Thanks MB and ST. I suspected you both would like this :)

Suz, 6C is sooo cold!! I would classify 12C as a very cold day. I actually tolerate colder weather well as long as it’s crisp and sunny. If the sun is shining, I don’t mind single digits at all (not that I experience them often). But when it’s cold combined with rain, grey skies and/or wind - that’s when I will reach for a puffer.

Well, no wonder you forgot about the reversibility since the other side is blue and that's not usually your favourite. :)

I laughed at the story of the Kiwi/ Australian dressing differences. We kind of have the same thing with Canada/ US. But Victorians are a funny mix! You can some of them in puffers when it is 20C and some in shorts when it is 8C -- it all depends on age and activity level, I guess. Those of us who have moved here from other parts of Canada laugh (for the first few years) when people here describe 6C as "SO COLD!!" because 6C in other parts of Canada counts as a very mild winter day.

But -- it does make a difference to be on the sea and in the winds and the damp cold really does go through you in a different way. So I find I'm wearing some kind of puffer at least occasionally from November through May and sometimes into June! Then again, I rarely need more than a light puffer. (Sometimes with rain gear layered over it, LOL.)

I think I'd find Australia's heat very punishing and would take some time to get used to it. Canada's cold and snow and sleet can be very challenging to dress for (at least fashionably) but once you get accustomed to it, it's not really as bad as it might sound.

Thanks Bijou. Winter is here! It’s fun to be wearing boots and jackets again.

Thanks Kate, Jaime, Val, christelJ and Dee.

Thanks Sal. Have you seen that IG video comparing how NZers and Australians dress at various temperatures? The Kiwi wears shorts and a tee at 28C and then dropping down to 21C, 15C and 8C (or thereabouts, you get the idea). The Australian is in a puffer boots beanie and scarf from about 21C. So true!

Suz, I forgot it is reversible! It is a plain dark blue on the inside. I don’t think I could cope with a Canadian winter. The temperatures seem terrifying. See my comment to Sal above for how we dress at 21C :)

Cat2, that’s unusual. Good find. Sometimes I layer them under a jacket if I’m not in the mood for their particular (quilted, slightly shiny) look. The sleeveless versions are especially good for that.

Angie, you look fabulous in your puffers They have really revolutionised cold weather dressing.

Brooklyn -- that coat is amazing on you! What a find! It's the perfect combo of colours. It says reversible -- what is it on the other side? And yay for Mum's toque -- it is brilliant with the coat and on you!

Like Angie, I find I wear my lightweight puffers a LOT in my current climate. I have 3 right now. My heavier ones (bought when I lived in Ontario) come out for maybe for a 2 week period in deep winter.

Brooklyn, we might need to start a lightweight puffer fan club! My heavy long Canadian arctic puffer only comes out in snow, and 0C and below. Not worn too regularly in Seattle. Even I overheat! But my lighter short puffers are workhorses :)

I have two by an Italian company who saves the ducks. The champagne one has an extra cosy shearling lining for colder weather. Despite their sporty appearance, I feel super duper in both of them. Perfect for long doggie adventures too.

Thanks OG. It’s funny how a little detail like that can make a difference.

Kookaburra, thanks. I wear my boots with skirts too. I don’t know how I ever lived without this type of boot. I wish I had discovered them sooner. My feet would be in better shape!

Thanks MJ and slim cat. My mum made me a jumper in the same yarn. So I can pair it with that as well. You can’t have too much teal ombré :)

Joy, they are super practical for sure. And they also add some nice texture and a touch of modernity. When I saw the Alexander McQueen exhibition in Melbourne they had one of his puffers on display and explained how much he loved their sleek, angular lines. It made me think about them differently.

Thanks Angie. I need pretty cool temperatures for puffers otherwise I can start to feel a bit sticky.

KILLER CUTE! You're adorable in the ombré beanie too :)

I can't think of a more Brooklyn-Puffer than this one! Major score, and absolutely PERFECT!!!

You rock those skinnies too. They work well tucked into boots - should that tickle your fancy...

As for lightweight puffers - short and long - I think they work everywhere at some point during the year. Just so practical and comfy! I'm a fan ;)

I’m not much of a puffer wearer (sorry Rachy). My climate doesn’t justify it. But I do find lightweight puffer jackets useful for wet or windy days in winter.

We’ve had some very wet weather, so I broke out the puffer jacket that I bought at the end of winter last year. I like the abstract pattern. It looks like rusted metal or one of Monet’s later paintings. Patina! It had (fake) fur trims, but I removed them.

I wore it with a green thumb hole jumper and fine corduroy jeans that are like velvet. The jeans look black in the photo but they are actually dark green. A few shades darker than the jumper. Dark green (and teal) velvet are BIG weaknesses for me. These are straight leg jeans but they fit more like a skinny on me (most straight legs do). Much as I like my long baggy jeans, I find slim fit styles more practical for wet weather.

My mum made me the beanie. She was thrilled with the match with my jacket.
