Thanks for the replies. I think I'll always have one pair in my closet --- they're inexpensive after all, although I'm thinking I might have a spot for some Pumas -- they strike me as "euro feminine." I'm also looking for a pair of oxfords, particularly because I'm ADORING my BF jeans, which shocks me a little.

BTW -- Jeanne, you're so right about the iconic status of Baby......."Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Those images look fresh to my eye again, and although I'm no longer 21, I think they can be given a more "grown-up" look.

Who can argue with your logic of why you love them? Snoopy has hit a popularity burst at our house (DD and I have shirts - mine is for sleeping in). I too have fond memories of wearing keds and got a new (white white white) pair each summer. I prefer the slip on ones without laces and yes I briefly wore them with the big scrunchy socks. I also think of them as a more feminine alternative to cons and I like them best with light summer skirts, sundresses and more casual shorts/crop outfits - like Baby in Dirty Dancing.

Oh yes, I love the look of keds and got the biggest laugh out of snoopy dance! Ah Snoopy!, he he

keds are ageless, like converse, and i think more feminine! Love the idea of them with a summer dress and jean jacket!

Aida: Yes, you placed your finger on it: cute vs. cheeky. Now, I don't pull off cheeky as well as you do, and I push my environmental norm quite a bit as it is. Flip flops and shorts are king! I'll ry to come up with an outfit with a bit more edge and try it out. I like a challenge! As it is, I don't wear these often, preferring my comfy, higher wedges. And I'm on the prowl for some good oxfords!

Isabel, Jen and Kathy -- thanks for thumbs up! There is something playful about them, isn't there?

BTW --- anyone remember when they were worn with the crunched thick socks? OK, that I'll leave to the teenagers!

I used to LOVE keds! I think you look great in them! I remember pairing them with my colored stacked socks and pegged jeans. Awww, the memories.

Disclosure : I am totally biased and not a Converse fan. I LOVE Keds. I love your memories with them.

You are toooo CUTE. Yes, I am using "cute" intentionally!

I think all forms of comfy "flat" retro sneakers (sketchers, rocket dog, converse, keds etc.) are very current and have made a big return. They are totally perfect for the outfit, so go on do a snoopy dance!!

BTW, You look beautiful in the white/pink.

I have no problem with Keds, they're just another preppy styled tennie to me. I have a red knockoff pair with bright white laces that I occasionally wear, but overall I prefer loafers or oxfords for myself. I think, though, that they do need careful consideration with the rest of your outfit to make them look very intentional and/or cheeky (more so than skater-y tennies or Cons for example). I'm torn about them with this outfit, but my practical side is saying they look cute but not cheeky

OK, there's been a lot of "shoe discussion" lately on the forum. We all have our likes and "never, no, nevers." Well, I know Keds -- the old blue-sticker-on-the-heel, almond toed canvas numbers, don't get a lot of love. But four things brought them out of the closet for me last week:

1. I saw them in a feature in Glamour magazine (so, maybe they won't automatically make me look old)

2. As a teen, I bought a new pair during the last week of school every year. They spelled f-r-e-e-d-o-m!

3. My daughter loves them, because she thinks they mean a trip to the park.

4. They are the BEST for doing my Snoopy dance!

What say you? Matron's Delusion or Retro Dream?
