Suz, I think this coat has a two way zip on the bottom. You can always call and ask, but The North Face website has a better picture of them in different colors and it seems to show them. I have never seen a longer jacket from them without one. Una and Angie would know, they both purchased them.

This is a drool-worthy collection, Staysfit. The Boss suit looks ideal for you--what a stunningly serene shade of blue!--so I hope it works out. I know you have a hard time finding the perfect fit in a blazer, so I have fingers crossed on this one. The Lafayette top is a gorgeous print and style for you, too, so it would be great it it coordinates. I prefer it to the Boss top, for your style (less high contrast, and the high-neck, cut-in style is so good on you).

Thanks, Staysfit. That's helpful info for me. It looks like a really useful item for me, too. The only thing that bugs me is that it does not appear to be a two way zip on the bottom, and that's a feature I really need.

Suz, I live in these lighter weight North Face coats in the early part of fall and winter, and again in Spring when it isn't sub-zero. I wear them over my gear when I walk in the morning and they have allowed my neighbor and I to extend our morning ritual until we get so much snow that it's dangerous because the plow can't see us around corners. They are perfect for when it gets to be around 40 F, and I might even wear mine when it's 50 F at the beginning of the cold season because it always feels colder than it really is until you adjust your wardrobe, and they're good until about 20 F for me, which means I can get away with wearing them on warmer winter days also. This particular coat says its equivalent to a 600 fill down coat which sounds warmer than the bomber styles I have. Another advantage to this filling is it keeps you warm if it gets wet, unlike down. I tend to purchase a roomy size so I can layer. Last winter I barely used my heavier coats because it was so mild.

Jenn, your red bucket comment is perfect! Yes, the red bag is my "red bucket" and the button sweater is also playful. I work with children so I like to have some fun, fresh items to wear when I'm with them. Maybe my look is a bit funky, which is often how my friends describe what I wear. I often achieve it by wearing some interesting shoes or some interesting jewelry that I purchased at an art fair, but buttons on a sweater, or a brightly colored purse achieve the same thing. Of course reds, pinks, reds and corals are a fairly large part of my wardrobe. Think of lobsters or watermelon, sunsets and shells - all items I associate with a serene beach. The red of this bag may be a bit too dark for me, it's probably wrong, but I will only know once I see it in person.

Ann, I'm glad to hear the SW shoes are as beautiful in person as they seem to look online. I hope you get a lot of wear from them. The lack of color variety in the NAS is disappointing, but blue, grey and white are my neutrals. I hope the items here will complement what I already own. However, hearing about the black mixed into the Boss suit worries me. I'm not a fan of wearing black, but I hope that mixed with something else it will work, especially now that I have grey hair. I'm also wonder how the black will play with the rest of my wardrobe?

You and I appear to be on the same blue track this NAS. The suit is gorgeous, it went into my Finds yesterday morning to think about for round 2. Today, while in store, I saw it in person and it is sharkskin, decidedly duochrome ink and black. Very striking. I tried on and bought the SWs in the same colorway. They have an unreal, 'lit from within' dimensional quality to them, don't they?

I'm with Suz, I would be all over the Boss suit if I had a need for it. I had a male friend who went out and bought a $700 Hugo Boss suit before finance interviews, and that's been his workhorse since then--I'm almost tempted to buy it as a reserve for when I need a suit, but styles and sizes change. I can't wait to see it on you!

I'm curious about the bright red. It really pops in the Finds. Are you looking at this color as a statement accent? It definitely doesn't strike me as "serene" but maybe it's like a child's pail half-buried in the sand on your beach. :)

I'm not sure I'm sold on the cardigan with the wacky buttons, but I can picture almost all the remainder of these items on you. I think the copped trouser suit could be especially stunning, though I can see how it might be a little dark for your palette.

Very much looking forward to a modeling session! I love how much thought you put into building your wardrobe, and it's been instructional for me to watch.

Oooh!! Exciting. You have ordered such a beautiful haul!!

I haven't seen any of these in person, of course, but I do know that some are Angie Top Picks (based on what she's been saying to others.)

I think it's all gorgeous, and most of it looks potentially great for you. I also understand the deep temptation to buy knits and coats and weatherproof footwear! In our climate, a person can't really have too many of these items and they do get a lot of wear.

The Boss suit is so stunning. If I had a need for a suit, I'd be looking at it very seriously. Alas (?) I do not. I also love the Max Mara, but I suspect you will choose one or the other, not both.

Wrap dresses are difficult for me personally because I don't tend to fill them out. I wonder if it's similar for you and the one you love has style details that set it apart? This one is lovely colours so I hope it works.

I'm also ordering the Aquatalia boots.

Can you please tell me about your North Face coat? What type of temps do you wear it in? What kind of days/ activities is it good for in our climate?

Looking forward to seeing this stuff on you!

Hey, if you prefer grey, get the grey parka. I have two grey Patagonia jackets - a nano puff and an ultralight down. Right now my hair is silver, so grey is really good. Eventually my hair will go white and I'll add other colors besides grey, blue and olive.

Re your tote: Is it leather? I wash my vintage Coach leather bags. I use Dawn dish soap, rinse very very well, and stuff with towels to shape as they dry. I put leather conditioner on before they are completely dry. I've had some with gross stains that completely washed out. If it's a lost cause, it might be worth your while. I wouldn't soak the bags, because some brands use glue and cardboard. The old Coach bags are virtually bulletproof.

We don't have a Nordstrom so I have been surfing the web trying to stick to my original well layed out shopping plan. You may wonder what that plan was, because I am also sitting here wondering as I stare in wonder at what I actually ended up purchasing for try -on!

The original plan was to look for the following: 1. Long sleeve dress appropriate to wear at a funeral, or in a place of worship. 2. Warm long down coat, to replace an old, well loved red Eddie Bauer coat that has seen better days. 3. Pocket-less boyfriend style grey sweater of some sort 4. Plaid Flannel shirts for lazy weekend days/lounge wear 5. One to two pairs of weatherproof booties (I purchase at least a couple pairs each year because they see heavy use in my location). 6. Blazers/Jackets/Toppers of any sort that might fit and work with the rest of my wardrobe, and if I find some sort of suit equivalent in my wardrobe color palette even better. 7. Trial pair of cropped slacks instead of jeans?? 8. Sleeveless tops

Style: My style is going towards wearing one or two neutrals plus a color, or I am wearing a solid color plus something smaller with a pattern. (I hope this makes sense to you. It does to me.) I fell in love with Zero and Maria Cornejo. I keep eyeing all her looks, and I bought a dress, and now, I want another....and another.....and....... However, my style remains true to my moniker of the two words Serene Elegant. Also Genuine Composed.

Here are my considerations. As is often the case, I am looking at more than I will keep. Much more. I tried to pick things that were in keeping with my style words. When I look at items, I try to picture a beach. I look for details that remind me of ocean waves, or colors that remind me of the sea or a beach. That gets me close to the serene element. It also keeps me in tune with my color palette.

1. TNF coats: I couldn't decide which color?? I already have a short version of the dove grey and love it. I ordered the blue, but am thinking about getting the dove grey as a back up. I wear coats September to May, so no coat goes unworn in my closet!

2. Shoes and Booties: I snuck in a pair of Paul Green Loafers. I ordered the graphite, not the black. I also love the Donald Pliner booties, but they are not weatherproof. That could be a deal breaker here in the snow belt. Fit is always an issue, so its a tossup as to whether any of these will work.

3. Plaid shirts: I found two that I like. I considered one from Current Elliot, it had some red and blue, but I had a red and blue plaid shirt previously and never wore it, I seem to prefer lower contrast plaid.

4. Handbags: These weren't even on my list right?! I ended up ordering two. A red bag is on my long term list of items to find, and I'm hoping the MZ Wallace bag is the correct color. I also need a new tote. My water bottle drained into my tote last week, and somehow it also seeped into my lunch which had carrot juice. You can imagine what that does to a bag and it's contents. I am also looking to replace my wallet, but I am getting the same one as before. Perhaps someone has a remedy for carrot stains? (My tote was a mix of canvas and leather.)

5. I am combining dresses, pants, blazers and something suitable for funerals and places of worship. I fell in love with the Boss separates, and ordered the jacket, sheath dress, and I believe I also ordered a pair of slacks. I didn't include them in my finds. I loved the shade of blue which I think will be in my palette, it looks to be a mid-tone blue, and I also love the cut. I think it can work for many different conservative venues, depending on what I wear with it. I found a Lafayette NY shell that I liked to pair with it, but I ordered the top they showed just for comparison. I also ordered a Max Mara jacket and crop pants for kicks, but I doubt I will keep them. I suspect they will be too dark toned. Oops, I forgot a pair of shoes. I have already tried a pair of the Stuart Weitzman Largo's. I ordered them in a larger size this time. They run small. If anyone else is ordering them, I recommend ordering 1/2 size larger than your typical size in this brand.

6. The boyfriend sweater: I'm not sure if this is even something that is still in style, but I wanted one because I have one that is very worn out and pilled. I didn't find one on sale, but I did find something that I really like. It's a Marc Jacobs sweater. It's a bit longer than a boyfriend sweater, but shorter than my long sweater jackets. I'm not exactly sure what cateogory it belongs to, but I really loved it. It is the color I wanted, and It has fun buttons! I has no luck finding one without pockets. There was one by Rag and Bone that I liked, but it was too light a grey.

7. Turtlenecks and cashmere: Hey! I wouldn't be me if I didn't look at these right?! So, I decided I would only look at something with interesting details and features that I don't already have. The hoodie is exaggerated in size and sleeveless, so it functions like a vest, but I love hoodie style. The funnel neck is just a beautiful sweater. I love the banded bottom, the type of stitch, the color. The Trouve sweater should be lighter weight and serve as a transitional piece. I don't need many of these, but it's nice to have one or two.

8. One of my favorite dresses is a BCBG Adele wrap. I keep trying to find another one in a pattern I love. I repeatedly fail, but maybe I will succeed with this one..........

I definitely didn't stick to my plan. I ordered handbags and shoes, and cashmere sweaters. I didn't find any long sleeve dresses appropriate for a funeral. However, I also found many items that were within my guidelines.

Any predictions about which will work best?
