For my first summer in my new location the only things I felt good in were two funky linen tunics & two pairs of silk leggings that I washed at night after wearing. I just didn't know what else to buy or where to look Then I bought a lot of tat that I really should have left in the shops & felt confused & not like myself :) Now I gain inspiration from Japanese & European designers - see below. My biggest mistake was trying to layer in summer like I do in winter - it is just too darn hot for that. Necklaces were a no no too - hot & sweaty. So now I buy a few simple linen or cotton pieces (mainly European linen I confess, it lasts me much longer than other linen) & spend on my shoes & sandals - if they are funky & unusual then the whole outfit doesn't read conservative. I wear cuffs if I feel the need for accessories :) Don't give up. My style tends toward urban warrior rocker so there is a fair amount of crossover. Some of my go places are: Macy's--Not all are created equal and I'll travel farther to one with a good plus department. Nordstrom Rack--I find the mainline store fairly conservative and a lot of my local stores don't even bother with plus sizes so I make do with the Rack H&M--Plus is almost nonexistent in stores, I think there are three total in Southern California, but can have killer stuff...and actual natural fabrics. I have a few pieces recently that are workhorses. Torrid--Yes I know kind of junior-ish but can add the right spice. Also a great place for jeans ASOS Curve--Mail order only but great return policy plus I love the videos of the clothes on actual people. I wear fairly dark colors all year plus the accessories and shoes really make the difference. On a side note I can claim the rocker part for real now since I just played guitar at a local venue as part of ladies rock camp the other day--yay me! Summer dressing is a bear for so many of us.  I have been incredibly impressed and inspired by our Aussie sisters on YLF. They have some really hot summers in OZ, and those women know what to do to look fab in it.  Caro says that her solution is linen dresses. Now you might think "ladies who lunch" when you think linen, but the way our Caro wears it, that is not how it is at all. We are talking unconstructed dresses in modern shapes that could suit any warrior.  Here is another suggestion. The Vince Camuto midi tube skirt is a kind of wonder wardrobe item. I am pretty sure they make it in a size that would work for you. There must always be tea and cake.  It always sounds like a piece of cake but the truth is I am a whole lot of woman.  Plus size 18.  This is very tricky.  I am also 5'2 so the clothing I like is in abundance in the winter.  In the summer not so much.  I like natural fibers but the truth of the matter the clothing that you recommend at places like Macy's, Nordstrom, and some of the larger named stores either have a very small selection or no selection at all.  So I have cobbled together what I can which for me is not good enough.  That is why I buy in multiples if I don't get it now it may never come back.  Or not at a price point that I am comfortable with.  I am a young vibrant woman and want my clothing to reflect as such.  This is a difficult journey.  For all the jokes I make the truth is it is difficult I think that I am Wonderful Full figured Women and I want my clothing to reflect as such.  I have the money to spend I just wonder when there will be the designer to relfect a small portion  of my taste.  I am  loving all the clothing that was pointed to on this thread.  But cannot I walk into a store and try something on.  The truthful answer is no because it is not made in my  size.  I know some people will say why not loose weight if you are not happy.  I am comfortable with who I am even if others are not.  The right clothing will come along with time I am sure but not now and not at this moment so my search continues. Your writing was so colorful! You're very talented. It must be hard not to be able to find clothes that work for you for the warmer months. I know that a lot of the fabbers mention that dressing for warm weather is harder in general than for cold, because you don't have as many layers to play around with, and toppers are sometimes way too hot. Or is it more a kind of Rick Owens/Dune thing with lots of drapy stuff that camouflages in sandstorms (and can serve as an impromptu tent if necessary)? My dress is that for Dark days and long nights.  Of Ancestors who were robed in faux fur and faux leather.  Oh how I long for your warm rays of golden sunlight.  But, despise you because of the same.  I fear that I find myself in a quagmire of the time which is known as  "the time that shall remain nameless" (Not knowing how to dress in warm months :)) Of these things I shall not speak loudly of.  I will just whisper of the true longing that is in my heart.  Of wanting to dress as well as the Ladies on YLF.  Every time I cast my eyes unto an image known as a pic be still my beating heart and I harken to know of how thee put together an outfit that speaks to your true self. Oh, what  shear delight it would be to my heart if I could but find the happiness factor of my spring/summer wardrobe that my  fall/winter wardrobe brings to me.  Tis  naught but a passing whim or an elusive dream only to be imagined.  But mayhap with the Lady Angie and the other Mystical and Magical persons of this wonderful land known as YLF.  I can remove my self from the land of the Hobbits And float on the Great Valinor where the Elf king lives.  With a spring/summer wardrobe that is befitting of the Urban Night Warrior.
