Beth Ann - well, we mustn't overheat when popping into Nordie's! thanks for the input!
Mary - I simply CANNOT be the one responsible for you weeping bitter tears, so on that basis alone, I MUST keep it! ;)
Vicki - you are so sweet! The more I think about it, the more often I can see myself needing it. And I must be fashionable even when sitting on the sidelines of a football game!
Marmee - thanks for chiming in. The help of fellow seattleites has been very helpful! I wish you could have joined us at the SSIF...next time!

Christy, I really don't think this will be too warm, especially for standing outside events. Other than rainy days, I think you will reach for this frequently. I live in Seattle and wear mine all the time in the winter. I like to be toasty!

This color was made for you and your coloring and I do hope you keep this beauty in that new closet of yours!

Since you do run cold and have to contend with overcast skies and rain for two seasons in a row, this seems like just the right find and your son will be making touchdowns in your honor. This jacket makes for one beautiful uniform.

Christy: I live in Chicago (brrr), but I've noticed that my terrific Eddie Bauer down coat is very breathable. On warmer days I wear it unzipped, and it feels like the lofty nature of the down keeps me from overheating, even when I'm, say, popping into Nordies. And I run extremely warm.

Thank you for the collective wisdom everyone! I do ADORE it and have been thinking about it for well over a month. And Angie did think it was climate appropriate, as Claire so wisely pointed out. This is just a big investment piece (Nordstrom notes and a gift card from my in-laws meant that it was quite a bit less out of pocket, but still...) and I had this moment of panic that it was a "fantasy life" piece rather than a "real life" piece.

Diane - the color is fabulous, isn't it? And so fun when I got home and realized it matched my boots!
CC - Good point! And you're local, right?
Zibbetts - I'd say we average in the 40s for much of the colder months. Luckily we aren't to night time football yet, still daytime and no bleachers! But still chilly and damp on the sidelines
lisap - I'm beginning to wonder why I don't have more olive in my wardrobe! Definitely an oversight...
kkards - thank you, that's helpful to have that temperature range!
Claire - you're so sweet and wise! I think I'll take your advice. I won't cut the tags just yet; I'll pop it in the closet and just see when the occasion comes up for me to wear it. Nordstrom has such a great return policy.
Lyn67 - thanks!
missvee - yes, it is damp and chilly here. And I loved that it was olive instead of black or navy...
Firecracker - good point about the length. That's big difference between this one and the one I have for much colder weather, which is just above the knee. Believe me, I'm being swayed! :)
jackiec - thank you! It's good to hear from another person in the same climate. My guess is that it won't be too warm.
bj1111 - I really, really WANT it! I just want to make sure it's practical!!
Deborah - thank you. I feel like it looks better IRL - it's so cozy and warm!
Aida - your wisdom comes through again! thank you!
Deb - thank you! I really enjoyed meeting you and talking over breakfast and lunch!
shevia - aww...thank you! I don't feel like the stock photo does it justice at all
Sveta - thank you! It was so great to meet you!

As Claire said, the photos don't do it justice! This coat looks ridiculously good with your hair, skin coloring, and eyes Christy. I'm glad you got it. I don't see it as too matchy with the boots. I have a shorter length puffery coat that gets quite a bit of weekend wear; I'd guess this would be perfect for weekend days in the 40s. Not cold enough to warrant full coverage, but colder than peacoat weather. And we do get a fair amount of that weather.

Love and it was worth the expense since you look so fab in it. Do you run cold? I run cold esp in drizzle which i have a hard time coming with, so for me, the thigh exposure would limit how and to where I wear this jacket. Maybe with warmer shoes/boots, would be ok for Seattle.

Oh wow this is gorgeous on you! Love it with the boots, and I love your cozy sweaters! Living in Vancouver I reach for some version of a puffer all winter long. I find the damp chills me to the bone, and I'm also outside a lot.

The jacket looks so fantastic on you, I'd be upset if you feel you need to return it. But don't let me sway you. Ha ha ha ha!
I can't imagine that it will be too warm for Seattle. Walking the dog for five or 10 minutes is one thing, but watching an entire soccer game outdoors in the damp, chilly air is entirely another. I'd want the down for that! It is perfect with your boots--that kind of matchy-matchy looks very cool. It's a superb color for you. To others' suggestions about mitigating the warmth of the coat, I would keep in mind its length. It's not a full down puffer coat. It's a jacket, and I see it as being a wonderful option for the lifestyle you describe.
Oh, yeah, and last year's winter was unusually warm--I didn't get out my wool coats very much, and I didn't wear my wool fedora at all.
But really, don't let me sway you. (evil grin)

I love that it matches the boots - it's so hard to get interesting pieces in a colour other than black, so I see that as a real bonus.
You get a lot of damp cold in the PNW don't you, so the weight should be ideal. And I second ClearlyClare's advice to hang onto it for now and just see if you reach for it.

These pictures do not do that jacket justice, Christy! It is so flattering in cut and the color is rich and sophisticated. It seemed like such a lightweight down to me, I can't imagine it being too warm (well--you saw the way I was layered up for a mild Fall day). It would be nice to throw on over a thin knit top and now have to get all layered up first. Angie seemed to think it was climate appropriate as well, and she really knows her stuff!

Maybe you will have a chance to see if you reach for it before the return window is up? You looked SO beautiful in it, but I realize it has to be practical as well.

christy --its really hard to tell without knowing the down fill power, but since the nordies site says its lightwieght down, i'm going to assume that its made for moderate weather. i wear my north face down in temps from 50F thru -10F, i find that by leaving it open or just snapping it shut instead of zipping, it can take a range of temps.

On the weekends we take our dog and meet friends for a walk and then have coffee at an outside table at a coffee shop. We do this year 'round. In the winter I wear long underwear, sweater, ski parka and mittens, and I'm still chilled if we sit and yak for an hour or more. I can imagine that standing watching soccer or football would be similar.

Gorgeous jacket! I hope you decide to keep it.

Christy, I love that jacket! I can't really comment on the thickness as I don't possess anything similar, but I does appear to be what I would think of as the right weight for a Seattle winter. I just adore the colour and you're right, it goes beautifully with your NAS boots and I like that they match. You certainly rock a loose slouchy sweater too.

Can you all stand one more post about SSIF?! I'm hoping so!

This is my splurge item: a lovely Burberry quilt down jacket with a hood in olive green.

The backstory: I've been searching for a casual hooded jacket to fit my very casual weekend lifestyle. My son plays flag football, I live in Seattle (hello rain and drizzle all fall & winter!), we are outside a fair amount especially now that we have a dog, and we have a small place in the mountains (that we don't get to nearly often enough so I don't want to factor that in too highly into whether or not this is a keeper).

I've tried it on here with my NAS finds that will constitute my fall/winter "uniform": cozy, oversized sweaters over leggings or skinny jeans (but my skinny jeans were in the wash so I substituted with a straight leg in these photos). The jacket is a good length with my long sweaters and they don't stick out too much except a smidge in the back.

My concern: although I run cold, I'm worried that this quilted jacket might be too warm for our climate? I want this to be a go-to coat for the colder months, not one that I only reach for when temperatures go down significantly (I have a much thicker puffer coat for that which only got pulled out a few times last year). Does anyone have a quilted jacket in a similar weight that can weigh in on approximate temps that they find it to be comfortable to wear?

Added bonus (I think!): it matches my olive green NAS boots (in photos 5-9). Or is that too matchy-matchy?

I have to post and run - I'll try to see if I can add my NAS purchases to the finds later.

Thanks for your thoughts!! :)

ETA the "finds" for my NAS purchases. I couldn't find the grey Vince sweater in #5, but it's super cozy and soft!
