Beat those February blues. You are energetic, fit and spirited. ROCK ON.

GREAT boots, and sooooo glad you found a pair of fur lace-ups that look super cute and work for your arctic climate, Krish.

The cognac boots don't fit as well. Shaft is too high despite the good calf fit. Pass them on.

Janet, I appreciate your feedback so much! I can just imagine so well that you would like the Rockports lol, I could see you wearing them too. You validate my feelings about the green boots, but I am going to fight and try more before I give up on them. Trying them with straight cut now.
As for the tall Blondos, I can see it now, it's the sole. It's the combination of a round tow box with a completely flat sole as opposed to the current marked heel that is in now. So... I need newer cognac boots!

Geez, girl, if you look old and fat then I look like Jabba the Hut.

The green boots are “cute,” but I see how they’re not easy to work with. They’re not my favorite, I must confess. Maybe it’s the sort of thick ankle factor — a slight old-school Ugg vibe? Not traditionally flattering but again, what I think of as a “cute” look. I’d kind of like to see them with rolled straight jeans rather than skinnies, just out of curiosity.

The tall Blondos look serviceable, but maybe not terribly current? I think the current crop of tall boots are a bit more sleek or refined (narrower toe, block heel, etc.). I think the combination with the highly distressed jeans is distracting me a bit, so it’s hard to evaluate. Is the cognac color one you don’t wear much? It seems to me you wear cooler tones more often.

I love the Rockports! Find the right topper situation and wear those bad boys! The others look good to me too, especially #1.

Thanks jussie! No, you are not confusing me, your input is helpful to me. I agree with you that they kind of command simplicity.
I started another thread (https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....proportion) just on these green boots, with various coats, in an attempt to find a way to wear them more this spring.

Nice boot collection. I also love your hair. Just to confuse you, I love those green short boots! They’re funky! Maybe they could just be an occasional shoe, for when you are in the mood for them and have energy to create an outfit around them. I also think a fairly simple outfit might work best with them, plain jeans.
Best of luck with it.

Thank you Suz and Cardiff girl for your replies and helpful suggestions.

About my temporary body dysmorphia: Cardiff girl nailed it, it is the dragging winter that is getting to me. Of course I am not fat nor old but maybe just tired.

Suz, the first pair of boots are Faux Fur Trim Alaska's from The Hudson Bay (very sadly not available anymore). I went there in the fall and they had a wide collection of true winter boots, you should check it out.
Isn't it the case that we should have different boots for when it's 0, -10 and -20 and below? A one-pair-fits-all doesn't work here. We need protection form the cold, the wet, ice and at times from all three. Not to count those boots you need to trek through snow. But we also need something just to go out and about in town.
I tried the teal El Naturalista with dresses and you know what? It's not as cute as I thought (maybe because they're only mid-calf and a bit wide around the calf). It's okay but then the Alaska pair is even better with dresses, because they are frankly bulky, but stuffed with faux-fur and tightly laced, which adds cuteness. I will post pics.
Re: green flat short boots: OMG you got it. They may convey a message and an image that is just not me. And yes, the cut leg isn't helping. And... the color is surprisingly challenging to color-loving me. It's funny how the muted teal works so well (especially with denim, and with black, greys and winter whites), whereas green proves harder. Yet, looking back, pic 11 is a nice outfit I might try to rock this spring.
Thank you for your compliments about my hair. I had forgotten how important it is to freshen it up sometimes.

Also, I love your hair! And really love the coat on you in #5 -- it also works well with those boots and would look good with the black ones, too. Or even with the teal ones, with the right underlayers/ scarf etc.

Oh, you have such a great collection!!!

(And you do not look old or fat. At. All. )

#1 are super cute and no wonder you love them. I need a pair like that. The wedge gives you height (always a bonus) but it is quite stable and cushioning, and of course they are warm. Being dark, they don't scream attention to themselves. They are warm yet look a bit stylish for an urban environment. WIN!

What type are they, by the way?

The second ones are bookending to your hair and can be worn with dresses. But yes -- not great with a ski jacket. You need more of a coat.

The tall black boots are a classic that will not date, but I hear you -- you cannot wear them in true cold. Same here for my tall leather Aquatalias, but my La Canadiennes are much better. I can do it in those but not for -20. More like -10 and above.

The teal El Naturalistas look good! I like them with the parka. They are a nice option for dresses, too, no?

The other ones....they are cute and very casual but read quite "young." Which isn't necessarily a problem, and I'm sure they are comfortable. It might be that you miss the slight heel and feel cut horizontally by the "sock" part of them -- plus the colour may not be working with the clothes you own? I am not sure... I suspect you can wear them well if you want to, but I don't really have styling suggestions except to keep the rest of the outfit quite simple on the bottom, at least, and very casual. Maybe to pick up the colour with scarf or toque?

Cognac boots are a great colour but look wide in the calf and also the toe is not such a current shape.

I love the Rockports on you! They look good with that jacket for sure. I would wear them with pretty much anything...

Right around this time of year, every year, why is it that I find I look old, tired and fat*? And it's always when it's tax time too.

Ugh.

In the spirit of trying to enjoy the rest of the winter, and to dress for the life I actually have, I am asking for your help in determining which boots to keep or what coat would go well with them.

We are just exiting a 2 month period of intense cold, where only boots in pic 1 could be worn. So now I want to wear the other ones... but what types of coat or warm jacket goes with which?

PICS 1-2-3
My favorite ones, bought last fall, it was a very smart purchase. It was my first time with lace-up faux-fur boots and yes. This is what you need here in deep winter. Period. I have been wearing them every day for the past 2-3 months and strangely, I'm not tired of them yet. They "make sense" with many ski-jackets type coats which is very handy.

PICS 4-5
My second favorite ones, from Blondo. But they are not as full proof as the first pair. Yet, can be worn in the city during our winters. They are a good alternative to black. I recommend anyone to get this shade, as it goes well with denim, thick tights and many other winter clothes. Yet I can't really wear them with ski jackets.

PICS 6-7
I almost did not touch these this year, when they were a workhorse for the past two winters. That's because they fit so well on the calf. But... even though they are waterproof and supposed to keep feet insulated under -10, my toes tend to freeze if I wear them in temperatures lower than -5.

PICS 8-9
I am rediscovering these El Naturalista turquoise mid-calf boots, and also the tucked-in look with roomier bootcuts. I've had them for 3-4 years now and always have struggled to match them with an appropriate coat. This one from Talbots bought on sale last year now looks okay in the pic, which makes me realize that maybe I should have paired them with preppier outfits instead of the boho vibe I was trying to tap into. What do you think?

PICS 10-11
Another El Naturalista pair. I thought I was making a sensitive, intelligent, no-nonsense - albeit pretty expensive - choice when I purchased these. Then I seldom wore them, and each time I did two things happened: random people stopped to compliment me and I couldn't wait to run home and take them off. So... since I won't have it that the problem is in my head, I think it might simply be because they don't go well with the rest of my winter get-ups. Pic 16 is how I think they should be worn but... this is so not me! Yet I'm giving them one last chance. Any suggestion?

PICS 12-13
Knee high cognac Blondos I NEVER wear. What s wrong with them? I don't know. I can't figure it out. Help!

PICS 14-15
These Rockport looked so badass I couldn't resist. Except... I am struggling with them. Maybe I just don't own the appopriate topper. In 15, a between-season jacket I think would do. But it only makes me half happy. Any ideas?

Thank you for looking and helping me!

*By this I mean how I feel inside. Not how it really is. I'm changing decades this year. All the old fears are bubbling up at times, especially if I'm vulnerable. Also, trying on coats and boots is not my favorite. But it's necessary. ;)
