Thanks Dimity! I'm thinking of having the darts added to the skirt I got handed down, I think it would be more comfortable adusted slightly. I'm definitely all for alterations whenever possible, but in this case it's just too big.

Joy, that's a good idea. I try to do that too, but the only one I know that roughly fits my build is my sister. She's enjoyed getting a lot of things over the last few years (she doesn't like to shop), but she wouldn't want too big pants either. My female friends are all very differently sized, no chance to pass something on there... I've already got rid of a lot of other things and I definitely plan to replace the too big items bit by bit.

Thanks Keturah, I'll do that for now. And WOW. Congratulations on the weight loss. I've lost about 30 lb from my heaviest and I regularly wore those pants here about 20 lb ago. They fit more like relaxed skinnies then.

I'd put them in the holding zone and see how you feel about them later on.

I've lost over 175 lb. I don't hang on to clothes that are too large. I might get something taken in, just so it feels more comfortable. But there came point when I simply let it go and bought new clothes to replace. And that is a thing I simply rejoiced in!

I passed on my too big clothes to my sister and some friends, wanting them to get used before they went out of style. I also consigned some, but it's better to give them away to someone who needs them. I did not want them around to ever allow me to gain the weight back. They can be someone else's favorite jeans. If they don't make you smile it's time to release them.

I sometimes take the waist in with two darts at the back and that can make a difference. I like loose clothing though. When it's not flattering, however, it's time to go.

Thanks Alione, Donna and Texstyle. I guess the holding zone really just means procrastination when it comes to letting go... I'll probably part with them sooner rather than later.

In the pics it's hard to tell fit, but I'd probably pass them on and get some that fit you in a way that feels good. I can't stand it when pants are tight but I also can't stand it when there is a lot of extra material.

As I type, I'm wearing a pair of jeans that are comparably loose and baggy BUT I purposely bought (thrifted) them to be loose. In contrast to DD21, I like to wear my clothes pretty loose, and I really haven't seen college/university women going in for baggy BF jeans. They look great on you, but I would put them in a holding zone or pass them on.

Astrid, I agree on your holding zone strategy. When I lost weight 3 years ago, I put a few loved items aside just in case I couldn't keep the weight off. Last year, I passed everything on because I realized the pieces were starting to look dated -- and now that I'm gaining again, I wish I'd kept one or two pairs of trousers and jeans (she says while munching on chocolates!).

Thanks Style Fan!

Rizamei, I don't have that many other jeans, but I really want to look for a great pair this spring to replace all my pairs that are so so. I'm not wearing jeans that often, I prefer skirts anyway. I do have a small budget though.

Diane, that's a good idea. I do think it's going to be the holding zone for now.

Well, I agree with others that they still look pretty good, but of course it's how you feel in them that matters and these kind of fit issues don't always show up that well on photos. It's a good idea to pop them in a holding zone. Maybe you can keep them for Christmas for when you have a belly full of festive food!

As others have said, they look very nice on you. Still, if you no longer enjoy wearing them, and you have enough other options, I'd let them go.

I lost weight last year and went through the process of figuring out what to do with clothes that no longer fit. At first, I just belted them, but once I felt like too much fabric was being gathered at my waist, I donated them. A few things escaped the first couple purges, but I realized that I kept choosing to wear other things that fit better. So I've gotten rid of most of them in the last pass. I'm much happier with my wardrobe now, and my closet's a lot less cluttered. (My budget is a little unhappy, but so it goes.)

Thanks for the input, everyone. I think I'm going to put them into a holding zone (with a few other items)
and see what happens. I still have quite a few other things I'm not sure what to do with. My sister is going to visit me at the end of March and I'll let her pick out of that holding zone, but she's sized similar to me so the too big items won't interest her either.

I agree that they still look good, and with rolled cuffs more of the horizontal scrunching baggy lines would disappear, but if they feel ungainly and awkward and have stale memories it might be worth passing them on or putting them away for awhile.

My weight fluctuates, so clothes that are very close to fitting (either too big or too small) that I like I tend to keep, because even week to week they will fit differently. If there is a big weight change though and the fit in the waist/hips/rise is just too off, out they go.

From the pics I think they look great, but obviously how they feel on is important as well. Sometimes I get less than enthused about wearing looser
pants that require a belt to stay on, because they seem to require a lot of adjustment as the day goes on.

Though, I keep a pair of one-size-bigger jeans for the days when I feel bloated / hate anything touching my stomach, yet want to feel good and look good. But I don't think these jeans are oversized in quite the right way to make you feel fab on that sort of day.

I haven't worn these jeans in ages because I was (still am) fed up by my too large clothes. These are truly huge on me, without the belt they look a bit like the jeans in #3. You can't get more baggy BF than that... I'm thinking about passing them on in the near future, but I'm not sure yet. I know that they still look good and they were my favourite pair of jeans for a while, but this is really more bagginess than I can take. This outfit was alright for a day at home and talking a walk in the neighbourhood, but I wouldn't want to wear them to Uni or work or even to meet up with friends.

For those of you who have lost weight - how did you decide what to keep and what to pass on?
