Like Gail, I wear mostly straight pants. I have few jeans. Most traditional Jean closings interfere with my abdomen and glucose monitor. I will not seek out wide pants although I have a few. I am short so too wide is not flattering. Also I am thin so even slim pants look wide on me. Skinnies fit like straights, etc.

I’m not a big yay on wide- leg JEANS because I have trouble getting the right waist and hip fit in most denim fabrics. Denim is usually too heavy and thick thick both cinch well at mid to high waist and drape over hips. If they fit snugly over the hip and seat, then widen out for legs, I don’t like the silhouette that results- I have a narrower high- hip so then I look very LONG in torso of hip is very fitted. This is a very popular silhouette in these type jeans , shown frequently here, and it’s not me.

That said, I did get a pair of Old Navy widelegs this past spring, because they seemed to fit better than most, and at ok price point for an experiment. Full length which is better proportions for me. But, they are too hot for warm weather so I didn’t really wear them. Plus don’t fit as well when I’m at a higher weight. But am working then into a fall capsule.

I love fabric trousers, and the right sort of pleats. In theory I can wear a “trouser jean” that falls straight, so not opposed that, but haven’t found it— would probably have to be a lightweight almost poplin- denim/ chambray.

I recently bought a pair of softer, slim- straight leg jeans that I love— COH Isola style, was not even looking for jeans but SA added several styles to my dressing room, and I just bought these on the spot. Definitely bucking the trends with those, but perhaps they are near “ classic “ silhouette. It was because of multiple aspects of how they fit and flowed through waist/ hip/ plus were so comfortable- I usually don’t like stretchy jeans & feel like you ooze out of some of them.

So I might say I, not considering myself a jeans person yet having 4 or 5 pairs— I am a “ jeans opportunist”. I don’t go looking each year for actual trends/ updates and am pretty much focused on figure- flattery with jeans, across a few types of silhouettes , so if by some chance I try on a pair that ( I think) look great, I have paid full price without regret rather than trying to track down sales, sizes sell out, quality control differences in wash or fit & order/ return.

I bought these while on a trip to visit family, and also noticed how they don’t take up much room packing, were comfortable in car trip, and worked well with my typical casual travel tops & toppers which are usually lower- hip T’s & shirttail hems & jackets for coverage during active times with grandchildren, bending, sitting on floor. I’m not suggesting one can’t be in the current trendy jeans AND active, but I felt I had stumbled across jeans that worked with lots of things I would typically pack, compared to shorter tops & jackets that I do wear for other occasions with skirts and wideleg trousers.

PS: I am not sharing pics of mine, I have 11 pairs, because they do not fit currently (except for 1 JBrand BF pair) but I am working on that :) Jeans are my favourite wardrobe staple. In S.A. I wore them all year round, here they work mostly only in the short shoulder seasons - sob.

High Five MsMaven. I don't like the extra material flapping around either.

Helena I hear you. Never say never :) However I did do these in the 90s/2000s and know I prefer a slimmer silhouette. I do have a cotton pair of wide legs in a pawpaw/papaya colour that I love for mid-summer with flat barely there sandals. So I had a wide leg, high waist pair of Levis in my closet from 1998 that I wore until at least 2005 (that was what was available at the time and slims were so out) that I cut into shorts 2 years ago. That is how sure I was that they are not for me. No major regrets about that. I am now a firm believer of DYOT. Thanks for that Angie.

I am wearing a mix of straight and wider jeans right now. Since my legs and hips are relatively narrow compared to my waist, it is a tricky fit for me but I have found a few I like. Basically the more men's shaped they are the better they fit on me - boyfriend jeans are my best friends .

I really like wide legs!!! I am not short at 5’6” and that helps. My first pair were an Angie pick BR (oh I’ll scroll back up and see if she still has hers). Fitted through waist and hips and then VERY wide. I just picked up a second lighter pair. I’ve ordered and returned plenty more that didn’t quite work. I desperately wanted a while ago the Paige Suz included and stalked and found but they were way too long and would have lost something with hemming. I’ve also tried so many wide leg trousers this year but alas none really fit. I have plenty of other denim cuts too and it’s not like wide legs are my favorite. I am a yay though for sure. I’d be benched if I HAD to choose!

I have three pairs of denim at the moment - all variations of straight leg.

I have tried on a few wider legs but am yet to find my pair. I may stick with straight or I may find them. I do wear wide leg trousers happily and have four pairs (three that I love and one I tolerate). At the moment I prefer wider legs made of a softer fabric than denim.

Out of my 6 jeans, two are tapped leg, one is wide cropped and 3 loose cropped ones. I’m not into full leg, wide jeans myself. Too much fabric on the bottom might overwhelm me if they are made of a stiff fabric.

Wide legs look so good on other people, but not so good on me. I have one pair but I found they don't do me any favors in photos, so I rarely wear them. I am most at home in girlfriend jeans, straights and flares. I also like barrel jeans and I'm trying out a new pair of looser straights.

I don’t buy them Star. The nearest I have ever had in my whole life is flares when I was 15 (1976) and bootcuts about 2008. I liked skinnier silhouettes since the mid 80s- I had stirrup jeans then! Nowadays I only own one pair of jeans, the white ones which are straights.
I just feel more like myself in the slimmer pants (and have discovered they suit my probable Kibbe type of soft gamine better also.)
The widest pants I have bought are the newest, the grey knit ones. They are comfortable and still look smart enough for me so I can live with the fact they’re a bit wider. They are in my wardrobe for warmth and comfort.

I don't think you need to do wide legs if they are not your jam ... straights and boyfriends are modern classics I think. That said, maybe keep a tiny bit of space in your mind for wide legs ... in case the silhouette grows on you? Saying this as a slow trend-adopter YMMV!

I've tried a few wide jeans and find I don't like them. Don't need or want the extra volume flopping around. They don't work with the life i lead. Straight or slim--I avoid skinny.

Wide leg tend to be too high and tight waisted for me as well. Nevertheless, every few years I try a pair and regret it.

The length is perfect out of the gate-they have four options, which is very nice!

Wide legs are having a moment, and they’re fine. I enjoy those I’ve purchased, but don’t feel compelled to get more. I also don’t want anything skinny, but I’ll probably be looking at more fitted styles, while also reserving the right to change my mind.

Star - Girl, I feel you. I don't wear wide legs. I wear skinny jeans, boyfriend skinnies - not tight but skimming. I wear straights and I wear the COH emerson boyfriend jeans. I will also wear bootcuts but that are narrow in the thigh. I'm a long over lean girl. I will do volume on top but I don't feel myself in volume on the bottom. I think people can absolutely rock the wide leg look and I give them a standing ovation. It's just not my look. Plus I'll be in knee and OTK boots all fall/winter/spring and skinnies are great for that. So you are not alone. We all need to wear what makes us feel like "us" It's just awesome that pretty much every silhouette is available so really something for everyone!!

Yay! These just came in from Boden. Worn with a Zara bodysuit that arrived same day. I also have some darker ones I bought last year from Everlane and NYDJ.

Sorry for the crummy pic - that mirror needs cleaning.

I only own two pairs of jeans - both straight legs, lol. This applies to ALL of my trousers in substantial fabrics though - all high-rise & looser without being 'wide' (straight cut, peg leg etc).

My only wide legs are drapey because that flatters my pear shape better than stiff fabric that sits away from the body - hence no wide legged denim for me.

I love the new wide legs, for all the reasons Brooklyn suggests, but my jeans are a mixed bag, with wide leg full length, wide leg cropped, looser but not wide legged styles (e.g. balloon, boyfriend, "dad" jeans, parachute), and even one slim jean. I don't wear skinnies any more.

I think it's wonderful that we have so many options right now at retail. For those who wear jeans, there is bound to be something that works and no need to buy into a trend that doesn't suit you or your life!

I'm still a mixed bag. I bought a pair of true wide-leg jeans this year (to replace a pair that was too tight in the waist), but I mostly wear the girlfriend cuffed silhouette. I have a pair of skinny mustard cords that are super soft and stretchy, and a pair of true skinny jeans somewhere in my closet. Here's what my jean wardrobe looks like now. i just noticed that they are ALL Kuts.

YAY, YAY, YAY!

A billion times YAY!

Star, if it's not your thing, stick to the silhouettes that work best for you, as Brooklyn wisely suggested :)

Here's my current jeans capsule. Most of the jeans are wide leg or wide cropped. Personally, they feel elegant and pretty when I wear them, and I enjoy that. Gorgeously '70s!

That said, I'm an '80s gal too. So pleated jeans and barrel legs are close to my heart. Cheeky!

I have two pair of straights - the floral pair, and glitzy buttoned pair. They feel like tight skinnies compared to the rest.

My current jeans are all high rise (which fit me best) and loose through the leg. None of them are true wide legs, although the cropped Levi’s look wide-ish irl. The Kenzie’s are a true straight, and the white jeans are a ‘mom’ jean with a fuller seat and tapered or carrot shape.

I found a pair of wide legged white jeans at deep discount while browsing B&M. They looked fabulous on, but I can’t envision wearing a full length wide leg pant of any sort during our sloppy winters, and they would have been too warm for summer. They haunt me (and are still available) but are so impractical!

I’ve made peace with the fact that full length wide legs don’t work for my lifestyle. One pair of wide leg linen pants is enough to scratch that itch. Maybe if I was still working outside the home and had a commute that allowed me to avoid winter slop?

So, I’ll enjoy the silouhette on others, but not participate in this particular trend myself.

I’m a yay with Janet, for similar reasons. I’m an extreme pear shape and skinnies and slim fit jeans/pants are a difficult fit for me. Even straight leg jeans and boyfriend jeans tend to fit me like skinnies in the leg (and are often too big around the waist). I love wide leg jeans and pants. My thighs are free at last, ha ha. The only more fitted style I still wear occasionally are flares. The flares give me some visual balance, but I much prefer the feel of wide legs.

But it’s like any trend, if you don’t like it, skip it! I see people wearing all types of jeans where I live.

I’m not into the wide leg jeans but more the loose/baggy fit. Wide legs just feels like too much fabric for me, and they wont be practical in winter

My two new jeans this year are wide leg - comfortable, more forgiving than my straight leg jeans from Lucky Brand and fun to style.
The wide leg pants are still not found for my shape ( need mid to low rise and less volume ).
