She was all of 6 feet tall with curly, strawberry blond hair and a stunning, slender figure. She wore a raspberry satin sheath dress -- strapless, with lots of bling. And yes, if you looked at us, you would have thought she was the soprano! This was a major event at the Christian college at which I teach. I've blinged out before, but they seemed ever so subtly uncomfortable with that. So I toned it down......a little. I would have loved to wear the gown that Jenava posted about tonight! When I do my own recitals, I go bold! Of course, look at the print I chose!</p> <p>(BTW -- the bass was wonderful and is currently singing a main role at the Chicago Lyric. Guys have it easy. I've not seen a modern machine, even good Bernina's that have a better straight stitch. This was really helpful sewing on the tulle and the silky fabric of the skirt. Still want a serger, though!</p> <p>And Donna, I don't think they posted any video. Singing the full Messiah was tiring, but a blast...and the soprano gets all the good news and memorizes a boat load of bible verses, too! Just dealing with that amount of fabric (esp .slippery fabric) would a challenge to me. </p> <p>I love the skirt because I'll bet you can use it cross seasonally for different performance events. I also needed something formal, but conservative for a Messiah performance that promised to be a marathon. The full, uncut Messiah is 3 hours long, and the soprano soloist sings 7 arias -- sitting in front of the audience the whole time. Inspired by Angie's "prom" post of last year, I settled on a long evening skirt. I found an amazing, wild print, and an inspiration photo that gave me the idea finish the look with an overlay of tulle. This called for a simple top, so I chose a simple jersey v-neck with a twist in the front. I'm afraid the result doesn't photograph too well -- the overlay is a sparkle tulle that caught the light beautifully, and the silk print glows nicely. If I were to do it again, I'd make the tulle fuller.</p> <p>1. After the marathon! A little tired, but still comfortable! The tulle doesn't show well here.<br /> 2. The inspiration photo</p> <p>3.
