@ Nancy W - I would say Uniqlo is TTS (true to size) but might fit short or ‘petite’ if you are long limbed.

@ Helena - the last pic is Frank and Oak

I was sure I replied to this but I must not have sent it or maybe I replied on the wrong thread! Anyway, love the puffer for you and predict it may be a workhorse. The sweater is lovely and quite elegant, too. And i just *know* a BF blazer will be great on you when you find your perfect one. Good for you for being patient and practical.

Great shots and interesting observations, Carla. I love that cream Uniqlo puffer. I have an old Uniqlo navy puffer that could stand replacing. I will need to think about a lighter color.

Sorry you didn't find a boyfriend. (jacket) :)

My daughter has decided that instead of midtown NYC, we are going to spend our time Saturday walking around and shopping in Greenpoint (Brooklyn). I'll try to be as keen an observer and photographer as you are! And likely I will wear something similarly functional, although I really wish I had a gorgeous bomber like that to take it up a notch for dinner.

I bought the creamy white Uniqlo jacket after I saw how you (and my daughter-in-law) used yours. Such a useful piece and the color is so welcome in winter.

@ Greyscale - I honestly couldn’t see much difference between the stores. One (smaller) Aritzia, and the Wilfred and Babaton had refined, dressier clothing up front - with just a bit of athleisure at the very back of the shop, and the largest Aritzia was almost the reverse - with mostly athleisure and more casual (and younger?) styles at the front of the store, and the more refined items tucked away into pockets at the sides. Whilst searching, found this:

I like the color palette! And I'm also a big fan of those Uniqlo 3d cotton knits -- I have something like three versions (sleeveless, long sleeve, short sleeve) and I have to remind myself that three is plenty.

I hadn't realized Babaton and Wilfred had their own stores -- I assume all in the Aritzia family? Those are certainly my two favorite labels of the Aritzia offerings. The others often feel too young for me.

@ lisa p - if you decide to copy cat, note that I bought older stock ‘off white’ and not from the 2021 colour ways, which has ‘natural’, which is actually an oyster colour. Although who knows, you might like it.

I’m working on a little ‘off white’ capsule atm. None of these items is the optic white of my jeans, or other white items, but does work with an older Karl Lagerfeld button down from 2016.

A simple outfit (jeans and t-shirt) for a long day on my feet! I wore the old wildcard bomber in the morning and evening when the temps dipped below 20deg, but otherwise it was too hot.

Although I think I tried on a lot of long boyfriend/oversized blazers, I didn’t find my boyfriend blazer. I’m quite enamoured with the look, and definitely have such a jacket on my ‘to buy’ list. I would like a multi coloured plaid or check that is predominantly brown, but with blue, and possibly crimson threads as well. A Zara jacket came close, but had construction flaws. A Theory jacket fit like a dream, but was sober black and grey plaid that was too formal for the look I’m after.

In the end, I was quite restrained. I followed through with plans to duplicate my 2019 Uniqlo golden beige light weight puffer - only I chose an off white version this time. And, after swearing off cotton knit sweaters, I fell for the Uniqlo 3-d knit. There are no seams on the arms or body, and very flat woven seams under the arms for a smooth minimal look.

I visited 2 Aritzia stores, as well as one Babaton, and one Wilfred, and the ‘Slouch’ coat (for winter) has not yet made an appearance - so I haven’t been able to do a try-on. They had lots of puffers (long and short) but no wool or camel coats yet.

Stores seemed well stocked, and for the most part tidy and well managed for spaced out traffic flows. Although leaning heavily on comfy leisure wear, I did notice that the newer F/W stock had plenty of colour and pattern! I don’t know if these are trends, but I noticed:

-pajamaesque suits (formal cut jackets and wide legged pants in silky fabrics - usually in bold patterns)
-midi length dirndl skirts (full twirly skirts with a medium to wide waist band. Some skirts and even some dresses had tulle underskirts for further pouf)
-paper bag waists with balloon, carrot, or medium wide cropped above ankle legs
-long sleeved, turtle neck or mock neck cropped sweaters ( fitted and voluminous versions)
-upscaled ‘shackets’ in unexpected fabrics like tweed or a fuzzy pile
-unusual and bold colour mixing featuring tertiary colours (orange, green, lilac) more so than primaries
-minimal Scandi palettes (winter white, grey, camel, pink)

ETA: photos of examples down thread

This is only my sense of what was new in the stores in and around the downtown core of Toronto. I’m still digesting what I saw on the street, and will write about that later.

Thanks for looking!
