mtnsofthemoon - Indeed repeating the same bottom in different colors is an excellent strategy! Especially when it's a hard to fit item, like pants. You have a lovely collection of colors in your workhorse pants! Thanks for sharing.

Lisa I do the same as well. I am very curvy on the bottom. My waist and hips are 2 different sizes. I have learned over the years when I find an item that fits me well on the bottom (bonus if alterations are not needed) and I like the style I buy on repeat! As a matter of fact I currently have 5 pairs of the same pant (in different colores) I have been wearing for the past couple of years! I started out with 3 pairs - noticed I wore them a LOT and went back to grab 2 more pairs before the were gone. They are a "staple" for me - I wear them to work and weekends - changing my tops all the time. They work for me 2/3's of the year and have been workhorses.

I must say my bottoms are all over the place. I have a huge variety of colours and patterns. They don't really cross-over various temps. But I have found I really do prefer black or dark denim for three seasons (Spring, Autumn and Winter). Cool idea though as CAROL said.

Firecracker (Sharan) - Swapping bottoms is a great strategy and one I do often in the summer because of a/c settings.

Ket - Adding or removing a topper is another great strategy. This is something I am still learning to do during our transitional weather when we get big swings from cold to hot then back to cold throughout the day during fall.

Val MN - Swapping footwear is another great strategy! I do this with footwear, have the same color footwear across styles (example, ivory boots and ivory sandals that match an ivory handbag) so that I can sport the same bag across the seasons.

Yes, in that nearly all of my bottoms are in the same few dark neutrals . Also, if I want to adjust my outfit for different temperature conditions in summer, sometimes I do it by swapping sandals for closed-toe shoes.

Really lovely! All of the pink and white is fun on you, Lisa!

I’m definitely the outlier here :} No swapping out. My bottoms wardrobe is too small. I also never wear shorts and hardly any skirts. This pattern has been true for probably 15 years to date. I do switch out dresses or tops, or remove/add a topper.

That makes a lot of sense, Lisa. These outfits are cool looking. I think I've done the same thing, but in reverse, swapping out light blue jeans from a cool morning to light blue cutoffs when the day warmed up.

Suz - *high five for swapping* I enjoy duplications in all forms: to swap within the same day like I did here, and to swap across the seasons so I can keep wearing a favorite outfit combination with just a small tweak. :)

Roberta - I've also duplicated items to sport the same outfit combination across seasons. It's a great strategy!

Suz - A great point about how switching can change the formality of an outfit. I have worn a blazer with a blouse and knit pants on planes for work travel. Then swapped the knit pants in the airport bathroom for tailored trousers before walking into a work meeting. :)

Jenni NZ - Duplicating white for summer so I can sport my outfit in both a/c and non a/c settings is a key strategy for my summer wardrobe too! *high five for duplicating white*

And yes, it is fun to dress up for dinners while on holiday! It helps me feel like I'm on vacation because I don't always dress up for dinners out while at home. Probably because where I live is very casual.

Sal - Repeating the same color across different styles of tops is a great strategy and something I also do. Especially so I can sport the same outfit combination across seasons.

Carol - Swapping a neutral for another neutral is a great strategy! :)

The Cat - You have a great strategy to swap tops versus bottoms. I am more prone to swap tops across seasons rather than within a season. This let's me wear a favorite outfit combination a little longer, even when temperatures change. :)

slim cat - *high five for bright pink blouses* It's one of my favorite shirts for layering in the summer. Swapping denim styles is a another great strategy!

Olive Green - I just duplicated my white JCrew shorts since they went on sale. They are my favorite white shorts (good length, not sheer, comfortable). This should help me avoid laundry bottlenecks as you've mentioned! :)

Dee - You've got a great point, neutrals are far easier to source in various styled bottoms than colored options. Looking at my wardrobe, my duplicates are also in neutral colors.

Irina - Yes, it makes perfect sense. A skirt would certainly require a different style of top than perhaps something like a low rise wide leg pant. An excellent observation!

LJP - Indeed, I find it easy to swap with casual outfits. It's hard to say if this works just as easily with dressy outfits, my style and daily life is so casual I haven't tried to do this with something dressier! The only thing that came to mind right now was perhaps the same color chino shorts could be swapped for the same color chino pants while the top would stay the same. It would be an interesting experiment to try sometime!

cat2 - Duplicating the same style in different colors is another excellent strategy and something I also do! *high five for duplicates* :)

Angie - I won't be starting to swap toppers until the fall. That's when we start with cool mornings but hot by midday. And yes, I'm always cold in shopping malls! Ugh. Even worse is the supermarket! I've literally worn winter sweaters to buy food on 100F days!

I actually do it more with tops. I have a white tank, tee, camo, linen shirt and a lacy blouse. I would wear all of these with denim or even my patterned palazzo pants.

I used to have multiple black pants but am down to one pair and a pair of dark charcoal. I do have white shorts, cream jeans, beige pants which kind of all go with the same tops though.

I do it Lisa, I think? Also with white bottoms. I have shorts, cropped pants, and full length white jeans. For me it might be similar, change shorts to longer pants for a dinner out. But like Angie the need for a topper would be crucial, which is why I’m not 100% sure that I do this, because the topper might need a different top.
Even on a summer holiday I prefer to dress up a bit for dinner. It feels more fun to me to do so. Maybe some hangover from reading old fashioned novels growing up where they would “dress for dinner” in the old English country houses?!

What an interesting question. Hmm, occasionally, but mostly I do the opposite. For example, I have three tops in hot pink: sleeveless, long sleeved linen, and a light sweater. That way I can wear the same outfit in all seasons!

I do this, Lisa -- absolutely! Especially on days when I will be biking or gardening or walking during the day and it is hot out....I wear the shorts. And then switch to longer bottoms later.

I've also done the switch out the top or add/ subtract the topper method that The Cat and Angie describe.

That's a great strategy! Glad it works for you, Lisa And, you look super cute in both renditions of bottoms - fab poses too!

I DO own bottoms in the same colour across various styles, levels of dressiness, and fabrics - white, red, toffee, and blue denim spring to mind. That's so I can wear the colours across the seasons - casually and dressed up.

When it comes to swapping them out during the day for temperature variation - it's more of a topper need here in Seattle. Cooler in the morning and warms up later. Bottoms stay the same. If I'm in cold a/c - I wrap up head-to-toe! Shopping malls are freezing.

Sure - I have lots of bottoms in black, black denim , blue denim and olive green/khaki in different silhouettes and levels of dressiness , but the tops aren't necessarily interchangeable the way you demonstrate here. I think this works for very casual looks like you are wearing here.

I have this only in black color. I have a pair of linen pants, cotton pants, viscose jumpsuit, all in black. Looking for black silk pants. Black is my most worn color. I also have different weight wool black pants and black jeans.
Different style bottoms in the same color would not necessarily work for me because of proportions and silhouettes. Black skirt might require different from black pants, tops. Hope it makes sense

Got my eye out for denim jort duplicate.
We have long stretches of the same weather on summer, so it really helps to swap them out with no fuss and laundry bottlenecks. Dogs and sweat will increase the churn.
Same for winter sweatpants. Duplicating weight and colour in those is a no brainer.

Very pretty - love that bright pink blouse!
I have a bit more of similar washes in denim - like mid blue denim shorts, cropped wide leg jeans and full leg jeans ( not the same but close ). I'm low on pants currently and wear more denim year around.

You look great in all these outfits.

I have 2 or more bottom styles in these colours: pink, blue, white, grey, navy, black.

However, for me it is more common to swap same colour TOPS (sleeveless/shortsleeved/longsleeved and/or in different materials).

Cool idea! But no, I don't. That will work for me, but I will just swap a neutral for a neutral. A white day skirt and evening black palazzo pants...something like that.

Hello.

In the summer, I like owning the same color bottom in different styles so that I can easily swap them based on temperatures/air conditioned settings.

Here's an example with white shorts and pants.

#1 and #2 - White Shorts for Day
Pink Rails cotton gauze shirt, Mint turtle print Life is Good tank, White JCrew chino shorts, White Sam Edelman sandals.

#3 - White Pants for Night
I swapped the white shorts for White WHBM pants for a casual dinner.

Do you own bottoms in the same colors to swap?

Thanks for looking!
