Well I like them both and don't see them as the same. You look amazing in #7 above (that is my idea of an elegant but practical look). I sort of liked the first pair better for the drama/Hepburn vibe, but that is me. I think you should try both on with the outfits you imagine actually wearing and do a side by side. For science! :)

I preferred the first pair too but I understand about wanting something that’s more everyday. They look great. I love the idea of a coloured pair (that purple and mustard combo in the inspiration photo is fantastic).

ARRRGH! Well, how to convince you that the wide-legs don't need to be a special occasion pant only???? Hmmmm.....

Both pairs are GREAT pants on you, but I believe you can dress those wide-legs both up and down. Not so much dressing up with this pair. Do you have a sweatshirt with a cute graphic on the front? Some oxford shoes? A leather jacket or chore jacket? Add the wide-legs and "Bob's your uncle" as Angie would say. Also- "don't let your wardrobe boss you around!" (let ME boss you around, hee hee!)

I like these two and see them getting more wear because they are casual. I can see the virtue of some Katherine Hepburn trousers for you though.....and maybe not in black....

Frankly I like the second pair better than the first in you for fit, and they seem more your style. But this is coming from one who is still in the last stage, I hope, of eliminating old career clothes and has just moved in-laws into assisted living. A spare and fully (constantly) worn wardrobe are very appealing to me right now.

I like both pairs of pants. The first pair seemed more like the inspiration picture and the second pair seemed more like a take on the Lululemon pants. You know your wardrobe needs.
We are heading in the same direction with our wardrobe. I have my eye out for pants similar to these Vince ones but not at that price.

Different from the others. These look more “you” I agree but I don’t think go in the “alluring” direction much- maybe slightly with the pale blue and with the black tank.
I actually thought you looked the most alluring in the boho floral top!
TBH I’m not in love with either pair. Sorry!

Gosh! Thanks everyone for being so kind to work through this with me! I'm keeping the second pair (jogger waistband) because I am positive I will get more wear out of them - and that is what I need at this time - full length pants that I can wear a lot!

I am going to hold on to the first pair (tailored, high waist) for a week in order to ponder them some more. The problem is, I see them as more of a special occaision pant - something I would change into in the pm to go out and play bridge (which I do weekly and sometime twice a week) or for an event and possibly travelling (which are rarer occaisions).

I need to use my budget to cover highly useful clothing first, and fun wear second. Life isn't all chores and usefulness' and black pants though! My closet and style review is coming up this fall (October?) and I have a shopping trip, and new glasses before Christmas. As a way to squeeze my budget I'm thinking about doubling my fun and looking for trousers in the same style as the tailored pair, but in a colour, maybe a plaid, and build a little capsule around them? (See inspo pics below)

For Lisap - Pants are Love Tree - from a little boutique on our main drag.

If you are choosing, my vote is solidly in the first pair camp. You were made for that style! The blend of the fabric will also likely be a bit warmer.
This pair looks great but the other is just a wee bit more adventurous and they just look so good on you!

Nodding along with Suz - I see them serving two different purposes. I like the versatility of the first pair, in that you can dress them up or down; these look more casual which obviously works for your lifestyle, but do you have a need or desire for a dressier option? Can you keep both?

I think these also look really nice on you. You already wear wide legs with the best of them!

I agree with Suz that these are not equivalent to the other pair you showed, so it's not necessarily a question of either-or. They might both have a place in your closet!

To me, these pants are distinctly casual as well as modern. I don't get a vintage or "alluring" sense from them. (Whereas the others, I would categorize as alluring -- just in a more dressy and yin sense.)

(Sorry, I don't mean to be negative here! I'm wondering if the overlap between our style aspirations is making it hard for me to give feedback -- like maybe I am so wrapped up in MY interpretations of these various words and references that I can't see YOUR intent in interpreting them. If that's the case, please carry on!!)

Well, I see them as filling slightly different functions. Elastic waist pants never feel as "finished" to me so I tend to wear them only very casually (unless the waistband won't show at all.)

This weekend I posted a K/R
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....-style-lab

The brief: add longer pants to my closet for F/W. Try a wider leg for the 'swish'. Nudge my style in a more 'alluring' direction without forgetting my mostly casual lifestyle.

While kindly commenting that the Zara trousers were flattering, some questioned if they were right for my general style vibe and lifestyle. Jules and SaraD8 identified the high tailored waist ran counter to my goals and suggested a slouchier low slung fit. Joy wisely noted that after close fitting pants, wide legs might take some getting used to.

So, I did some more shopping and brought these jogger style pants home. I have to say that from the get-go,they FELT more like 'me'. The fabrication is a heafty linen/synthetic blend. The style is jogger waist (stretchy waist with an internal drawstring tie.) The leg is 10in wide compared to the Zara pant's 12in. (My other long pants are 7-8in wide.)

I've styled them similarly to my first post. What do you think?
