Thank you for the replies and encouragement! I still waffle a bit with the booties top width but they otherwise appear to be a good pair of "gateway booties"--I would have to decide if I'd allow myself another, slimmer pair as well, if I find them.

I need help to re-train my "eye" for these. I am still liking how lower-vamp shoes look, in terms of leg line, but I will never wear any high heel, so that means lower heels can look frumpy; and then on the other hand, I worry that wearing booties the wrong way will make me look like I'm trying to hard to be young and trendy. Shouldn't fret so much, I suppose.

There seem to be different philosophies on bootie width at the top. Some prefer them snug, with no gap. Others prefer the gap, thinking it makes the ankles look narrower.

I actually have both types and prefer them for different purposes. The ones that are snug at the top give a more streamlined appearance which can be good for dresses....but in fact, I almost prefer them for pants, because it is easy to get the skinny pant leg around them.

The ones with a gap look a bit more casual to my eye, especially with a lower heel. I do think it works if you tie the tights colour to the bootie as you have done. It DEFINITELY makes an outfit look more current, which for women of our age is a really good thing, IMO. Just a simple pencil skirt and jacket immediately become more contemporary looking and fresh. So I say if the comfort factor is there, go for it. But of course try the Munros as well. Angie has recommended that brand in the past.

The Olivia Moon blazer looks great! And I am honoured to be a partial inspiration! I actually don't think it looks bad with this skirt at all, at least in the picture, and it will certainly work with pants. Do you like the quality?

Black jacket looks great, too, from what I can see. Ditto the skirt.

You did brilliantly in your foray to the big mall!! Congratulations!

I think the boots look great, I have the SE Petty's and my gap looks like yours. I spotted those at Nordies today and really like that the sole is dark, wish mine were. Loving the Olivia Moon jacket, such a pretty color for you and can see how this will be fun to play with in your closet Like the lapel-less jacket, too.

I realize this isn't answering your questions, but I love these finds, you look terrific! #5 is my favorite, and you're right, you're totally channeling Suz. Very stylish!

Here are some of the results of my adventure in the Big Mall. It was a bit overwhelming as I would not be returning to the area any time soon.
However, here are some photos--not specially styled and sorry, my current photography method leaves much to be desired:

#1 & 2 , trying the Steve Madden Prizze bootie. So far it has been the most comfortable of the likely contenders (the SE Petty did not work for me) --for current comfort/stability purpose I need the full stacked heel (even lower would be better) and not a tapered or higher heel.

Question for YLF: Is this how it should look? Is top of the bootie too wide--too much stem in flower pot? I am so way not accustomed my legs sticking out of these, but do like the idea that the booties, while to me look weird, are more comfortable than pumps or most ballet flats with skirts, so this is a possible work look, with tights and styling of skirt and top proportions.
Also spotted Munro "Veronica" on-line and am interested in case it fits "slimmer" at the ankle.

#3: Olivia Moon fuschia unlined ruched sleeve blazer, for fun. Would not wear with this skirt, but it goes well over pants.

#4: Random no-lapel black jacket I think will work well with dresses, more dressy than collared jacket but still tailored. Doesn't show very nicely in photo, though!

#5 AT straight or pencil skirt--I think I may have to have it taken up in back waist to get rid of slight bunching of fabric--it fits well otherwise and goes with a lot of stuff but that little wrinkly thing annoys me .

Also got a Munro black short boots for pants, not shown. Haven't had time to try on "at home" for final verdict. And, a VC wrap top and Halogen peplum top but have decided need to size up/down and so will order and then re-evaluate.
