Even in the heat I like to wear socks. My feet get very sweaty and without them they just slide around in the shoe. Ballet flats don't work well for me either. I will often sport an oxford shoe or a boat shoe with a foot ped on warmer days and I reserve sandals for really hot days when I am outside most of the day. Often though, I am wearing boots. I just switch to lighter colors and bootcut jeans or trousers to hide them better. I also go for ankle or low calf height styles so my entire leg is not confined in a boot. But when I try them in the stores, there is always an element of discomfort somehow, I know I won't be able to walk long distances in them, or stand for long periods. And they seem to get better every year. Decent, comfortable shoes are also a bit difficult to find where I live. Sneakers and Uggs are king and queen. I live in Sydney and I don't actually own a jumper at all. I do have a couple of cardigans. But the main winter item you need in Sydney is coats and jackets because it can be windy and wet, more than truly cold.
