<p><b>Sally</b>, I"m super intrigued by the tunic you showed me! I will keep an eye out for it. I'm actually eyeing it for summer, as I don't wear a ton of sleeveless items or jackets (to warm them) in the winter.&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div><b>suntiger</b>, I really agree! sometimes I lose sight of this. I went through a very.... hmm... natural, rustic phase?? I don't know why. I wanted to be heaped in Icelandic sweaters, full long skirts, and the like. The sweaters are likely fine (paired with dressier things). But the rest started getting too campy, and kooky art teacher. I LOOVE some "kooky art teacher" vibe very much. But it can also go toooo kooky I feel. Anyway, still finding the right vibe-ola.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Firecracker</b> (or do you prefer Sharan?), I feel you on this. Even though we need opposite lines, we are sensing the same thing in our clothing and style journeys. &lt;3&nbsp;</div>

<p>Old, my dear fab friends! Thank you for such a lovely, lovely reception of praise and joy for my new clothes! The weekend and week got hectic and I wasn't able to check back until now.&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>I really hear your ideas, <b>kkards, MsMaven, RobinF, Angie, Joy, Dee, Sally,</b> about how to protect my clothes (I do have an apron!), and enjoying my clothes everyday. So I will be doing that!&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I've had a health dip, so I admit to just needing some cozies these last couple days. But I cannot wait to wear these all! We are celebrating my birthday in another week or so, and I am trying to choose between the copper sweater or black blouse. We are taking a day trip and walking about in a new little town to celebrate. So decisions, decisions. &nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Another City Chic Haul is coming... I bought more under the guise of free shipping. (Are we all laughing now?) So will share that once it arrives.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>hugs and love -- Ket</div>

<p>Super late to this post. But I want to say YAY for finding a brand that works for you! &nbsp;<br /><div>Re wearing the “good” stuff. &nbsp;I’ve found that if you do it day after day it gets easier, lol. &nbsp;I find myself reminding myself that I can look nice and feel nice, or I can “protect” my clothing. Me or the clothes. Most of the time “me” wins &nbsp; You should win vs the clothes. &nbsp;You bought them because you liked them and they made you feel good, so let them out to do their job.&nbsp;</div>

<p>You nailed it- each of your new pieces are just killer-and don't find these too dressy for wearing them on weekdays-other than perhaps the black blouse. My fave is the dress and the copper sweater--both very interesting pieces.

<p>Lovely items and beautiful, compelling thought process. Also love Cardiff Girl’s response! I will also quote Angie here… now that you’ve found items that clearly bring you joy, ‘wear the heck out of them!’.<br />
Do you have a nice apron to protect your clothes? Could be quite retro/sexy ;)<br />
As for pencil skirts, maybe try some high quality lined suiting (if such a thing still exists?) Maybe Talbots? With your height the length may be good or you might consider getting them altered (maybe the right store will have a tailor), to make them a bit more Joan and a little less conservative lawyer.</p>
<p>Interesting that you mention Christina Hendricks, as I recall reading an interview with her where she said that early in her acting career she struggled to keep her weight in the acceptable Hollywood range of the time, but didn’t get a lot of roles. She equated her subsequent success with embracing her natural body type.

<p><div>These pieces are all super fab on you. Yes, the fit of the tie-front sweater is perfect! So gorgeous on you. That little opening will be there, no matter what size--it's just an element of the design. Lots of wisdom in this post, and this bit is one that I want to hold onto: <i>"I am trying to honor my body shape instead of hide it. . . . [C]onstantly fighting to make certain cuts and styles fit on my body shape<br />
is actually higher maintenance in practice than wearing more glamorous<br />
clothing."</i></div><div>For me, the principle rings so true, though I'm at home in straighter styles. Trying to go for elements that I think of as "pretty"--flowy, drapey, flouncy--just doesn't go so well with my body.<i><br /></i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i><br /></i> </div></p>

<p>It’s all good on you…the pics remind me of old movie photos of Sophia Loren trying to look bad in the ruins of her village. She could not look bad.&nbsp;<br />Only quibble is the high neck red blouse. Love the red, the tighter &nbsp;neckline is not as flattering as the more open styles?<br />I have lived in ongoing construction before, its a lot of dust, and the overalls would look fab, why not.&nbsp;<br />Cardiff girl recommends pencil skirts in forgiving fabrics, that might be another easy and pretty outfit.&nbsp;

<p>City Chic is Australian, that’s why it’s well known here in NZ as we are neighbouring countries. It comes under City Chic Collective, I found a Wikipedia article.<br />
It seems a successful brand from my limited knowledge of it. We have a lot of women in NZ who the sizing would suit.<br />
I think all of these look stunning on you! I love the copper and the berry especially.

<p>Lovely fit and lovely colours. I think they all really suit you. I especially love that dress and think it looks sensational on you.&nbsp; &nbsp;I know how you feel about wearing the good stuff each day.&nbsp; I am like that too especially with white shirts and I have a beige jacket now that I'm too scared to wear to work in case I stain it.&nbsp; I have found if I have something on hand so if I am stepping out for groceries or library etc, I pop on my nice stuff.&nbsp; When I work, I wear my nice blazer when I am not doing anything that is going to make me dirty....am a teacher so don't wear my blazer on playground duty or when I'm making my lunch.&nbsp; <br />&nbsp;I love city chic's tunic.&nbsp; Its a particular style that I don't think they sell in NZ anymore where I live so I have to go looking for them 2nd hand. I have about 3 in different colours and wear them with birks or sneakers. I"m not particulary tall or curvy (5ft 6 and a NZ size 12) but I love the way they hang.&nbsp; &nbsp; I see the US sites have them.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<p>These are simply fabulous on you. And I think they still have a bit of the boho vibe. Force yourself to wear them

<p>Hello Cardiff Girl! I love your thoughts and replies so much. &nbsp;I love your perspective! That is so true -- in 20-30 years, it really won't matter if I ruined a blouse or got something on it. Just enjoy it now! I get that.&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>I have considered a house coat! Or even coveralls. Something to just slip on -- as long as I don't get too sweaty. I've also considered getting some kind of house dress I can slip on and off to clean in and not worry if it gets bleached, greased, etc. So that is something for me to consider more.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I need to find some structured jersey pencil skirts. The ones I've tried were too lightweight of fabric; every dimple on my thighs and bottom showed through the fabric &gt;.&lt; It wasn't pleasant. I also found some trouble making them work with my shoes and blouses. BUT... that was a couple years ago. So maybe now it would be better. I'll have to experiment more. I do love a good pencil skirt. I just have to temper it, likely with a band tee or something kind of unexpected.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I will definitely be looking for some knitted waistcoat patterns I think they might be fun to try! I do love a good vest.&nbsp;</div>

<p>Well there’s a lot in this post isn’t there!First of all yay to honouring your body shape.I know we all tend to wish we were a different size shape etc and totally ignore all the good bits.You have a spectacularly feminine body which a lot of men will be ga ga over ,you have a beautiful face ,fab skin and really lovely unusual coloured eyes.Take it from an older person to enjoy all these things to the max whilst you still can.In 20/30 years you will otherwise look back and think what was l so worried about,l was hot and l should have just enjoyed it<br />Wear the good clothes and those lovely blouses,put the make up on ,make every day count.It will make you feel better and everyone around you will notice and appreciate it too.<br />l know you don’t want to ruin good stuff cleaning the house but you also don’t want to be cleaning the house all day so maybe change after chores?Wear a house coat?</p>
<div>I think some knitted waistcoats will be smashing over those blouses.<br />l have some stretchy but structured jersey pencil style skirts that hit around mid calf or lower.l think something like this would look great on you if you fancied a change from leggings.You can still be glam as long as you keep the fabrics easy care l think.</div></p>

<p>Firstly, the clothes, then I'll add some thoughts below, so you don't have to wade through all of my rambling and introspecting. I feel like they're all winners! What do you think? Be as honest as you like. I will not be offended.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
<div><br /><div><i><b></b></i><b><u></u></b><u>1. Copper tie-waist sweater</u><b></b></div><div>I got an email featuring this sweater, and it's what made me even consider City Chic. The color is even better in real life. It's just so stunning, like the later afternoon sun on an October day. The fit is surprisingly good. The front tie gapes a bit, leaving a little "hole" where the tie should maybe fill it in. But I feel if I size up the water is going to be overly large. I like the fit as is. What do you think?</div><div><br /></div><div><i><b></b></i><b><u></u></b><u>2. Sheer victorian black blouse</u><b></b></div><div>The fit is spectacular! Just barely enough length to wear it as a wrap-blouse style. It's not practical,&nbsp;even for grocery shopping, let's be real. And I don't even care. It reminds me of two Monica Bellucci outfits that I absolutely&nbsp;adores. And... it's this gorgeous Victorian-inspired piece. Tons of tiny, fabric-covered buttons with little elastic loop closures down the front. The sleeves give me serious Anne-of-Green-Gables-puffed-sleeves vibes. Marilla didn't think puffed sleeves were practical, but Anne didn't care. Neither do I. Wear it to the grocery store, shall I. But I likely won't&nbsp;clean toilets, wash dishes, or scrub the chicken coop in it.&nbsp;</div><div><br /><b><i></i></b><u>3. Berry victorian lace blouse</u><b><i></i></b></div><div>Another surprise. Also has some Victorian/Edwardian vibes. I love it tucked in with my jeggings. It's just a nice balance of everyday wear, yet could&nbsp;be dressed up more. I feel it will be good for mom group, family&nbsp;dinners, and the like. I'm very happy&nbsp;with the color too! I haven't checked it with my DA fan yet, but I feel it is likely DA. DA has some beautiful berries and even a very warm pink.</div><div><br /></div><div><u>4. Knot front striped dress</u></div><div>This was a total wild card. I typically dislike and avoid stripes. And yet...I LOVE IT! Another piece I feel I can dress up or down. It has potential to be a real workhorse piece. It has a lovely 70s shirt dress vibe to it. I ordered the XS and it pulls through the&nbsp;shoulders. So I ordered the next size up to try. I am waffling with keeping the XS just to have in case it fits down the line. I really love this dress that much.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>And now my thoughts:&nbsp;</i></b></div><div>City Chic is a new-to-me retailer/brand. I had never heard of them and don't remember how I stumbled across their site. I decided to try them and see what happened. City Chic is cut for curvy figures, bless them forever. &nbsp;I'm 5'10.5 and very curvy, so I find that even buying standard retailers in larger sizes doesn't usually work. (I lost my European tailor when she retired, so that option is out too.) I have purchased some clothing from Torrid in the past. It works fairly well but a lot of it is not not cut very curvy; it is a lot of straight fits. So I think I've subconsciously been searching for another brand to try.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I also realized that while I dearly, deeply love very bohemian styles, in my current body it just doesn't work on me. My body shape is too voluptuous and curvy to handle the immense amounts of volume, straighter cuts, etc. Yes, there are curvier cuts and versions of bohemian. And I won't entirely let go of my bohemian roots. But a lot of it just hasn't been working on me. I am built like Christina Hendricks, and that's just the way it is. So I am trying to honor my body shape instead of hide it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
</div><div>Does this more glamorous vibe feel higher maintenance? YES. It's why I've avoided it for so long. I don't feel I can just walk out the door without makeup wearing a couple of these pieces, if I'm honest. And yet, I have come to realize that the reality is constantly fighting to make certain cuts and styles fit on my body shape is actually higher maintenance in practice than wearing more glamorous clothing. Feeling good about myself in my clothes NOW actually can bring me peace. Being able to slip-on a blouse and have it fit from the get-go and feel authentic on me is lower maintenance, even if the overall style itself isn't super sporty and casual. (Obviously, finding the clothing that fits and feels true to oneself is kind of the challenging step in the journey, isn't it? Not glossing over that. But sometimes the pieces fall together at a the right time. )</div></div><div><br /></div><div>I think the hardest part of this haul is me wearing these items and letting them get worn, loved, and potentially snagged or stained by everyday-real-life. It is so easy for me to keep stuff pretty and nice and just wear house clothes for everyday life. So that might be a challenge for me. (The black blouse will not be everyday though!)
</p>
<p>
</div><div>I still need some practical everyday flats (looking at smoking flats), and some new booties. But whether that will happen this winter or not, I'm just not sure. Still working out my budget and seeing what items find me when they find me. And I may just hit Target or Walmart and get something cheap-ish to get me by. I also need some practical bottoms. I have two pairs of jeggings I'm rotating through. But the new tops and dress have breathed life into me right now! So one step at at time.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I also really, really want to knit some simpler sweater vests of some kind to wear with these blouses. I think they could potentially be lovely.&nbsp;</div>
