Great choices! Those rosy blue-reds are so beautiful on you. I had a similar relationship with good old Wet 'n Wild when I was a young mother. I remember a gorgeous shade called Mahogany that looked like a much more expensive brand and made me feel sophisticated. Now that I'm older, with drier skin and a bit more money available to spend on little luxuries, I've become devoted to Chanel lipsticks. They're long-lasting and very hydrating, they arrive in beautifully wrapped in black and white boxes, and they smell faintly of roses. I just found a new favorite muted plum called Suzanne--a little birthday present to myself . But I still check out the Wet 'n Wild display whenever I'm in the drugstore!

I love these lipstick colours on you!

Drugstore makeup is fun! Eyeliners are my thing from the drugstore. Lots of colours! And mascara. Esp mascara. I like whoever it is that makes the Manga mascara. It's the most effective one I've ever found for my short thin lashes.

I went off department store makeup because of the perfumes.

Love a drugstore bargain! That second shade on you is my favorite, your eyes look super green against that bright pink!

I quite like the Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadows - they're a cream formula in a little pot and wear nicely. I get a pale shimmery shade (Barely Branded) for the brow bone and inner eye and a medium coppery shade (Bad to the Bronze) for a bit of dimension on the lid and crease. They last quite a long time and it's easier to dab them on with a fingertip than go through the whole rigamarole of primer and brushes and powder shadows!

Regarding skincare, my dermatologist suggested the Neutrogena Hydroboost line for my dry, acne-prone skin and I was SO glad she endorsed an affordable drug store brand. It goes on like a dream and there are almost always Neutrogena coupons and sales going on so I look for promotions and stock up. I have the SPF version for day and the water gel for night. I layer them over a more expensive hydrating serum I got from an aesthetician and they work nicely together.

DonnaF, I haven't tried the Suede line yet. That's wonderful to know! I'm always worried I will transfer lipstick to my son's hands (he is in the grabby stage) and then have lipstick smeared on clothes etc. so I might have to try those!

Thank you Cindy!! Oh yes I love ELF. They have a great liquid liner pen I just discovered. WNW have a beautiful 3-color eyeshadow palette called Sweet...sweet something. Haha It's simple: peachy pink, grey-lavender, and sooty black-brown. But it's just so romantic and reminds me of one of TooFaced's palettes.

The Cat, oh thank you!!! My eyes are hmm... olive, wolf yellow or cat green depending on what I wear. They're definitely unusually and I rarely see green eyes on anyone these days.

H&M lipsticks??? Wow I must try them! Thanks for the tip!!

Mascara is tough. I have no issue with smudging. Nonetheless, for whatever reason I don't care for most Maybelline mascaras either. They always feel too stiff, even their Full 'n Soft formula is stiff. I usually buy L'Oréal mascaras. I've only had a couple fail. Voluminous is my favorite. The new Lash Paradise is supposed be luxuriously glamorously wonderful and I'm going to try it next.

As for smudging, you could try Blinc. It forms little tubes around each eyelash. It's not cheap though.

There's waterproof formulas. They're harder on lashes and I don't like them. But if you're desperate for a non smudge mascara, that would likely do the trick.

Otherwise, there are always false eyelashes and lash extensions. I'm about to try magnetic false eyelashes myself, and will report back when I do. They're a bunch of cheap knockoffs that don't cost a fortune. So it might be worth a go!

XO MWAH!

A couple coats of Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede is bulletproof. It lasts all day and even through lunch. It is not overly drying. I am too lazy to check my face/lips all day and re-apply my lippie so now that I've discovered the Ultimate Suedes, my $$$ lippies tend to languish in my drawer.

"Our society places such an emphasis on living above one's means and buying expensive luxury brands as a status symbol." Well said, Keturah.

You look great with your new lipsticks. In particular, #3 and #4 look harmonious with your own colours.--By the way, what beautiful, exciting eyes you have! Are they olive green?

I don't spend a lot of money on makeup. Usually buy stuff from Rimmel, Maybelline, Max Factor, and the like. And always look out for special offers.

A couple of months ago, I bought four lipsticks from H&M (their own brand), and they are actually among the best I've ever had!

What I ought to look for next, is an inexpensive mascara that doesn't smudge ... At present, I have two from Maybelline, highly recommended by several others, but I should have known better, from my own experience. For some reason, Maybelline mascaras have never worked for me.

I've been using Covergirl mascara (currently Lashblast Volume) since high school. I've tried higher end brands but always go back to it.

I think lipstick is a great item to save on when doing "save/splurge".

I wear Cover girl foundation and lipstick, Maybelline eyeliner and L'Oreal mascara. I do have somewhat sensitive skin but have never had a problem. I don't know if I would be happier with more expensive brands but the prospect of experimenting has always defeated me. I too remember reading that the standard 'Great Lash' (pink and green) Maybelline mascara rates as high as anything else. I also use various drugstore moisturizers/sunscreen.

Wet 'n' Wild lipsticks are a wonderfully good deal. Blind Date is my favorite for wearing with maroon, and Ready to Swoon is my go-to nude-but-more pink. Cherry Frost is a pretty red.

I'm also really enjoying the Rimmel lipsticks, especially the "Lasting Finish" (plain black tube). The 01 red is gorgeous, and the 05 pink is the best true pink rose I've found. It doesn't go mauve, plum, or hot.

I don't use foundation, but I like the Coty loose powder. Translucent Extra Coverage is perfect for me.

Once I googled for "best drugstore mascara" and one of the top winners was the regular old pink-and-green Maybelline. I've been using the BIG formula since and am perfectly satisfied with it.

I haven't heard of Jordana. Is it also at Walmart?

I will add that one of my favorite drugstore brands is Jordana. It is really nice quality and family owned business. They have beautiful formulas and colors for lips and eyes at super reasonable prices. I've never tried their foundations but they seem good.

I still love L'Oréal, Revlon, etc. but they have gotten more and more expensive over the last couple years. I do buy them still and watch for sales. But it's surprising to see a couple foundations close to $15!

Part of the challenge of having a new little one and staying home is the budget is suddenly not a free for all like it was in my single career days. Formula, food, and diapers are now top priority. We are not reduced to instant ramen, but there isn't giant amounts of fun money to spend either.

Our society places such an emphasis on living above one's means and buying expensive luxury brands as a status symbol. The challenge of a single income certainly shows me how even I have been sucked into this mindset, despite not thinking I had been.

I have really been attempting to be open to shopping at Walmart, and buying ridiculously cheap makeup, especially color products. Foundation and skincare I can't skimp on due to past issues with acne. And yes, I really enjoy and believe in buying high quality items. Still, while I'm working towards minimal, I am easily bored with only one lipstick to wear, or one makeup look, even if it's luxury. I like options!

This week wanting a bit of a thrill, I bought 3 new 93 cent Wet 'n Wild lipsticks.

Pic 1: 527B, Fuschia with Blue Pearl.
Matches my fuschia blouse almost too perfectly. Should be really beautiful with black or navy. Might be too much with said blouse.

Pic 2: 537B, Blind Date.
Lovely wine shade! Can see wearing it quite a bit with neutral eyes.

Pic 3: 538A, Just Garnet.
Slightly more red based wine shade. It really does remind me of garnets. Feels cooler, and perhaps more like a summer season's burgandy to me. Don't love it, but it's nice enough to try wearing.

Anyone else enjoy cheap makeup thrills? What are your favorite shades and brands?
