The blue was really nice, but it's a large print with randomly placed horizontal strong contrasting lines, and I didn't love where some of those lines fell on my body (one landed right across my hips, calling attention to a part of me I'd rather not emphasize ;-)). I was tempted by the black version, but this dress has so much coverage, I'd rather have a solid color other than black for summer, if you know what I mean. </p> <p>Oh, and the cakes were DELICIOUS as well as a visual feast. The cats' faces on top were made of fondant and were completely removable, so she could save them (you can coat a preservative on them so you can save them for posterity without freezing them). They were made by the same friend who made my gorgeous wedding cake, which was covered with dogwood blooms. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to break out the Anthro maxi dress, which I predict will be a summer workhorse. So comfortable and easy to wear -- slip on a cuff and a pair of sandals at it goes almost anywhere. I might have it hemmed a half inch -- there were a couple of times that I felt myself standing on the back hem, since I was wearing flat sandals, and I don't want to be restricted to wearing heels with this. </p> <p>The clutch is maybe a little too tweedy/wintry in texture for the dress, but I liked the color with it. No one saw it anyway since it stayed stowed for the entire duration of the party. </p> <p>Dress from Maeve/Anthro, sandals Donald J Pliner, clutch French Connection, and I think the bracelet came from Nordstrom a few years ago. And my mom's silver peacock ring. :-)</p> <p>Bonus photo of the amazing cakes one of my friends made for the occasion -- they are my BFF's two Russian blue cats. </p>
