Hmm. I'm afraid I may feel the jacket is leaning toward frumpy. I do love the purple and cream scarf. The scarf or a vivid teal would help keep it above frump. Also, high neck and other blouses with interesting collars... blouses with collars that echo the jacket's would be dating IMO. Also, collarless blouses would be a no-go in my book, as too mousey a look.

I think normal length trousers might actually be best, esp. paired with a heeled oxford (i.e., not mannishly flat). Ordinary pumps could be dating...

It sure is very nice. But my first impression is that the cut is dated. I would store it and wait for this shape to be back. Right now it seems all jackets are either cropped or, if long, also oversized.

I think this is a nice classic jacket, but a touch long that could lead it into frump territory. That said, how you style will be a big factor in frump.

The suggestions above about skinny jeans, ponte knit pants etc will help keep frump at bay.

This is a classic jacket that fits great. It works well for that. If you are looking for something more edgy or UWP, this will not get you there.

It's a fabulous classic jacket & fits you well. I love it in close up with the scarf too. I just don't love it with the pants. Keep for sure & play with different bottoms imo.

It looks like a lovely tweed, and gives a sort of equestrian vibe, or would, with ponte pants and/ or skinnies tucked into tall boots.

I like it with the scarf as well.

I do think that it reads quite conservative, styled as you have it here. But open, with the right underlayers, and a bit of a heel, the effect could be quite different. So it is tough to say for sure.

I apologize if you have already told us this...but what are your style goals at this point? Apart from your screen name, I mean? If you are aiming at a fairly classic, Ralph Lauren type style, this ought to work. But if you are aiming for something more contemporary, it might not be the best.

Shannon, and Adele, I know what you mean. I actually like longer jackets myself-- but then with low heels I'm 1/2 top and 1/2 bottom, instead of the rule of thirds. I have purged all of my longer and too big-boxy jackets, and most of my more recent purchases are shorter than this, so this is trying a longer but more fitted style.

I'll try to give some thought not only to longer leg line if possible--I do have some range of pants lengths and heel heights I can still wear comfortably at work (usually chunky, but that's ok with pants), but also to what other "fashion forward" changes in an outfit could shift the attention from that aspect--maybe something unexpected.

runnerrae and JR--I really should work harder to find some slim trousers that are flattering. I know they're out there, but hard to find, so is frustrating to look. Hard for pear shape. Also, what works with jeans is the lycra, so they can be more fitted and flatter one's rear, but have some give. Very hard to find properly tailored non-stretch cloth tapered/slim pants. So I've tried some types of ponte pants and maybe something in that direction would work. If I ever find such a thing, it would work with other tops and jackets I have and be more updated for sure (at least for now) .

I'll have to give this some thought.....step away from the frump-dom.

Love it with that scarf.

The first picture is so tiny, it's hard to get a feel for it. If you could take your photos closer up and then crop away the extra bits, we could get a better look. Still, from what I can see, I think it would work best with very slim pants to give it a more modern silhouette. I could really see it with jeans too.

I don't find it frumpy, I think it's nicely fitted. It looks good as is, and I think it could dress up a pair of skinny jeans, especially a colored pair.

I love how it fits your torso and waist, and I think the color totally works. At that length, with no heels, it's going to be somewhat of a leg shortener, but if you're willing to surrender your leg length I think you can go ahead. I myself have shorter legs, love lower shoes, and don't always choose leg length as my priority.

I like the colour and pattern and it definitely looks like it fits. But I must say I find it a little long which could push it into frump-land....

I am a jacket-phile even though I can't wear them much during the work day. Cooler weather revs up my tweedy genes and need for warmth.

Here is a RL herringbone wool blazer I found at TJMaxx. It's kind of an unusual color blend for me--I call it "blonde" colors because I think of blondes wearing blends of taupe and blue and cream, and I wear almost no blue (except jeans). But it "reads" as medium brown, which is now closer to my hair color since I have acquired more...ahem...silvery tones there. Also reads a little mossy green, which is not bad for me.

The jacket looks more modern with slimmer-fitting jeans or longer-hemmed pants with some heel, but for work I'm likely to wear it with straighter-cut trouser type pants and not much heel. So while I could use it only for smart casual, I won't get to wear it as much unless I can use it going to and fro to work as well. It seems a good fit and is oh-so cozy.

Also, I show it buttoned but probably tend to leave most jackets unbuttoned. I like a one-button, low-stance jacket better than 2-3 button, but there you go.

I have it here with monotone taupey-browns which work okay, but could pull out more color. I'd wear a teal knit top if I had one--have kept eyes out for moderately priced one, since I'm not trying to integrate a lot of that color in my wardrobe--and can wear lighter taupes or certain cream/beiges that are not SSB.

#2 shows fabric detail with a silk scarf I've had for years, with deep purple/mint/cream/tan colors.

Do you think it works or would be too frumpy?
