Ket - A wise decision to return the ethnic dress. If it feels off, it probably won't get much use and there's too many other fabulous items that can be worn in it's place instead.

Lisa, oh thank you! I am overall very happy about this haul. I really love your feedback on the animal print dress. I was so surprised at how everyone loves it for the most part because, as you pointed out, it is different from what I usually wear. But I actually do love it. Ethnic dress... I really think I'll likely end up returning it. Something about it just doesn't feel right to me even though I can't say exactly why or what.

Star, I agree with you re: try-on. I know in the past if I try something on and it just feels off, it's likely to never or rarely be worn. So I hear what you're saying. Oh the Black Sea! I've heard it's just stunning there. How beautiful!

Thank you <3 Very tempting to model for them, though I wouldn't even know how to go about getting such a gig.

Bijou, I love your idea to pair burgundy with the animal print dress! I was kind of leaning toward something in the red family to make the dress pop more. Love your idea about the statement necklace to draw the eye up for the ethnic dress.

Angie, I am going to try the dresses on again and see what happens. :D

I'm with Bijou! You need to model for City Chic, Ket :)

I'm also with Star, if the dresses don't feel right enough when you try them on again - return them.

City Chic should pay you to be a model for them because you wear their clothes so well. The printed pants are wonderful. I like all of the dresses with my favourite being the nude animal print dress. That is something I would wear with tall black boots and a black jacket in cooler weather. I also think it would look fabulous with a rich burgundy topper and/or accessories. You don't need to wear Spanx with it at all, you look fabulous, just as you are.

As City Chic is an Australian brand with our long hot summers, the lower neckline and cut out detail is entirely acceptable to wear here - it provides a bit of ventilation. I wouldn't layer an additional camisole under the ethnic print dress but wear a statement necklace to draw the eye up to my face.

That said, you need to be comfortable wearing these dresses. If for any reason you feel they are not modest enough, then send them back.

Chiming in again. I have learnt that if an item feels a bit off at the try on stage rather return it. Pattern love is so personal. Btw I am a South African living on the Black Sea for ten years.

What an excellent haul! I adore both patterned pants on you, great drape on these and fun prints. Simply lovely.

The ethnic dress is pretty but if you can't layer a cami and/or bra comfortably I'd pass on it. When I've had a top where layering a bra or cami isn't simple and easy, it always ended up with few wears and in the donate pile by end of the season.

Printed dress is subtle with the colors but the shape makes up for it. This seems different to me compared to other styles I've seen you in, it's more body con and less bright with the colors, a nice addition of something new for your style.

The blue dress is super pretty. Great color on you and nice fit too. If you only kept one dress I'd vote for this one!

Kate, I have embraced the printed pants! HA! They are a lot of print but they just feel so fun. The halloween-ness of black and orange is definitely an issue and I can see why you would feel scarred. I don't do color blocking well. However, the pants being a print makes me feel better about it; they remind me of a bonfire with lots of charcoal and orange mixed together. Love your ideas to introduce more contrast and color with the zebra dress! Thank you for that suggestion.

Star, oh I didn't realize you were in South Africa! How lovely! Your feedback on the ethnic print dress is very helpful. I'm not sure what is bothering me about it. I want to love the dress so much and yet, it's kind of feeling

Janet, both pairs of pants are going to be in heavy rotation! I just love them. Easy outfits, comfortable fit, and fun prints. Wore the lighter tropical pair today and I'm loving them. Very good point on where the sleeves hit my waistline. Maybe that's why I'm feeling reticent with the dress... It's actually such a great fit and great colors. And yet... somehow something is bugging me about it. Love your ideas for the zebra print dress! You, Sharan, and Roberta have convinced me to give the dress a chance!

Robin, pants no.1 are officially mine, as I ripped off the tag and plopped them on this morning ha! So, I'm glad you agree I might try to find just the right cami for the brown dress. AND, totally agree on your feedback about the zebra dress. Even though it's colorless, I want to see if I can make it shine. I'm so intrigued by the fit and print that I don't want to let it go.

RachelNZ, I love a good print! I just wasn't prepared for how bold the first pair would be in person. However, they've won me over today. I just love the fit and details, the fabric, and well -- everything. The brown dress feels like an enigma at the moment. I can't put my finger on why I feel uncomfortable in it, especially when it has so many great features.

SarahD8, I love the pants too! They are going to be my new summer delights! That's very helpful feedback about the density and scale of the print re: brown dress. I am really torn and struggling with that dress. It fits so beautifully and yet, I somehow feel off in it. Zebra dress -- I really would wear Spanx in the summer. I've done it many times; I get very pragmatic about dressing. Comfort is wonderful and I do choose it, but I also like all the bumps and wobbles smoothed out. So I'll wear sweat it out in Spanx in the summer ha! That said, I'm super intrigued to try wearing the dress in the autumn and winter! I could see it being very boho chic!!

Angie, yippee!!! I know I've hit the jackpot when you are all go on a haul Thank you for such lovely compliments <3 I am still unsure about the ethnic print dress. It's so comfortable and fits beautifully. And yet... somehow I just feel off wearing it. I've never worn such a large scale print before, so perhaps that's what's bugging me. I'm going to try it on again this weekend and take a few more pictures. Maybe even try styling it with summer sandals. Then I'll post and see what you all think again for round 2.

Oh dear ladies, thank you! It was such a delight to login and find your feedback and comments. And your well-wishes! We are recovering well so far. A week ago and I was napping 2-4 hr at a time and sleeping 10+ at night--it was a nasty flu. Thankfully, this week I've attended co-op, taken a couple walks and generally seem to be back to normal.

Cookie, such good insights! I think the dress feels sexy because well, I'm just not used to my own figure. I grew up ultra conservative, so I'm still not always used to my va-voom quotient especially in a dress that really shows it. I love your idea for how to transition the navy dress to fall! I will be using that The pants -- they are a lot and yet... I still find myself loving them.

Sharan, oh yay!! I feel like this was a very successful haul and your lovely reply confirmed it. I love your idea and encouragement for the animal print dress. AND... I never considered it to be an autumn/winter dress. So that's a great insight. I think I'm going to keep it. :D

Roberta, I do love the pants--both pairs! Navy dress -- I wear a lot of navy in summer. It's my "summer" neutral. But good reminder to balance out the dark with some light. AND... the cinnamon dress. Good thought on the bottom band; perhaps that's what bugs me about it...

Suz, you cracked me up! I do really love the pants and I'm glad you do too! That's a great idea to try tacking the blue dress' neckline. I will see what that does.

Jaime, the pants will definitely be a summer signature! They feel so effortless. Spanx -- I wear them year round because I like how they smooth everything out. And I think everyone has convinced me that this dress might be better as an autumn dress?? I would easily wear the brown dress out and about for casual wear. For modesty sake, I likely won't wear it to church unless I sort out the camisole issue. It's not too deep it's just very open at the bust, where you could look down and see everything. We kneel for communion, which means the boobage would be on display. The sleeves on this sucker make it pretty impossible to wear a jacket/topper over it. Maybe I can tack some pretty coordinating brown lace at the top to wrap things up a bit...

SW Ann, thank you! I am falling in love with pants no. 1! Your suggestion for the dress hem is a good one. My only issue is it will leave the dress at an awkward length for me: right at the widest part of my calf. But I'm still keeping your idea on the table! I really want the brown dress to work.

WOW, Ket!

My first reaction is that I love it all on you! I'm also nodding along with Sharan and Suz. (And hope you feel 100% soon).

Both pairs of pants are KILLER. Sooooo flattering and summery!!! Don't put them in the dryer. You will lose their perfect fit ;)

I LOVE the fit of the dresses! From my screen, the fits are perfect and very YOU! You wear them all beautifully.

The ethnic dress poses a problem in terms of modesty without a camisole. That would be the dealbreaker IMO, unless you find a solution that makes you feel comfortable. I'm with Star on the nature of African prints like that. To my eye - 100% works!

If you wear brown shoes with the blue dress and brown tank - modesty issue sorted!

I like both pairs of pants! Maybe even the first ones a little better.

The first/ethnic print dress -- I think I prefer you in smaller scale or at least denser patterns. And I agree with Janet re: the sleeves, which also seem a bit too ingenue for you, to my eye.

I really like the "low energy zebra" dress but the practicality does seem an issue (where and in what seasons are you going to wear it, and would you REALLY choose to put the spanx on rather than choose something else that is maybe easier to wear?)

Blue dress seems like an easy no-brainer!

The pants both look great to me, I really like the boldness of the patterns so as long as your comfortable with that they could be a signature summer style!

The dresses all give slightly different vibes but it sounds like each could work with a bit of adjustment and I don't think that blue circle on the hem is an issue, it just seems part of the pattern to me.

My first reaction before reading your notes or anyone else's was yes, no, yes, no, yes :)

After more thoughts, I love the print on #1 pants. Great colors for you and not too dark for summer. The print on the second pair of pants is dark to me and not my favorite but that is my own bias, not a reflection of the fit for you. I can see both of these being very useful for easy summer outfits.

Love the print of the first dress, again really nice colors for you and such a flattering shape. I think it would be fine with the hit of a cami underneath. The animal print dress seems a little colorless for you. I do love it though and agree that with some summer color that could make a big difference. The navy dress is beautiful and I love that color on you. It has a nice flowy shape that would be fun for spring and summer.

I think both pants are great and they look breezy and easy to style for summer (when all else fails, a black or white tee or tank are good fallbacks).

I’m less sure of the dresses. I like the colors of the first one on you, but the sleeve puts me off — may just be my personal bias, but I don’t love the way it poufs out into a wide point at your waistline. I’d be curious to see the sleeve shortened.

I love the style of the animal print dress on you, so flattering! But the color and the way you describe needing under layers for it gives me pause. It does not seem like an easy summer dress at all. If you are ok with it for the cooler transitional seasons, I think it’s great. The idea of a slip or spanx in summer makes me feel claustrophobic. I wonder if it could be dyed (like a Brooklyn project!) for a colorway that works better for you.

I like the blue dress for you!

Palm tree patterned pants are my favourite! All the rest are good. The blue dot at the bottom of the dress does not draw my attention. Maybe I am accustomed to African prints, being from South Africa. It is their nature to be inconsistent, it is part of the artwork IYKWIM.

I like both the pants on you, but #1 is a lotta print, so you have to be okay with that. I love the dark brown and forest green colors in that first print, which help toughen up the lighter colors. Looks great with the brown top you're wearing.

My reservation with the 2nd pair of pants is purely personal, so feel free to ignore—I just can't wear orange and black together. That combo always reads Halloween to me, no matter the print. I wore an orange sweater with black jeans once, and it scarred me forever. That said, I really do like the cut of those pants and they look good on you.

I'm a spanner when it comes to the zebra print dress. It's a lovely cut, and fits you well, but that low-key colorway, with nothing to break up the midi length of the dress, doesn't show off your own beautiful high contrast coloring. Maybe with makeup, shoes and bag, it would be a slam dunk.

The other dresses I really like. While I can't not see the circle at the bottom of the first dress now that your friend pointed it out, it doesn't bother me, and if it doesn't worry you, I'd sure keep it. I like the print, and the neckline is very flattering on you. The third dress is a lovely summer dress. Beautiful color on you.

I like all of it. I really love the first pair of pants and think you look great in them. As the the "blue circle" at the bottom of the dress, you could cut that off, and have a shorter dress. I don't know your climate, and how they adapt for summer, so you will need to judge that.

I really like both wide leg pants on you and if you had to choose it would come down to colors you want to wear on top and what works best with them. Or keep both and let it be a sort of summer signature.
The first dress has great sleeves and neckline. Would you wear it to places apart from church? The natural fibers are a big plus. It is hard to say about the pattern - it didn't bother me in the photos.
I actually really like the zebraish print dress although I am not sure I could commit to Spanx, especially in the summer. Maybe in cooler weather with a topper?
The blue dress sound win/win and looks great!

I like every one of these! I actually really love the first pair of pants on you, and definitely the palm tree ones as well. If you can keep both, well....I'd do it!

Love the animal print dress on you. I think with makeup and a bit of sun on your skin (and a few days without sickness) the colour will feel less blah to you. And the cut/ style is terrific and versatile.

I love the blue on you also. I hear the issue about a camisole -- that limits its summer wearability. I wonder if you can tack the neckline shut to where. you'd like without spoiling the fit?

The only one I'm less enthusiastic about is the the ethnic print dress, for the reasons Roberta gave. But the colour is great.

Hope everyone is feeling better at your place!

Love the pants! I would wear these all summer long. I understand your friend's comment on the ethnic print dress. For me, its the band along the hem - it pulls the eye down. But it is a great print and the cinnamon brown is a really good color on you.

I agree with Cookie about the animal print dress. It is very flattering, and because of the long sleeves and midi style, not "too much" for any environment. I think you could easily wear this in cool weather too.

On the fence about the blue dress. It is a wonderful style, but kind of dark for summer. And if you have to wear a camisole, that adds a layer of warmth. Natural fibers are tough to find, though.

I see nothing but winners here, Ket. I love both pairs of pants on you, full stop. I think they both look good with the brown cami, too. Just add a necklace, sandals, and you're good to go.

I also like all the dresses. Though I agree with you on the low energy of the color of the one in 8-10. But it's such a beautiful fit on you. With your skills at makeup, I think you can strike the right color balance to make it a hit. Strikes me as more of a fall dress, really, not one for hot days with the long sleeves, so the fact that it's polyester might not be so bad!

Love those dramatic sleeves on the brown and purple dress, and navy cotton one is just such a pretty, breezy, carefree style.

Oh no, this awful flu is really getting around! I’m sorry you were laid low.
My definite favorite here is the animal print dress. I get what you mean about the color but the cut is so beautiful on you. I guess you could call it sexy, but it’s also completely appropriate everyday life, in my opinion. Like you’re more a sexy woman wearing a dress than a woman wearing a sexy dress.

I also really like the blue dress and can see it with boots and a suede jacket or something for fall, not just summer. Envisioning with some kind of boho embroidered bag. Lovely.

Jury is out on the print dress. That too might be good with boots? It’s an interesting cut and cool print and maybe we need more pics.

The first pants are A LOT, I must admit. I’m sure you can carry them off but I prefer the second pair.

Hello dear fab friends <3 We had influenza A. I finally surfaced this week, after 2.5 weeks of misery. Anyway, would love your sincere feedback on my latest summer clothing haul! What do you think??

All items are from City Chic and were on huge sale. City Chic is based in Australia. While they do honor the seasons here in the US, they also have great end-of-season sales based on AUS seasons. Each of these items were $16-40/each! I hate to say this but... I just cannot sew for that.

Try-on notes. I did not try-on any of these clothes with makeup or support garments such as Spanx or slip. Also, I didn't try on with summer sandals/shoes. This was a quick try-on due to recovering energy and a sinus headache.

For me, the wins are palm tree pants, nude dress, and navy dress. I'm on the fence about tropical print pants and ethnic print dress. What I bought feels like a good mix of breezy-easy and hey-hey-vavoom.

Photos 1-2 Tropical print pants
Pros: Beautiful tailoring and shape. High-waist paperbag waist is nicely shaped with a tailored zipper and button closure, and a really nice string belt. Pockets! Great fabric in a natural fiber blend.
Cons: the colors seem possibly spring season, so not sure on that. Print too large or busy for me?? I think these will be better worn with a toasted peach or cream top vs the brown cami in photos.

These pants were all of $16. Really cheap for such good quality. So, kind of thinking of making them work. It's hard for me to find pants that both fit and look flattering on me -- especially for summer.

Photos 3-4 Palm tree print pants
Pros: Beautiful shape and drape, even for wide-leg. Super comfortable shirred waist with fabric ties at front. Pockets!! Great fabric in natural fiber blend.
Cons: maybe the full, wide leg adding excess visual width to my body. However, the shape is very breezy and comfortable, so it's a tiny con.

Photos 5-7 Ethnic print dress
Pros: Beautiful shape and lovely tailoring, including a full lining. Both dress and liner are natural fibers.
Cons: Low neckline doesn't feel appropriate for church; a cami underneath could look/feel strange. Not sure on the print, though I can't put my finger on why. A friend says despite the color being great on me, all she can stare at is the blue circle at the bottom hem. I kind of agree. But then is it really that bad and will everyone else feel that way??

Photos 8-10 Nude animal print dress
I purchased this dress as a wild card, out of curiosity.
Pros: lovely bias cut. Print is very surprisingly non-fattening (if that makes sense). The cut seems really good on me, even though I feel very "look at me" in it. Because well... it's very "hey hey" isn't it?
Cons: The color feels very low energy to me, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. It's between nurturing and blah to me. No pockets, though it's a very sexy dress, so it's maybe not meant for schlepping around with keys in the pockets. Both liner and dress are polyester, which could be uncomfortable in the summer. Ditto for the long sleeves. Will definitely require Spanx.

The tag caught and popped off during trying on, so I might be stuck with it. I can save the dress by wearing a full-length cotton slip so I'm not swimming in sweaty poly when it's 95F outdoors.

Photos 11-13 Navy beach/boho dress
Pros:Natural fibers. Lovely, lovely cut. The ruffled/gathered skirt part starts below the widest part of the hip so as not to add width to hips; that is superb, thoughtful designing. It's a nice, easy summer dress.

Cons: very low neckline, but the dress looks fine worn with a camisole underneath it.
