I don't own a denim jacket. I like them on other people but I've never found one I like - they always seem too stiff and uncomfortable. I'm still on the lookout for one though. I wonder if you've tried this with a denim jacket or maybe a utility style vest or something with some leather or suede at the top. Something a little "outdoorsy" or "rugged" in the rest of the outfit might balance it better to my eye. You could even pull off these same booties in a dark color, without tights, and not look stumpy. It takes some getting used to.
