Stagiaire Fash on "WIW in Winter"

Thanks Merwoman! Getting that jacket (I assume you mean the lilac one, just realize the 2 plaid jackets could also be called bombsrs) was an ordeal, so I appreciate the feedback.

Bijou and Carla, thanks for the comments on the maternity dress. I was on the fence about that look, but had so much fun with the dress in the last outfit I posted with it. I’ll have to figure out why one worked and the other floppped. I suspect it’s because of all the pattern mixing in the first.

Carla, Harajuku is me? Lol. Take a look at my ongoing discussion with Synne about Nina Hagen, or my conversation with Zaeobi on the 53 styles words thread. But it is curious to me how you guys keep coming up with “no rules” when the palette, patterns, and cuts I wear are fairly specific. I’ll probably chew on that for a while. I think what you and I wear is often quite similar, but I somehow make it cheeky whereas you play it straight. The red jacket is one of the few pieces I’ve lemminged, from Ada, back when we still lived in Florida.

So great to hear all the love for the black skirt! When it’s time to dress it up, I think it will work well, but I’m glad to have it as a functioning part of my wardrobe. Now I just need to come up with black tops that I can mix & match.

Nikki and Bijou, I’m glad to hear you pull out the mustard sweater as a fave. We got it for my son, who had to have it, then promptly refused to wear it. It took me a while to put it on, but I’ve been enjoying the oversized fit.

Lana, thanks for playing along. Creative combos is an interesting observation. In other conversations recently, people have pointed out my use of juxtaposition. I think we usually pay attention to individual items more than what goes with what, but that makes sense as a hallmark of my style.

Angie, wow, does that sound like me! Interesting that so many of those pairs are opposite. I wonder if that tension is what people are seeing when they say “no rules”.

Thanks, C!

Sally, I see that “natural” style in a lot of your looks too.

Steampunk, Edwardian, English country, nostalgic—so interesting to hear the historical theme in all those.

Zaeobi, lol @ me in the shorty club.

It’s funny how some winters I’m drawn to long skirts and other times the tights and minis are what I’m all about.

I’m afraid I can’t offer much analysis, but am chiming in to say that your bomber jacket is the bomb. What a wonderful jacket on you!

I'm with Rachy on my favourites, I really like this long skirt on you and am so glad that you found something that works well for your style and not just to be worn to a funeral. The mustard colour is lovely on you and quite unexpected.

I agree with Carla, the maternity dress is not as nice as your other pieces. You look fabulous in flares, such a winning and warm look for winter.

Whilst looking through Vogue street style pics for the F/W 2022 (yes! next fall/winter) fashion shows, I came upon the photo below, that reminded me of your red plaid bomber (and oversized bombers.) Tokyo street style is ‘hectic’ but fun. You might like it. Here’s a link: https://www.vogue.com/slidesho.....shion-week

This comment is kindly meant, but I honestly think it is time to retire the maternity wear.

What Rachy said! Her faves are my faves too! #3, 6, 9 and 16. I'm also nodding along with Zaeobi's assessment.

Stag, to my eye, your style is eclectic, casual, practical and creative. Cottage Core meets Urban Grit, and always Ready-to-Go! I see soft and tough. Flirty and serious. Neutrals and non-neutrals. Pattern and solid. Remixed, maximal, and action-driven! Looks authentic to me

I really like your English country/land girl style with the dresses and sweaters. It suits you and you manage to make it look authentic and natural and practical. YOu do seem to wear darker colours in winter but I think that is natural as a lot of people wear more subdued darker colours in winter (I think).

I do still see some of your summer looks in here with some berry tones, but agree with @rachy that I see less blue now.

Your skirt hemlines seem to be longer too (#8 would be brave winterwear *for me*, just because I can't stand cold legs lol!). But I like them with the tall laceup boots e.g. #16 - agree with @Lana that it looks 'steampunk' (in my mind, that's Victorian & Edwardian (usually more covered) but with a little edge).

You still look like 'you', just in slightly different colours & silhouettes In #11 you look like me though - welcome to the shorty club (Just some more tongue-in-cheek, this time aimed at myself!)

3, 6, 9 snd 16 are my favorites, with 3 being my very favorite. I think of blue and white when I think of your summer looks … so definitely a palette change there.

I see Arty and some English Countryside. Creatively put together but some traditional classic fabrics like plaid, and the brogues and lace up boots are nostalgic/steampunk to me.

Jumping on the “what’s my style” spirit, here’s my twist: If you caught my WIWs last summer, I’d love to hear your thoughts on similarities & differences between my summer & winter styles. I think I wear more neutrals, especially black, in winter than in summer. Do you agree, and what else do you see?

It’s been a while since I posted a wiw; this is a catch-up from the last few months. I won’t try to suggest how anyone else might want to dress, natch, or even claim to be particularly well-dressed myself, but this is what has been keeping me warm, while avoiding the deepest pits of depression (but I’m still cranky, all the way til spring, lol).

2 jeans & jacket, blue loafers. Very basic winter look.
1, 3 My funeral skirt, which I will wear tomorrow to a funeral (but not my dad’s yet, thank goodness), probably the same outfit as #6. Thanks to Brooklyn for suggesting a way to wear the tall black boots with it!
6, 10, 15. The same skirt. I’ve loaded the pix 3 times now; the site insists on remixing them and putting 15 far away from 1, even though it’s the same outfit (& I had them in a different order). I’m sick of fighting with it, am over my time limit for the site today.
4-5 fairly unimaginative ways to wear the plaid flannel jacket. On top I wore the blue coat hanging next to me; this is the doctor’s office.
7 tongue-in-cheek: this confirms my self-image, hahaha. Also, the color of the bottom half this image, right between blue & purple, is my favorite.
8 did I post this before? Not sure
10. Realistic view of me any time I’ve left home the last few months.
11. My son says this is the best sweater for the new cords. I’m not sure about the shapes together. My legs are not that short; he’s just that much taller than me (& held the camera at an angle)
12 Without the plastic carry-out bag, I look like less of a bag lady, but still think the leggings are too bright, especially with the socks.
13-14 I’m still rocking the maternity dress, now as a pinny over a sweater dress. Really not sure about this tbh.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

ETA. I’ve hidden #1 & repeated it at the end.
