I think it is a great idea! Always good to get more wear from our items in different seasons if possible.

The pants really are invisible underneath kkards. If they weren't, I wouldn't do it I don't like clutter and obvious layering, so probably wouldn't do a regular skirt over pants look.

The skirts hang straight from the hips, which covers any bulk from the pants. The boots are just below the knee, and the skirts are much longer than that, so the pants legs are completely hidden, even when I sit!

Brilliant solution. You might inspire me to wear a skirt in winter, if I can pull together all the right components. I kind of hate tights too.

I’ll be honest I have a poison eye for the dress over pants look, so take my comment with a grain of salt….i love your layering idea but I think I’d go for something thinner that a ponte pant. I’m with Angie, I love my Heattech leggings. They work under everything and truly disappear underneath.

I keep some long skirts for winter wear. Maybe I need to wear them with tights or something leg warming. See what they are like in action.

My long skirts do not get much wear. Maybe they need shortening. Long does not look good on me. Especially with flats. Most that I have are black, one sparkly, one velvet, one wool and a floor length pencil skirt. One is multicolored pleated and is destined for the tailor to be shortened. My favorite tailor had a bad winter fall last year and has been out of commission for awhile. I need to find a new one but this skirt needs to be shortened from the top, complicated work on a silky pleated fabric with a pattern to deal with.

This is a good idea. I have a skirt from Loft that is a light fleece almost. I'm going to try this with a pair of Lulu tights, and socks and boots!

Thanks all! Glad to see others with this strategy :)

I only wear pull on pants now, so buttons and zips are not an issue. I gain and lose weight super easily, plus I need a Very high back rise, and pull ons are much easier to fit. Also, I don't tuck tops into pants, and hate seeing the outline of a fly under my tops.

Good strategy! I would like to see a picture. :)
A beautiful long Winter skirt is on my wishlist since long time. I know how difficult it is to feel fab in Winter. I think that a long skirt would add some sofistication to the outfit.

That’s a great idea, a little experimentation and voila a new option to get through the winter, plus getting more use out of items you already owned. A total win/win.

I like your idea of a skirt over leggings. I am probably too short for this look but it will be handy for many. I like warm wool skirts and knit sweater dresses with a full slip. Whatever keeps you warm and comfortable. Getting dressed warms me up.

I really pile on the layers to keep warm and an considering fingerless gloves for my hands.. I usually wear wool socks with fleece lined slippers inside, flat boots or booties with socks outside. A full set of underwear including at least one tank top under a sweater with a cardigan or jacket on top of that. Then a knitted hat and gloves and a change into boots if I go out. I may change into dry socks too for warmer feet.

I definitely wear warm leggings under skirts in winter. With boots from mid-calf to knee high.

But rarely pants. The reason I don't wear pants is the bulky fly around the middle. It just feels bunchy to me. Though a side zip skinny would be ok for me.

But I have a tall slim friend who rocks this look with jeans under skirts!

Hidden leggings under skirts and tall boots are definitely the way to go. Nylon stockings are so temperamental.

I have worn ponte pants under a dress or skirt - or leggings. I am not a big fan of hosiery and do find leggings more comfortable.

I purchased some skinnyish pull on pants from a neighbour last year. They have a bit of slouch in them and I wore them a lot - mostly with flat boots or platform type sneakers.

I too much prefer summer dressing - for me the trick with winter dressing is to add texture - where I can!

Good strategy! Skirted leggings - why not! Glad it's worked out :)

I do something similar with heattech leggings. I wore these under my tulle skirt for fancy dinner out on Xmas eve. With boots and knee highs! Covered and cosy. Invisible.

You all know, I have a hard time feeling fab in Winter. In warm weather, I can wear skirts, and feel sufficiently dressed up enough for all occasions.

I've been enjoying wide leg pants again, which feel much more elegant than skinnies, but I only have 2 pairs of warm enough ones.

But I have skinny ponte pants, which I keep to tuck into boots in case of snow, but I've ended up having to wear on other days.

I thought if I wore them with tall heeled boots, they'd feel dressier, but still...meh.
One day, I tried one of my long, warm skirts over them. The skirts had been languishing, cause I hate tights. They're a mare to fit, too fragile for my life, and not really warm compared to pants.

Well- voila! Warm skirt + skinny pants + tall boots= success The skirt and boots completely hide the pants And I'm warm enough!

Has anyone else tried this? Or did I inspire anyone?
