Thank you ladies. I'm glad it was helpful to some of you.

Suz I tried to buy some tights/long underwear without success this winter. They added too much pressure on my sensitive stomach and legs. I'm going to see if the tailor can make a snap in lining on the houndstooth pants. I think it will ruin the drape as they are a bit large on me but that would be a perfect solution so I can wear them in the spring and fall too. She has said that she will copy some pants for me so I'm going to see about buying fabric. I'm just not as expert in that field as I would like. Will be working on this.
Thank you for the compliment. I love how everyone's must haves are so different yet we share so much in common.

The not quite rights were interesting to me Sara. Some were totally unexpected while others were as I thought when I bought the item. Need to see if I can figure out the whys on them.

Thank you Nancylee. I had to see if my style goals were realized with the new things I bought and the money I spent on them. Thank you for the reminder to go back and do the whole winter wardrobe in as much detail. I know that I have hung onto things that I shouldn't. I hope that your analysis brings you as much great info as mine did for me. Good luck.

Thanks Rachylou. It's a process isn't it.

This is a great analysis, Freckles. So much work involved, but I'm sure you're feeling much more in control of your wardrobe. The end of a season is a great time to do this type of assessment. What you wore vs. what you DIDN'T wear is still fresh in your mind, so you can make wise editing decisions.

I just went through my spring/summer wardrobe to analyze my upcoming needs...but now you've inspired me to take a look at my fall/winter as well.

I found your list of what worked and why or why not very interesting. It sounds like you were warm and comfy even if some of the items weren't quite right.

Freckles, this is a great report. I'm glad to hear that the green sweater worked out so well, and also the new pants. For the "not warm enough for winter" problem, have you tried layering them with thermals underneath. I know it can feel bunchy. And I don't enjoy it as a rule. But in England it was so cold that I had to, and it worked out better than I'd anticipated and really did keep me warm. It doesn't work with skin-tight pants, of course, but yours are not that.

What your report brings home to me is how extremely specific we each have to be about our own particular needs. Your rink work and related mean that you require good looking clothing in a setting that few have to brave except in gear. It's a true challenge and you are rising to it beautifully. Meanwhile, you have other days when you are just living an ordinary life (albeit in a cold Canadian city!) and the clothing needs are slightly different then.

Thank you Claire. Yes the riding jacket was meant for this coming spring, summer, early fall season. I already wore it one nice day here when I took my pc and computer in to be fixed It was a "standing" event and worked perfectly for the weather and type of event.

Thank you Celia.

Yes there are still holes in the wardrobe. Although I shopped for these things I never did find
-closed heel and toe shoes for narrow fussy feet
-smart looking booties
-the "good" version of the oversized watch
-wool side zip dress pants that are warm enough
-a warm, beautifully made blazer. I have always had a really hard time fitting blazers so cardigans are easier for me but there is something about a blazer that a cardigan doesn't do.
-a black cashmere cardigan with BLACK buttons
-more fine gauge merino wool sweaters with a nice drape to replace ones already in my wardrobe
-wool or cashmere socks
-smart coloured purse
-a black wool crepe pencil skirt with kick pleats on the front left
-silver cuff

Spring and summer not so sure. Last year I was toying with the idea of a casual skirt. Need multiples of t-shirts or tops. The watch but perhaps in a summer colour instead of year round wear. Smart purse. Jewellery, a nice necklace. Dress pants and a pair of jeans. The jeans are a maybe as I really am not a big fan. Coloured ones would be cute. Rain jacket that doesn't look like gear but wears like it (a la Rae). Cute sandals.

To be honest though I would be happy with a few pairs of pants, tops and a purse.

Lord and Taylor Cashmere
turtles – bottle green winner of the bunch, wore to death. Purple wasn’t the right choice. Doesn’t play with skin so well (which really
hit home when I was interviewed on the news and saw it and me up close and
personal) and really never wore it.
Looks fine with wardrobe just not the best for next to my face, should
have bought a black one instead. Bought
the smaller of the two sizes and loved it for its warmth. Perfect for depths of winter with a topper
but not so much for spring in that it shows bulges. Great buy, wash and wear well, comfy and cozy. Very glad I bought the smaller size.

Lord and Taylor Black
sweater toggle coat – pilled horribly and would not have been
worth the money except for the fact that it is wonderfully warm and cozy and I
never took it off and will continue to do so until it falls apart. Sadly I do believe it is frumpy.

Talbots Red
riding blazer – while the fit is off in the waist and
can’t be fixed by a tailor and I don’t really like the feel of the fabric it
was a good buy. I have always planned on
wearing it as one would a denim jacket outdoors and this will do the work. Wore it a few times over the winter but will
definitely get lots of wear out of it as a denim jacket.

Le Chateau Black
skinnies – not warm enough for winter. They add a different vibe to outfits and
things seem not as dated with up-to-date pants.
Good buy, wear a lot all seasons but really do need warmer winter
pants. Need some fine tuning fit wise.

Melanie Lyne Houndstooth
pants – love, love, love them and wore them to death. Not warm enough winter pants but wore them
anyway. Need some fine tuning fit
wise. While I thought these loud when I
bought them I now don’t at all.

Cashmere
and wool socks – three different brands of socks and only
one pair make the grade. McGregor are too large and slip off my feet plus they are fussy to wash. The pricey Italian cashmere pair are ankle length which is just too short for our winters and too thin to be warm. They fit like a dream though. Forget brand of -70 degree socks. Gorgeous, wash and wear beautifully but just too thick to comfortably wear in shoes. Wore them to death though. Wash like a dream.

Ralph
Lauren red wool gloves – they are nearly a perfect fit,
soft, comfortable, warmer than they appear, shaped like a hand, fit easily into
a purse so I just kept them there since the day I bought them and haven’t lost
one of them. Well worth the money. Didn’t wear the parkhurst ones hardly at all
after I started wearing these. Like the bright pop of red against my black coats.

Pearl
earrings – Bought 4 pair dangly pearl earrings since the studs
were such a success. Not sure of
this. Will have to review further.

Oversized
green watch – adore.
Still looking for a “good” version of an oversize watch. The green one is still in working order as I
only wear it out of the house. Need
major water resistant and shock proof for all around wear.

A very good season even though not all of the purchases were spot on. Was much warmer and more comfortable than usual. Felt appropriately dressed and more stylish than in the past.

Thank you Angie and forum members for helping me push my style goals.
