I think photographers are exempt from wearing dresses. You could always bring the skirt and pop it on if you feel terrible underdressed. Your top and cardi look perfect. I hope you can keep warm and dry. Remember the ice; no falling! Do you have ski poles?

I was thinking that too, Claire. Maybe I thought this would dress it up a bit, but it's kind of excessive. I'll probably stick with the jeans.

Nancy, how exciting for you! It sound like a fun evening ahead. So I'm just wondering, do you need the skirt to make the outfit more formal? If so, can you crouch okay in it? (I know the jeans will provide coverage, but you still need freedom of movement, and this looks like a pencil skirt.). Do you have a fuller, swingier black skirt? Switching that out would give you the LBD effect, and might help you blend in a bit more (if that's your aim). If you don't need to look that formal, I might just leave off the skirt. I guess there's a reason photographers usually dress like cat burglars, lol!

I just called the event person. My teachers will be on the floor amongst everyone, probably in the middle of the floor, performing, as people walk into the room. So there will be movement all around and it's okay for me to move around too. I am thinking of going with this sweater. Sadly, I don't even have an appropriate dark jacket at the moment....

I am going to a concert at 8 and then out for drinks afterwards - was planning on wearing my patent boots but I think I may have to suck it up and go with my Sorels just in case (we are walking!). Ugh, I think the concert in in an unheated church too.

The forecast looks pretty bad. Better go with the snow boots to be safe!

Oh yeah, good point about the shoes. Ugh, I am hoping I can avoid having to wear the LL Bean duck boots and switching to indoor shoes. I may need to do that to be safe. These boots are pretty watertight, but not sure about the traction.

Oh, good point, Diana! I am thinking I'll be moving around. But not sure if they'll allow that. I did tell my teacher that with this new camera, I don't yet have a zoom lens. Anyway, I'll switch out the white sweater for something darker. Maybe I should call the event coordinator and find out the deal.

PS: stay warm! And your shoes have good traction? 6-10 inches of snow tonight! My first evening event (dinner with friends from the suburbs) has already been canceled bc they don't want to drive in in the snow. Not sure about the events later in the evening yet... But we don't have to drive at least.

Are you going to be in full-photographer mode? As in, crouching and moving around near the stage? If so, I mIght switch the white cardi for a black one. Photographer friends have told me that one reason photos usually wear black at weddings and such is so that you won't be a distraction from the main event in case you are moving around and near the stage. But if you're going to be seated and taking pics from there, I think it's good!

Hello, lovely fabbers. Tonight I am going to an event where my two tango teachers will be giving a nine-minute performance. They've asked me to come and take pictures of them and this is a huge honor for me. I'm very excited and a bit nervous (though I'm sure I'll get some nice shots).

The event is at a nice hotel. It's not a black-tie affair, but will be formal-ish. My teacher gave me basic guidelines (wear what I would to one of their dances) and just dress to look nice and keep warm. Right now it's 16 F and tonight some predicted heavy snowfall will be starting, or already in full swing.

I hope this outfit is ok. It's very functional and should keep me warm inside the building. An angora sweater over a sequined shell. A very basic skirt over some Gap Skinnies. (Why does my iPhone want to capitalize that ?) I could wear tights, but the jeans would give me added warmth. I could forget the skirt--too young a look for me? I can probably make sure at first that the jeans are not bagging at the boot line, but as I'll be moving around, crouching, etcetera, I doubt that will hold. Does this seem like acceptable wear? I won't be held to the same standards as guests but don't want to look bad.

Thanks and hugs.
