I feel quite similarly to Astrid. In 2003 I went to London for the first time and LOVED what I found at H&M there; I bought a few pieces that were quite well made and lasted me a few years. I was pretty bummed out that we didn't have an H&M store nearby where I lived in the US. When an H&M store finally opened up in Seattle, I was a few years out of college, and I don't know if my quality control bar had become more strict or if the pieces truly are less well made than they were 7-8 years ago. Now I mostly only buy accessories every once in a while at H&M, or try a cheap piece if I'd like to experiment with a trend without committing to it in a more pricey item. It's still fun to wander in and take a look at what's available, though.

H&M can be overwhelming, but it seems to be arranged by styles which I like. I gravitate to the "business" section and often find nice sheath dresses, blazers, tailored shirts. Everything's kind of like garanimals in each section, so all of the colors work together. I'm sure they're not the highest quality, but the work wear I've bought have been great for the price. I've had two sheath dresses for at least two years and they still look almost new. I also like their basics, like colorful spring cardigans, but the quality's lower and they don't last that long.

I don't go in there too frequently anymore. I have a few tees from there, which I think have held up well, considering the price. I also have one button-front blouse from there that's probably 4-5 years old and looks remarkably good. Also, I just put a blazer from there in the Goodwill bag because it's too roomy on me now, but it actually is quite nice quality -- I think I've had that for about 5 years as well.

Lately, though, I don't find much in there that speaks to me.

I find that I'm either hot or cold over what they have each time I go in. I have had days where I loved loads of stuff and then the next 2 or 3 visits I never see anything. I do agree that some of the sizing issues are all over the map. I have to admit I'm just happy that we have them in Ontario now.

I love H&M! Sadly non of our stores in MN have a trend section but the Divided section is usually right up my alley. I've also gotten some great pieces for my office job in their regular section. I find it a lot more on trend and usually better quality than F21 but close to the same price point.

Sizing, however, is all over the place. I'll be interested to see how their online shop does next year.

And i love their music because it's usually the same music i listen to in my car lol.

I'm actually not really a fan. After hearing about it and seeing so many nice items from there on other people online, I was so excited when a store opened in my state that I drove 30 miles to get to it. I bought a vest, but didn't really find anything else I liked.

I've been back a couple more times searching for something specific I've seen on different style blogs, but I've never been able to find things people describe as current, like this cute navy polka dot skirt:

http://www.mixmatchfashion.com.....skirt.html

For me it's just too overwhelming.

I usually walk into H&M and can tell within a minute or two if there is anything in there that might work for me. I generally don't go into the store because of the quality and twee look of most of their clothes - as well as the disorganization, loud music and teen-age girls. (Not that I don't like teenage girls, but its just that I think there is something wrong with this picture, if I am trying on the same things that they are!) I did find a cute cardigan in there last fall - which I really like and wear pretty regularly. I also bought a scarf in there once - but in general I don't really like the store. Also, the sizing is sooooo weird - I never know what size I might wear and that is so annoying!

I'm always in awe of people who find amazing stuff there, but I've yet to find a piece there that really worked for me (except for the hair accessories, they make great and cheap hair clips). The one exception was the dress I bought at a H&M in Amsterdam when I was *gulp* 22. I wore that thing to death. But alas, that really was almost 20 years ago!

Personally, I really dislike the quality of their women's wear: it's all acrylic and disgustingly stretchy synthetic jersey, and tends to pill and lose its shape after two washes... not nice. But, unlike women's wear, their basic men's stuff is decent quality wise, so I tend to buy quite a bit of it for my husband (and for myself too, but I am resolved to kick this questionable fashion habit).
Oh, and I do like H&M accessories: every now and then they offer really fun bling.

I wonder if location makes a difference? My first experience was in DC and I liked the store even though I didn't buy anything. Then we got one here (NC) and I don't like the atmosphere at all. I don't want to stay in there long enough to pick through everything so I don't shop there.

My only H&M purchases have been online thru eBay and both are dresses. One is a 4 and one is an 8 so sizing is definitely off, but I love both dresses.
I did finally walk into an H & M store on a vacation to the DC area 3 years ago and again on a Seattle trip for my 40th. It was anti climactic, but I'm sure I could have found some jewels among the cheapy teen stuff.

When my sons were younger, it was great for them - slim-fitting jeans, which they needed, for example.

For me - well, this week I bought a scarf and a cardigan from H&M - but it took a lot of searching to find them - I often go in and come out with nothing, and like the others say, I do check seams and hems, as the quality can be off.

I like them better for men's clothing, since my hubs is slim, and their cuts fit him well. I have a couple of things by them, but I've never bought anything new, even though I've tried. Their stuff doesn't seem to fit my torso well.

I like H&M in theory and have some things from their that I love. However I rarely shop there because it can be really overwhelming.

They do have some quality issues with their clothes so I always inspect purchases carefully...however I expect that for the discounted prices.

Well I just started shopping at H&M and I totally felt like you the first couple times I walked in the store. Loud music and there's so much stuff it's almost overwhelming. And I have to size up a lot in their clothes because they run small. But I like it because you can find fashionable on-trend clothes for lower cost. Although it does take some digging to find the good stuff because yeah some of their stuff can look cheap. But I've bought a few fitted shirts (cream, coral & cobalt blue), a plaid midi skirt, a grey cardigan, a grey floral blouse, olive shirtdress etc. and they all look nice/expensive. One day I was wearing the cream top & midi skirt and someone told me I looked like I should be in Vogue. And just yesterday I wore this long sleeve ruched cobalt button down shirt and was shopping in Nordstrom and the middle-aged SA said, "Oh, that's a lovely shirt!" I said, "It's from H&M." and she looked a little awkward because I don't think she was expecting that. Hahaha, I love it!

Kafe, I'm with you all the way! I used to dress myself head to toe in H&M in my teens, but now I don't like it all that much anymore. I think the quality suffered a lot in the last years and the prices stayed the same. I don't fit most of the cuts, and I dislike many of the fabrics they use. Their clothing always looks a little cheap to me! Another thing I don't like about them is that you can see it's H&M from a mile away. I really don't want to wear the 'teen H&M uniform' anymore. The only thing I buy at H&M are scarves, the odd cheap umbrella and pajamas.

Kafe, I like H & M because I can often find the on-trend pieces for a lower cost. I have also been able to use H & M to find pieces that will fill a wardrobe gap until I can save up for a better quality version. However, like anythign else in life, H & M may not be everyone's cup of tea.

I went into an H&M the other day and did end up with a sweater I like, but I wasn't all that impressed with the store. Maybe it was the choice of music they were playing. I can't help feeling I'm missing something because so many here like H&M. What is it that you like about the store?
