Thanks, Suntiger. I might add a wool coat if the right one comes along someday. I just don't have enough dressy occasions for it to be a priority.

Love that first coat! For walking a lot, I reach for my short coats- either short puffers or my really warm shearling.
How about a long wool coat for dressier occasions too?

Thanks, Carla! Your burgundy puffer and boots are fabulous.

Your point about buying too big is well taken. I'm in a bit of a transitional spot right now, and a bit nervous about assuming a future shape.

The white puffer in the L (the size I have ordered) doesn't leave me much room in the waist -- I'm more square than the shape these jackets are designed for. Getting a fit in the waist means a bit loose in shoulder and hip - this has been my challenge forever.

I HOPE to trim down further, but am not wild about buying for the unknown. If it turns out that this is big on me next year, I have accepted that I will have to buy another (and under that circumstance will be happy to do so )

The long burgundy puffer is also probably too big (although it is an oversized style. It is a medium, while the Heavenly is large). But, worse case scenario it can probably have a long and useful life as my too cold out to care coat that still has a bit of spark because of the colour.

I'm keeping an eye out for deliberately square or loose cut coats so I can buy for fit in the shoulder.

Late to your thread. Glad you are getting a white jacket, since it is a beautiful look for you. I’m with Angie on your having signature burgundy outerwear! (I love my burgundy puffer and have boots to match!) I know form follows function in Canadian winters, but be careful of getting your coats too oversized. I’m actually wondering if you should size down in the white coat? The lighter weight burgundy puffer fits very nicely!

Thanks so much, Angie! I've got loads of winter scarves to play with. Quite a few hats and mitts/gloves, too, although many are getting a bit tired, so will work on slowly updating that collection. The Heavenly Long white puffer is coming my way, and I feel I can be patient now as I look for a black silhouette that I will love.

If my new black boots work out, I might be able to find a burgundy or red pair from the same brand. https://rieker.ca/product/r6574/

I've also got my eye on a tan pair. Neither will be great in deep winter, but useful in the shoulder seasons or for short trips where I'll mostly be inside (ie grocery shopping, dinner out...)

I've got a lot of 'partially built" capsules right now, so I agree that focusing next on black and white will establish my foundation, and then I can embellish from there!

Another vote for the second burgundy puffer! A versatile weight. Make this SIGNATURE. Boots to match would be fab.....but I know very tricky ;)

I think you'd enjoy black and white puffers as your next options - in the right weights and lengths for your needs.

Go to town with Winter accessories - gloves, hats, scarves. Bring in the colours there. You love that yellow mustard (like your boots). Try that!

As for black boots - TOTALLY a good idea!

Awww - thank you, Shevia! You make me blush!! I spent part of my childhood in remote northern Canada, so the mukluks have an emotional/nostalgic appeal for me.

I kind of snuck that little burgundy puffer in there, and you're the first to comment on it. I probably don't really NEED it all that much at all, and it is super basic but it feels like something I should maybe own...

The hood on the red puffer is awesome when it's really cold, but a pain in the you-know-what at any other time. It's like having a small animal on your back.

Having looked up mukluks I am prepared to tackle your post . My favorites here are the burgundy puffers, you in white and your hair!
Between the two white puffers I think I prefer the one without the fur. I like the red one too and would sort of love wearing a hood like that. I don't mind your black boots as much as you do either. Not sure about the mukluks but very happy to learn a new word!

Thanks, Style Fan -- I should have the boots by mid week, so will be able to report back then. I think the style is versatile enough to pass for a bit dressy when needed, and yet still work very casually. As I'm doing a lot of rebuilding right now, this first pair has be be VERY versatile.

Hi LaPed -- the mukluks are such a taunt. Of course REAL mukluks don't have a Vibram sole and would generally just adapt to the shape of the wearer's foot (originally they would have been created specificaly for the wearer's foot!).

The sole measures just over 3.5" across at its widest point, and instead of taking a natural shape and widening toward the toes, as you think a mukluk might, it stays pretty narrow at the toe. Going up a full size might have been enough to make a difference.

Thanks, Stag -- I'm glad to know I have the cold walks covered too. You are so right about the importance of getting out in the air -- walking almost every day truly saved our sanity last winter!

I’m glad you have options for going out for a walk in deep winter. I think I like all of these, but it might just be your bouncy smile. That time outside can be crucial to health of mind, body, & soul. I hear you on the green hat (which I think is cute anyway). I recently wore a fuchsia pink linen jacket and shiny gold silk cami to pick up dinner. It was right after the decision from Kenosha, so I was crushed. I tried putting on a lighter pink cardi with my cherry flare pants, but it didn’t feel nearly as happy; I needed that hot pink. Of course, unlike a hat, idk if anyone even realized what I had on under my parka.

I love the lightweight white puffer combined with the yellow stompy boots. I know it's not the most winter-worthy of the bunch, but that is a cute outfit! The long burgundy puffer looks perfect on you too.

Thanks for your review of the Manitobah Mukluks. I've had my eye on that brand for a few years, but the price has made me hesitate. As someone whose feet run cold, I'm always looking for shearling lined boots, bonus points for somewhat flexible sole and zero drop. But the narrowness might be a dealbreaker for me too.

Thanks Robin. Crossing fingers (and toes) for the new boots to work. They may not be the most cuttting edge style out there, but my goal is some level of stylish combined with some level of warmth, which I think these would accomplish.

And yes, it's helpful to have one 'ugly' but highly cold-rated pair for the worst of the worst.

I like your options, the burgundy looks good to me and the red (agree the fur is a bit overwhelming) looks good too. I love the new white coat. I guess for me it depends on what the damage is before deciding whether to keep. Looks great on you though. Love love love the new boots. I always have "snow boots" that are for the worst of winter and I don't expect them to be stylish but they have to be warm and not slippy.

Thanks, Rachy! I appreciate hearing that the big burgundy parka gets a passing grade. I am looking forward to the longer length when the real, cold hits! The black boots I have ordered are wool lined and should have room for an extra pair of thick socks, so they should be fine for average conditions -- running errands, social outings and such. Maybe not for long walks in deepest cold. I might need to add a pair of more utilitarian cold weather boots for that!

Lozz, I honestly don't spend a lot of time venturing out in -30 and lower temps if I can help it, but sometimes it can't be helped, so one must be at least somewhat prepared.

It pains me to think about it, but I might have to consider cutting my losses and selling the mukluks. I don't know if the retailer would give enough of a darn to go and get me another from the supplier, but it is worth asking for a replacement. It is a nationwide chain. Maynpbe they will be able to find one floating around their inventory somewhere. Thanks for that!

My fave is the long purply parka. It doesn’t look bulky even if it’s a bit big, and it covers the knees, which I think makes it the most desirable in cold! weather. I also really like the look of the mukluks and the choice of new black boots… although I wonder how warm they could possibly be…

I can’t really offer you much advice on types of coats to add .....I can’t even wrap my head around temperatures of -40C....living in a city where 12C on a winters day is our cold!!
Can the store you bought the white coat offer to get a replacement for you directly from Columbia, considering they damaged it when removing the security tag?
As Lisa has already suggested, could the Mukluks be sold and then use the $ to go towards another size?
Keeping my fingers and toes(!) crossed that the boots on order work for your feet.

Thanks, Suz. Fingers crossed that the boots work. Those old boots are the only tallish black boot I could find the year my podiatrist told me I had to have wide footwear, and as much as I have tried to be a good sport and just carry on with them, I will not shed tears when we finally part ways.

I hope a white puffer works out too. You're right -- the higher price Heavenly would not exactly break the bank, but if I'm going to pay more, I start to think maybe I should look at other options. I was so excited about the serendipity that the first jacket I looked at was not only a modern day casual replacement for my old white one, but also on sale. Now it's become WORK. Ugh.

I really like the Bermonte boots nd hope they work for you. I agree you need an upgrade/ replacement -- your current boots are too loose at the tops.

Any chance you can exchange the mukluks for a size that will work better for you? They are gorgeous!

I love the idea of a white coat for you and hope you can get a better Heavenly. I would personally opt for the higher price or wait until after xmas if you can risk it (for a sale). There is no point at all in a damaged coat. False economy.

I do not think the burgundy is "too much" at all. It's perfect for your cold winter days!

Thanks, Lisa -- at least your husband's hat isn't neon green! I really don't care how crazy it looks when it's cold out, and the colour makes me happy. Not that I can see it while it's on my head, but, still.

I agree that the fur hood on the red parka is a lot. The only way I'd wear it would be in -40 when overwhelming my face would be the least of my worries.

I have looked at the Aritzia parkas too, but they are pricier than I want to go until I have a better sense of where my body is going to stabilize. The Cloud Puff tempts me with its promise of warmth at -40!

The hat : ha, my husband has one of these in grey and I cringe every time he wears it but it’s warm and does the job so I turn a blind eye . I’m sure I look equally odd in whatever hat I have on too . Today he made some comment about my hat ( a cream beret ) being the only way he could find me in the obnoxiously busy grocery store .

Anyways , I really like the red parka - a lot - but without the fur . It overwhelms your petite face . The new boots ( in order ) look great ! I’m not a moccasin fan - but I appreciate the craftsmanship . I bet you could sell them .

I’d love a parka - with a good hood - and I’ve seen one I like at Aritizia , but I feel too guilty to pull the trigger . The one I wear for super cold winter walking is really old and black and gross . I’d kill for a prettier upgrade .
