I like good stylish exercise gear but practical is the first and foremost criteria. I need pockets with zips or velcro, jackets with slightly longer backs to cover the kidneys well, sweat tops with thumb holes for hand warmth when starting out, ipod holes so the cords don't flap around, tights with ankle zips, etc. I once fell for a really cute Lululemon "running" jacket in a stunning periwinkle and found it so impractical with open pockets that allowed phone and keys to jump out once I started running. Lesson learned - practical first, style second.

Thanks for the commiserative remarks on vertigo. It's a weird as-my-world-turns kind of experience but fortunately there is a non-invasive effective maneuver for it and it does stop eventually. My dh has taken to calling me a dizzy blonde and in this case he's absolutely right.

The arthritis in my knees has seriously curtailed my running, but I know what you mean about loving your exercise gear. I'm using the elliptical and treadmill more these days, but I still treat myself to good workout wear because it puts a smile on my face. Most of the younger crowd can't figure out why I'm smiling because they don't know I'm singing along to Annie Lennox and Abba:
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only...ummm...64(?)

Lantana, Do it! LOL At 60+ myself I see no reason to feel that you can't wear any kind of clothes, athletic ones included, that suit your lifestyle.

I love that you have shared your running gear with us. I can't run for peanuts but I walk and swim. Both activities are meditations, as you say, so beneficial for body and soul. I have sometimes had the wicked thought of posting my swim wetsuit as a WIW. It is not what one would normally expect to see on a 60+ bod!

Thanks everyone for your support and kind words. :)

For me running is my time for meditation, my thinking time, my creative time, my ME time. I've solved a lot of perceived problems during my runs. I just put them in my brain and let them perculate while I boogie along to the Beach Boys, Bob Marlie, Joni Mitchell or whoever I'm feeling any particular day.

Tracina, walking and swimming are great exercise, as is gardening, golf and let's not forget shopping, the traditional in the store kind not with your fingers!

Hooray! I am amazed how many runners are in this forum. I had a bum knee and weak ankles since I was a kid and though I don't have much trouble now I would be afraid of running. BUT, every time I log on here I have an urge to be a runner lemming too. Alas, I will stick to walking and swimming.

5:30... I have to rethink my attitude and habits, for sure. I only started running this summer and had a break for the past 4 weeks as I simply wasn't getting enough sleep to recover from regular days (house build is beyond stressful), let alone additional strain of running at the end of the day. Perhaps I should try and do things the other way - starting at 5:30.

Anyway, I love your jacket and the tights. Thanks for this thread.

Thanks Dianthus!

Marmee glad you enjoy your workout gear as much as I do.

Karle, I feel your pain as I am having foot surgery in early 2014 and then 4-6 months off running. Have you ever tried deep water running? It's not the same as real running but you get the motion and a lot of cardio. I did it a lot when I was rehabbing a torn hamstring. On the other hand if you've had surgery probably water is not for you yet. Anyway it sounds like you'll be back out there soon. Hang in there! Bev

Running! After 3 weeks of vertigo (yuck) I am now able to run without the ship moving on me. This morning I got out my winter running gear for the first time. How I love my lightweight glow-in-dark MEC jacket with it's peaked hood for extra bad weather (didn't really need the hood this am). The tights are Nike ones that my daughter gave me for Xmas 2 years ago. I love the fit with compression in all the right places especially hammies and lots of flex at the knees and the pink highlights are just icing on the cake. I feel like a super hero in these tights. I do have to just jog, no more than a couple of miles and more of a mid foot strike than the forefoot which is my preferred running style but I'm RUNNING!!! Happy day!

Jacket - MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op - In my opinion the best gear around for rugged, well designed and good prices)
Compression tights - Nike
Cap - MEC

Tube Scarf - pink jersey print (to tie the outfit together of course) Lululemon
Shoes - my trusty New Balance with lots of control and cushioning
