For me, it's the backside that really makes a difference. If my jeans bag out too much in the seat, I feel totally unflattered by them. For me, that would be the deciding factor. Washing won't make a difference. They'll fit again when you first put them on and loosen up the same again, in my experience.<br />I know some people swear by jeans that don't have spandex, but I've found a lot of jeans with spandex (or lycra or elastine, different names for the same thing) keep their fit nicely and others don't.
