Thanks so much Carla for posting this. It made me run through my upcoming holiday events too, and think through if I have what I need. I think I do - though I might add that J crew skirt ensemble if the mood strikes!

Kerry -- I'm waiting for Black Friday. They've run a promo every year since I've been paying attention. They are pricey so I really want to take advantage of the discount. I've had them on my wishlist for two years, and I'm finally confident I can incorporate a brown boot into my wardrobe. It's taken me a while to re-embrace brown (I don't love the other colour options, though may spring for one of the sandals in a more fun colour next summer).

Ok Susie, you’ve convinced me to order the BR coat!

rebekahphoto, you’ve also convinced me to order matching Christmas pjs for the fam. I’ll include my mom too who will stay over Christmas Eve and night. It’ll be just over a year since my stepdad died. A fun new tradition to keep our spirits up!

La Pedestrienne, did you get those Duckfeet winter boots. How are they? I’ve been eyeing them ever since you posted them before.

I’ll be traveling for work to NY and India in mid December, then home in CA for Christmas and Tahoe for the new year, so casual festive is the name of the game,

I’m feeling texture for winter instead of traditional colors. Just ordered the Boden corduroy jacket and pants (planning to wear separately), and a couple festive sweaters to replace last years Talbots fair isle which was lost to red wine damage. I also have my eye on a pair of cream velveteen pants, but not quite ready to try,

I just got angry at my closet and organized it.
(I've been in a fair amount of pain for the last few weeks, and just couldn't be bothered to care about staying organized LOL)
I have way more coats and cardigans and jackets than I could possibly ever need. I think I gave up on finding the right sort of tops/sweaters to keep warm, because then I'm sweating to death inside any building. I'm probably going to regret it later, but I just don't have that many good tops/sweaters for the colder months.

December could be anywhere from 70+ to 30 around here. If it's 70, I'll socialize, 30 I won't! Last year I think all I did was the work "ugly sweater party", and went to dinner with family. I'm sure I can throw something together with what's in my wardrobe now.

Coat wise, I need a long (to go over long layers) warm coat- at least knee length. I started looking last year, but ran into the Kenny hood phenomenon. As in, why are these hoods so big they flop over my eyes?

A second pair of tall heeled boots is on my wishlist-brown or burgundy. With both that and coat, I'd much rather buy IRL instead of online, since they're expensive and problematic- no candidates yet.
Loungewear is needed-especially bottoms. Cuddleduds will probably be the answer again, or some other leggings.
Otherwise, I'm hunting sweater dresses-that are not bulky and are opaque. Not an easy thing, apparently. Ideally that +fleece leggings + tall boots will be a winter formula.

I got a blue and white checked dress at NAS that I intended as my Xmas dress. But now I’m thinking I’ll wear it for Thanksgiving and wear pants for Xmas. It tends to be a totally freezing hectic sort of day: pants would probably be better.

this year I did it and ordered FAMILY PAJAMAS for all of us! The Mr and I, my parents, bother + his wife + kids & all the dogs! yep we are going to be cheesy. My dads health is in decline & when I talk about future plans he keeps saying " sure...if he's around" blah blah, so I figured I better do it now! I plan to be enjoying aquavit and salmon in flannel all Christmas day (well, maybe not at dinner)

For the rest?......I am looking at some metallic or furry accents.... I usually find some glam holiday scarf/velvet to wear. Needs to be comfortable, as I am usually the chef/host, but I like a little sparkle!

Maybe I need a fancy red top/scarf? Some Emerald Green? open to suggestions!

thinking maybe Blues/Silvers for New Years....?

I do have a "Die Hard" themed cookie party to dress for, as well as a couple of "White Elephant/ugly sweater" parties and of course New Years Eve......

a few posted contenders from my wardrobe....

Winters in California are mild most of the time so I don't need more winter clothes since last year. However I'm trying to find a few special pieces for holidays even though I'm not sure I'll need them ( possibility of seeing a friend from Seattle this month as special treat ). At the same time I feel the need to update my look a bit in a more modern/dressier direction. Would be nice if I could borrow some of your strength/determination when I'm trying to rebuild my holiday collection Runcarla .

I'm dreaming of a green velvet top to wear with black pants and jeans. Between casual family holiday events, both DH and my birthdays, and working from home, I'm working toward relaxed, comfy, and lush. I'm sorted for the musical at the 5th Avenue, and that's about the only thing I'll be "dressing up" for.

Kerry, I got that navy faux fur jacket from BR. I tried it in the store but didn’t buy it. I kept thinking about it so I ordered it and was able to get a petite, plus got it on sale. I don’t have any navy outerwear so It won’t “split wears” with anything else so think I will wear it enough.

Yes the weather has turned here in Salt Lake City. I've been enjoying wearing my wool coat, light puffer, and some lighter winter accessories.
I haven't pulled out the big patagonia down puffer, snow boots, and waterproof winter gloves...but those are in good shape from previous years so I think I'm set.
I sort of want a new bright colored hat! But I have a large head so shopping for these tends to be more frustrating than fun.

I am sorted when it comes to winter outerwear, hats, scarves, etc. Recently purchased a new pair of winter boots. Haven't used them yet, as it hasn't been cold enough, but this might change any day soon. My new boots are lilac--a light and uplifting addition to my otherwise dark boot capsule.

My loungewear capsule was also refreshed a few weeks ago, when I purchased two new bottoms and three new tops.

What I am looking for now are a few versatile dressy items that can be styled in different ways and be worn at the office as well as at parties. I would love to get:
● A non-neutral sweater dress
● A midi skirt in a jewel tone (Have my eyes on a deep emerald one that I need to try soon)
● A white high-neck, longsleeved blouse without cutouts

I just ordered a puffy jacket. It's the same one Suz showed in a recent post. I've been looking for a colorful, short, warm puffer to wear on my daily walk to the bird preserve. I like the shorter length because I can wear it around my waist if I get too warm, and I needed one that could take the cold wind, too. It says it's good down to 23F which is about as cold as it might get here.

I haven’t shopped much yet but I have clothing from last year. So far I’ve bought one red cardigan and a leopard cotton blouse. Both more fall/spring than summer.
What I should be looking for-at a minimum-a pair of lace up or zip up shoes that are warmer than sneakers and less bulky than my Uggs. A coat that is nicer/warmer than my raincoats or the oversized men’s short jacket. A few more pairs of breathable non itchy warm socks to wear in bed.

Good question! I certainly have enough winter clothes except that I'd like a relatively warm navy blue knit duster--something for work. I have a black one but it doesn't go well with everything.

I always have my eye on some crazy sweater or other. This is because I get bored wearing pullovers 7 months of the year! I bought more blazers this year and will be trying to wear those sometimes as well to vary things.

I certainly have enough clothes for both casual and non-casual occasions around the holidays. Christmas with my family will be mega-casual--I'll probably wear a sweater with a reindeer on it, and jeans.

I build my loungewear capsule up last winter. I am good to go there,e specially since my home is usually actually rather hot (old building with forced steam heat, and I live on the top floor).

My fall purchases so far are: two cotton sweaters, one pair of jeans and one pair of cords, a fleece pullover, and a bunch of footwear (two oxfords, a pair of Mary Janes, and shearling snowboots). I'd really like one more pair of uber-warm boots and one more pair of casual-to-dressy ankle boots. I also have my eye on two coats, one wool and one down. It's been a few years since I bought a coat and I feel due for a refresh. Otherwise, I'm all set for winter with the exception of a few basics: I'd like to increase my selection of wool knee socks and replace my last set of merino baselayers with silk.

I am also putting together some fun holiday party looks. I picked up a really cool Max Mara cocktail dress at a consignment shop; it fits like a glove except the shoulder straps need to be shortened by about an inch. Pics once it's altered . I plan on wearing it with sheer black tights, with both my glittery Mary Janes and my fuzzy Vans, and would like to find some kind of glam cropped faux-fur or other fancy/funky fleece (or even short puffer, maybe patterned or metallic?) to wear over it. I have some other "wants" and things I might try out of curiosity, but most of my budget will go towards outerwear and footwear this winter.

I am going to have to re-evaluate what "cozy" means to me for the holidays this year. We're going back to Colorado for Thanksgiving, but will likely be in SoCal for Christmas. No company Christmas party to dress up for this year, but plenty of fun events. We haven't turned on our heat yet. I'm at a loss.

It always seems to happen so fast. I haven't even done my seasonal closet swap yet. I finally got a rain coat, but it's not lined so I already need to layer appropriately. Ankle pants and all the cute associated footwear are definitely out. Can you tell I'm not super excited?

I just came back from -12C in Salt Lake City! :(

I am SORTED for the next 2 to 4 months for sure - with both WARM dressy holiday and every day wear. NO BLACK!

Whatever else I add is pure creamy cream.

I JUST committed to Boden's bright red velvet pants (like my mustard) that I can dress up to down. LOVE THEM! Sooo gorgeous and versatile. My Gala outfit was was a fab win with my bright pink coat, and I can add warm fuzzy items and boots to the yellow velvet skir for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Still have my burgundy pinstripe three piece suit too. Have the right dressy winter coats for all the outfits. Sooo sorted for Winter dressy, unless I need a gown - which I doubt.

I really need a knee-length puffer. Mine is over 10 years old and is starting to look worn and the down is working its way through the fabric. It's a Canadian Spirit and has really served me well and kept me really warm (even in -35 C!). I was looking for a puffer last year, but it didn't happen. I did buy two pairs of new boots last year that I really needed as the old ones were wearing through/broken zipper.

I think I'm sorted otherwise. No really dressy events. Christmas with the family unwrapping presents and dinner. Work festive lunch is usually pretty casual since it's at work during the regular work day.

I have been keeping an eye out for a holiday top update in stores , and haven't really found anything interesting. I have our annual holiday kick-off cocktail party at the end of this month and would like something statement-ish for that. And I'm with Helena in wearing track pants for the rest of it

Fun to read. And a good reminder but I am not ready for Christmas yet. But for once I am ready for cold weather with two new coats. A short puffer from COS and a red wool coat. That red color must be the ylf influence.
For dressy events I want a new midi skirt. And we are invited by a friend in Spain for the new year, so what am I going to take? Those Spanish ladies like dressing up.

This is a timely reminder to start thinking about the holidays. I wonder if I will be bored with my old fall- back outfits and need a pair of dressy jeans as I have pasted along my old ones. A metallic or velvet jeans or pants would be a welcome addition. I have added a striped consignment sweater that will add some color. It will probably work with all white outfits as I have added a couple pair of white boots/booties. I don’t do lounge wear except when sick and seldom have a lazy weekend morning.
Holiday weather is so unpredictable that I variety of weights and layers are needed. I find a wooly festive scarf very useful, and last year my silver metallic scarf saw lots of action. Maybe a velvet scarf would be a good idea, especially if it matched a velvet top or jacket.

I have a few things coming up and being in the Southern Hemisphere, it will be relatively warm - some nights are cool and require toppers or at least clothes with sleeves.
- Christmas ballet (cocktail dress for evening function)
- Wedding Anniversary dinner (our 25th)!
- Christmas dinner with my bookclub friends (not too dressy, but lots of fun!)
- School Christmas concert (pretty casual I need to survive the recorders playing Silent Night)
- Work Christmas dinner with management team and our spouses (cocktail dress)
- Work Christmas party (casual day dress - hopefully festive)
- Christmas day wear

So not too much on the horizon and I think I have it covered with what I currently own. The only outfit I have planned is the wedding anniversary dinner dress, in Finds. I found some silver heels - they are more sparkly in reality that the photo indicates.

My loungewear (hardest working part of my wardrobe ) received an update later last winter and earlier this fall so I’m set there.

Outerwear got an update last year too. I added a jacket that works for activities when I’ll be wearing snow pants too (tobogganing, snowshoeing, hiking). I also added a dark blue puffer that was a fun, low-cost addition late last winter.

This year I’ll be focusing on some winter accessories.

I also like to add to my holiday capsule each year. This is very casual. I don’t have any dressy events in my life. This year I’m thinking of adding a pair of BR teal velvet pants. I’ve been toying with a BR faux fur coat as well but not sure I can justify the price for how little I’ll wear it.

Good timing, Carla. I have been planning my winter wardrobe for a while. Tomorrow we leave for a 7 week trip to Montreal. :) I have my clothing for November and most of December in my suitcases. I am thinking of adding a long puffer to my wardrobe. Lululemon has an olive green one that looks promising. Winter boots are also on my list.
We are going to the theatre, doing Yoga, dinners, visiting friends and doing lots of walking.
