of where it's hitting. And, more importantly, when worn with a top this length, you would not want it shorter. The proportions would not be right.

I am imagining a vibrant burgundy and I totally get what you mean by the structure of the fabric. Why is this your only remaining burgundy piece?? What's up with that???

The scarf pulls it all together. My personal motto, especially for fall/winter with darker clothes is "just add white." This works very well for you, as it brightens your face and ties in with your gorgeous hair color.

Well done!

I can't really get a good feel for the outfit, just too dark from where I'm sitting, I love the scarf and can see that just fine.

JR unfortunately I can't see any definition on my screen, but this looks like a very classy silhouette. I don't mind the length but as Suz raised the footwear could impact on this.

This looks very polished and classy. I would love to see it with the boots. I can't wait to check out your hat, I bet it's smashing!

From what I can see this is not old lady at all. Would you be more comfortable in the skirt with the longer length? Less worry about it riding up while sitting.

Good point about the boots, Suz. I tried them to see, and I do think the skirt would benefit from a little shortening. Although this skirt is going to have to work with several different kinds of footwear, as I plan on getting a lot of wear out of it in different kinds of contexts. Black pencil skirts are so versatile.

I like the blouse a lot (what I can see of it) and I also like your scarf. But when don't I like your scarf?

As for the skirt length, I think it looks good here. But here is a question: how did it work with the boots? That is key if you will be wearing those together. Angie has a post or two in the blog about the skirt/boot sweet spot. You might want to check it out and consider how the skirt felt before deciding whether or not to alter.

N-Marie, it was a grey and rainy morning, as befits Remembrance Day, so I didn't have very good light. A flash just doesn't work too well in a mirror... Near my closet is a great place to have the mirror when it comes to dressing, but not so much when it comes to photography.

You have good legs. I think you should take it up to about an inch to mid knee or so.

You might need a bit more light to really showcase the blouse in a photo - it sounds lovely and the shape looks very flattering on you! I'm a big fan of burgundy myself and super excited that it's the "in" color this season.

The skirt length reads a bit long to me, but I'm no expert.

I am disappointed with these photos, because they really do not capture the very rich, saturated tones of the blouse. It's my only remaining burgundy item, but it punches its weight, for sure, at least in terms of colour. It's one of those microsuede materials, which means it's quite stiff. I'm actually grateful for that, as it prevents the ballooning around the shoulders which is the bane of my existence. Or at least of my blouse-wearing.

What do you think of the skirt length? And the outfit in general, taking as a given that the colours of the blouse and scarf are more vibrant than they appear here, is it classic or is it veering toward old lady?

I actually wore it with my riding boots, as I walked to church and it was a wet day, and perhaps too cool for ballet flats anyway. I was too rushed to do pictures with coat and my new hat. That will come soon, because I have questions about the hat too.
