I especially love nr 2-you are built to rock the new bootcuts!! BTW both are great and will continue to admire them on you (and others) only. I loved them with western boots/booties a decade (or more?) ago but I am not willing to bother myself- my body changed since then and I am almost sure I'll have to look for a needle in a haystack to make these work again on my plumpy (with apple midriff) self....:-((.

Great outfits - I love them both. I agree that wide legs are hard to style. I have similar shape issues to you except am a lot shorter which makes the width even worse. Not sure full length wide legs are going to work for me.

Love how you styled these, Janet, they look brilliant. To my eye, your pairing with sneaks makes these look super current. I’m personally thrilled at the return of wide legs despite the fact they do not suit my figure at all. So freeing after all these years of skinnies.

I like all of these looks. My favourite is with the R & B sweater. I wear my wide-leg pants with winter coats. I do wear wool knee-high socks or wool tights with them. My coats are fitted and not cocoon type.

I REALLY like the look of your wide leg pants. THAT is how I want mine to fit. I hope we can see some more experimentation with these bottoms. (I liked them in your ‘ancient shirt’ post. How about with the vest from your latter flat styling?

I like #2 a lot too! Agreeing that wide legs seem to work best in mild weather, when the top half isn't bulked up with layers.

I especially like the sweater outfit - I think the slightly higher exposed waist works great - which is the problem with wide legs and high waists for me also.

I like those tie front tops for wearing with high waists. The tie breaks up the horizontal line in the tummy area and provides a bit of camouflage.
This is a great look.

De-lurking to say these looks are both totally fabulous, and encouraging to me as I also do *not* tuck. On a whim I ordered the BR wide leg jeans that Lisap posted about yesterday (thanks, Lisap!) and am looking forward to styling them with some shorter-to-me sweaters. Hopefully they’ll work well.

I wear knit tops that end on the hip. Sometimes if they are a little longer you can just ruche them up or semi tuck at the front as you have in no 2. But long tops don’t work (unless it’s a really long tunic). I don’t full tuck and therefore would find wearing them with a woven top challenging. I think no 1 works well but tops like that can be hard to find, yes? That said I do find them easier to style than skinnies, flares or bootcuts or any other thigh hugging style because, as CS says, that leg camouflage is high priority for me.

Those are great jeans! I love them with the sweater especially, very clean palette with those sneakers and the semi-tuck is perfect, but both outfits are really nice.

Lisa p -- I actually love the look of longer coats over wide jeans and trousers. Cocoon shapes might be a little tricky, but I think belted coats, princess seams, and classic reefers and car coats can all look amazing over wider hems.Maybe there are subtle things -- suggesting a waistline, lowering the stance, a sharp shoulder line, etc -- that might help make it work...

Ugh, I feel you. Let's ignore the fact that I literally can't walk in wide leg pants because I literally trip over my own two feet or my own two pants legs or some combination of the two. Let's just talk about styling.

I love how wide leg pants camouflage the thighs that I feel are a bit big. I like styling that volume on bottom with a fitted top, generally a knit with a bit of draping for interest. However, right now, I can't stand to wear a fitted top because of the weight gain or the heat or some combination of the two.

They're hard to style, they're hard for me to walk in, I give up on wide leg pants. At least for now, anyway.

Here's the issue I discovered today though: wide leg jeans are going to be a fall/spring thing only so you gotta wear 'em while you can. I was out working with an account (who also sells clothes !) and tried on the coolest plaid earth tone cocoon coat for fun, and it looked utterly RIDICULOUS with these jeans . So bad. Only shorter coats seem to work, so , again, not really a winter-friendly look. Which is fine, I guess.

Haha. I know it’s a dumb word , sorry . I too would love to look lean and angular and have no boobs , but that never happened to me either . Further to this whole tucking business , I DO NOT tuck anything , ever , and haven’t since I was 16 . But I’ve found I’m ok with a loose semituck as long aS I’m wearing a jacket or cardigan over it to “blur” any view of my ab area .

Thanks, Lisa! I’m chuckling a little because I’m not sure exactly what to make of “womanly” as it relates to my aspirational style. I would rather look more angular and edgy and maybe even a bit more androgynous, but the shape of my body doesn’t cooperate with that vibe. I was not born with a fashion-friendly body type.

Granted, these particular wide leg pants are very soft, light and drapey, and I might be able to fake a bit more of a long and lean look with pants that are more structured, but then it’s a fine line before you get into stiff looks that emphasize width and aren’t comfortable.

Yes, I agree about needing shorter hemlines on tops for the on-trend bottoms, Janet, but a more fitted silhouette isn't absolutely necessary, methinks. Especially not if you can semi or faux-tuck. Just look at your sweater, it has the right amount of slouch/drape and works brilliantly here. (Also: an extra reason to keep that gorgeous patterned shirt you are showing us on your other thread

I love both of these. The plaid on the bias is so unusual. You have nailed the styling with the semi-tuck on the white sweater. And you don't have to worry about flats being unflattering - your legs go on for miles.

I think some of the challenge is that many of my tops that aren’t just basic tees are from years past, and many have longer hems from all the years of wearing long over lean with low rises and skinny jeans. These types of pants seem to require shorter top lengths and a more fitted silhouette to look right.

Ah thanks, Janet. I love how the sweater drapes just right.
