My shoe size used to be 6.5 W (C width). Now it's 7.5 W (D width) due to bunions and spreading feet from pregnancies. I have to contend with occasional pain or numbness in one of my big toes, so I wear shoes with arch support and stiffer soles to keep my toes from bending.

I wrote about this in Spring. My feet are fussier and shrinking. NO PADDING whatsoever. (So the opposite of growing longer and wider). Got rid of all my heels that aren't sitting shoes. Major shoe overhaul for me this year. Spring and Summer are done - Autumn & Winter are next.

My shoe size went up 1/2 size after my second pregnancy at age 32. I really haven't noticed change in size since then. Though my feet are definitely fussier.
OTOH, I discovered this winter that I have gone up a full size in gloves. My hands are much broader than they used to be. Has this happened to anyone else? I suppose it could be due to my exercise routine which changed about three years ago. I'm definitely broader in the shoulders and upper back due to that, but not sure if it could affect my hands?
So has this happened to anyone else, or am I a freak?

Absolutely! I used to wear mostly 8 1/2 but some 9 depending on style. Now I don't think I should even bother trying the smaller size. Plus I'm giving up most tapered toes- even almond toe seems bad for my feet.

This seems to happen to me EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON. now. It is downright depressing. I have been spending more on shoes in the hopes that they will last longer and not have the discomfort issues other shoes have had, and they seem to be the same regardless of cost. Indeed, my most dependable, long day shoes last winter were one of the least expensive pairs I own (and sadly probably will not make it through another winter).

I haven't noticed my feet getting longer or wider just fussy. They do swell or get inflamed a lot. It does help to change up your footwear daily.

I'm not sure if it's happened in a single year, but in the past 5 years, my feet have got wider, yes. Maybe a touch longer too.

I never used to find shoes too tight in the toe box, and now I find most shoes too tight. But my heels are narrow, so I'm now in a "Suz Situation" where my everything comfortable falls off the back of my feet (including the infamous Ecco sneakers).

Another thing I noticed just this year is: I get achy pain in my heel and a little bit lengthwise when I wear converse or ballet flats.

So I'm getting old.

I'm seriously considering decommissioning my heels. Beloved Shoes!

Interesting. Mine haven't changed in length or width but I do have plantar fasciitis. And I've also had the experience of shoes that worked one year feeling much less comfortable the next year. Usually this is due to wear on the shoe that I'm not quite willing to admit. I'm tough on my footwear and wear down the heels and the inside footbeds...if I really love a shoe, I often "get used to it" during the season, but putting it on the next year will teach me a lesson. :(

I absolutely find this happens(ed). One of my favourite pair from last summer no longer feel good at all. Just part of the aging process ....?

As my feet get fussier over time, I notice that last year's comfortable shoes are not as comfortable this year.
Some are just because of the change of season and get comfortable after wearing but mostly the ones that are no longer as comfy stay that way. Have you had that experience?
Here is a link from Cleveland Clinic where they explain why.

https://health.clevelandclinic.....-time/amp/

Although I must say that my feet are the same length they have always been and that the wide width was always there. The one thing that makes them wider for me is just wearing sneakers or flats for a while, that is why it's good to change up a bit and wear heels, even if they are not too high.
If you think this should be off topic, can you please change it to OT?
