Yes, the one Kari posted is the one I got. Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies! I guess I'm not very bold with color combinations that aren't the usual, because I'd never think to try most of your suggestions. But I will be openminded, keep the skirt for now, and do a dig through my closet to try out some new combos.

Also adding more to the purple mix: navy goes beautifully with purple for some tonal dressing; and I'm seconding green. Also, don't dismiss burgundy red and purple! More tonal dressing, the other way on the wheel. Also tan. And pink!

OK, maybe it's just my color-mixing craziness, but I don't see purple as a limiting color. This is the skirt you took home, right?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/se.....rl=Apparel

Off the top of my head: teal or magenta would look lovely. Denim/chambray, of course. I even like pairing a muted pumpkin orange or chartreuse pieces, or cognac leather with my purple dress that's in a similar (slightly more saturated) hue. And animal prints look great with purple!

I'm not sure what color your skirt is, but I have a purple pencil skirt that I have gotten a LOT of wear out of. Here is a link to my outfits:

http://outfitdiary.blogspot.co.....il%20skirt

I like wearing it with taupe, cream, white, yellow, brown, pink, etc.

Laura, I'm not sure what shade of purple your skirt is--or the other items you mention here--but your picks sound like good ones! I immediately envisioned the yellow-ish sweater with the purple skirt and the taupe jacket with the purple skirt. I like green with purple--sage and eggplant is one of my favorite combinations. If you start to experiment with the purple skirt, you may find a lot of nice, unexpected pairings in your closet!

Thought of some things that I did try on but didn't buy, might be useful for others, still Encore/plus:

the Foxcroft woven button-front shirts were cute, a little boxy on me through the midsection so may be good if you're more of an apple. The collar and neckline had an unusual design. The black with white dots was very cute.

the knitted chocolate brown skirt with the varied ribbing was also very nice, and if you are autumn coloring there were several options to pair with it - a multistripey cardigan in brown, orange, and yellow, and layering tanks to go under, as well as a boucle pencil skirt in the same kind of colorway.

There were some NYDJ and Kut pants including one with faux leather trim on the pockets which was kinda like ponte skinnies.

There was a really great jacket in a black and white tweed with leather trim and a kind of motorcycle jacket cut with a zipper - the lady who was browsing at the same time as me snagged it in 'our' size and I never even got to try it on

I mentioned the Sejour ponte skirts in purple, they also came in teal; there was also a ponte with leather side panels skirt

There was a sleeveless shell with an exposed zipper in an orange or a houndstooth print; it was too baggy for me

There was a heathered gray suit option, with a skirt or pants, iirc.

To be honest I wasn't that impressed. Maybe that was because it was my first year doing preselection and I only looked at the Encore department. There just wasn't that much to choose from - maybe 20 unique items, and none of them discounted to a price that felt like a real bargain. The quality was very good and if I were someone who needed to rebuild their entire wardrobe this would be a great option.

I didn't end up having time to ask about seeing any of the shoes, and I've filled up a shopping cart on the Nordstrom site with pairs I'd like to try. Now I'm deciding whether to order them all or just a couple.

But, what I did get -

the Sejour purple knit pencil skirt, which I'm pretty sure is going back although it fits well, because I don't think it would be that versatile a color for a bottom in my wardrobe (what else can you wear with it but black and gray anyway?)

a Nic & Zoe cardigan in a heathered yellow which I really like the fit of, but am totally not sure about the color of, because I rarely wear yellow

and the taupe leather jacket which is currently sitting in the back of my closet waiting for my Calvinist sticker shock to wear off before I can evaluate its merits and flaws accurately

Hopefully I'll have some time during daylight hours soon to take some pics and post a K/R. Off to read everyone else's results!
