DonnaF raises a very good point -- I also do best in an EU 37. UK sizes are harder to fit on me. They never seem quite right. North American size is usually 6.5 but sometimes 7 and it's never quite as good as the EU 37. In other words, test shoes from different parts of the world since all are available to us these days. You may find a difference.

I have high volume wide feet. Clarks and Steve Madden tend to work well in a regular width in many styles. Some Flevogs. Seychelles for sandals. Coach for ballet flats and loafers, occasionally Tory Burch for the same styles, depending on vamp.

I have low volume low arch feet that are bunioned and wide in front but have super tiny heels so wide width footwear doesn't generally work for me. They are basically 6.5 but I generally go up to a 7 in heels or shoes where I would be wearing socks. My big discovery is that a Euro 37 works best for me because it is a 6.5 - 7.0 and is slightly wider than a straight 6.5. I also use heel cups so my heels don't slip as much.

I can pretty much tell by studying a photo of a shoe's sole whether it runs narrow and that sizing up won't work. Certain styles will also run too large over the vamp (and be perfect for you!). In general, I find sandals easier to fit because they tend to be more adjustable in places that I need to have wider and narrower than the average foot.

Danskos regular width tend to give me the best fit, but they vary a lot even in the same style and sometimes the same color/material. And some Dansko styles I can't wear at all.

With footwear, it's kissing a lot of frogs. . .

I have a wide-ish foot. I love wide shoes when I can get them, but I can typically fit a standard width shoe without problems. My mom, on the other hand, has DD wide feet. I often help her choose shoes, and Zappos has been amazing for that. They let you search specifically for wide styles. It is amazing how much choice there is out there when you see it! Just choose the type of shoe you want (pump, for example) and then select your size and preferred width.

I used to need a C width, but with bunions I now need a D width. Surprisingly enough, Dansko shoes (but not the clogs) work really well for me. I wear them more than other brands due to the arch support.

I also like Sofft, Cobb Hill, Earth, David Tate and Alegria (I select the wide width option on the Alegria clogs and boots; haven't tried their sandals). I wear the Alegria clogs at home; I never go barefoot.

If you haven't read any of my threads, let me just quickly say that I have undiagnosed foot problems and consequently have to restrict my shoe choices to what doesn't aggravate me or cause any problems.

That's great information for you to have, Echo. Now, you can look for some dressy styles in brands that some members have named, in the knowledge that they are worth a try at least --- and also, read the reviews carefully. Zappos is great even if you aren't buying from them, simply because you'll get a wide range of reviews of most shoes and many people describe their fitting challenges. Look for reviews by people with feet like yours.

Your heel may look normal but still be relatively narrow for your foot size. Mine doesn't look narrow to me, but it sure is! Also, it goes straight down -- there's no bump on the back, which I think can hold shoes onto a foot. Anyway, that's my fit issue, and I thank YLF for helping me discover and understand it! For years I just kept thinking everybody walked out of her pumps....

Check out Sofft as well...reviews suggest this shoe runs on wide side and is comfy for all day. Dressy and pretty.

I have wide-ish, short feet (6.5). Wide shoes are too wide. Many of the brands listed above work well for me. Born, for instance - their sizes run small so I often get a 7, but the width and shape are perfect for me.

A brand that I'm in love with, right now, is Atelje71. I don't know if they're going to continue to make shoes, but I've bought two pairs on deep discount. They are perfect for my feet. I guess their shoes are not all designed on the same last though, and some look narrower than others.

Boy's size 5 shoes fit me perfectly, and with my preference for masculine styles, that would be great - except kid's shoes are not usually very sleek or stylish, and men's shoes don't usually come that small. Oh well.

Yes well I'm an 11 w and shoes have gotten much better. Bexar I'm a plus size also I tend to order from places like Layne Bryant and Ashley Stewart but there shoes Tem's to run 1/2 a size larger. I'm pleasantly supposed by QVC & HSN. They carry a large selection and have a generous footbed with reviews

I have a hard time keeping pumps with a low vamp on my feet because of narrow heels. My feet are truly shaped like duck feet and are blocky, so I always walk out of shoes. Laces or elastic or a strap or a high vamp help. Maybe this explains my love of boots!

I have a wide, high volume foot. I do not have bunions, nor do I have a particularly narrow heel. I do not have a noticeably high instep or arch, but because my foot is high volume all over, I still have trouble with straps and getting my feet into shoes. Yet I still prefer straps of some sort, even on dress shoes, because I am clumsy and shoes without straps are hard to keep on my feet. Okay, now that I think about it, is that due to a more narrow heel? When pumps are comfortable enough and long enough in the toe box, they slip at the heel, yet I look at my foot and I don't think it is particularly narrow anywhere! I don't have the slipping problem with anything except heels.

Regardless, I am looking for dressier shoes. I need to be able to wear them all day, but I wouldn't mind a low heel or slight wedge. I try not to wear sneakers to work unless they really don't look like sneaks. I LOVE the look of oxfords, but I always feel masculine when I put them on, despite them not looking at all masculine on others, so I avoid oxfords generally. Sandals are good for this time of year, but summer is not my dominant season, so I generally prefer closed toe shoes.

Going back to read your question again, Echo, I'm wondering if you have had your foot measured. I assume they do that at Nordstrom's but if not, it would be a really good idea to do it. There are different kinds of wide feet. And different reasons for ill fit.

Some feet are just plain wide/ high volume all over.

Some are regular but with bunions.

Some are flat and wide.

Some have a high arch/ high instep that makes getting into shoes difficult even if the width, per se, is actually okay.

Some are wide in front and narrow in back.

It may be that you need to narrow down the style of shoe that is most likely to fit/ give comfort -- and that it's not purely a matter of width.

For instance, I can't keep flats on my feet unless there is a strap or a high vamp and even with a high vamp loafers and most slip on sneakers don't stay on. So my feet cramp if I try to wear them.

Others would find sandals with straps across very hard to wear or booties hard to get into, because of a high instep and high volume arch.

You get the idea I am sure.

I have a very wide forefoot (2E or greater), but a regular heel and low volume feet, which means that "wide shoes" are always ill-fitting. You might have success with the following brands, which feature a wide foot base and soft leathers:
Naot
Taos
Fluevog
Geox
Cloud
Lems (natural toe box)
Camper
Altra (natural toe box)
Doc Marten

Another vote for Gabor. I wear a wide in Munro, but the standard Gabor fit. And a couple colors of the popular Sam Edelman Okala are available in wide width.

Another trick is to try a half size up in a standard width. Sometimes that makes the difference for me.

Thanks for this thread! I recently decided that, although my foot is on the cusp of regular/wide (I had often compensated by going up a half size), I would no longer buy shoes that don't accommodate my wider toe box. Keens are great for super casual and boots. I find Vans great too. I also have the added issue of a high instep which can make getting boots on a trial! I found Naturalizer wide boots great. I've also decided that the lace up sandal trend is perfect for my foot. I've also had some success with Franco Sarto and Nine West.

Also Think Shoes:

https://www.thinkshoesusa.com

And I haven't seen them in person, but I want a pair of Aurora shoes:

https://www.aurorashoeco.com

I know the look isn't for everyone, but they seem to have room for toes, come in two widths and reviews say they hold up ages. I know of them because Eva (E) owns Aurora shoes.

I need a size 5 in sandals for length. But cannot put my foot in most of them.

I found ECCO sandal works for me. I can wear size 35 in Ecco. But if it is Munro, i can wear a 5ww. I cannot wear Naturalizer either. The instep of the Lannas were to low for me. Lots of good shoes dont come in my size. I do have a Mephisto sandal that was 35, but that one was adjustable.

The PG Cayannes vary a lot. I found some to be very narrow and others to be wide and comfortable, all in the same "regular" sizes and in the same color so you may find a pair that works for you. The cuoio color was the narrowest in my research. I really hope that the brand is not going downhill.
Some of the PGs work for me, as well as Mephistos and Clarks.
I am also interested in wider width shoes so I will be following your post.
